It all went to shit after she had a double foot fault at 4-4 40-30 in the first set.. But then again, she was up 3-1 30-0 in the second and then lost like 16 points in a row. Disgusting loss Daniela  :shout:

Elena :woohoo: :yeah: Her 1st Top 20 win of the year and finally seems at least capable of a few wins.

Big chance for QF's now, Castano will lose to the qualifer, and 2 of them have lost to Lena this year and the other 2 shouldn't be too worrying on grass :)

Why is Hantuchova still ranked so high? Apart from the AO and a very lucky French Open draw, she's done nothing all year :o

Wow, you've got to be the biggest Daniela hater I know. And that's saying a lot since she has a big amount of haters on this board. :wavey: Most of us know you hate her, so stop bagging on her and just leave her alone. If you dislike her so much I don't get why you spend so much effort on insulting her.

Besides the really good backhand she has awesome volleys, hence the reason she is No.5 in the world in doubles and won a Tier I and made the finals of Roland Garros. Her forehand is also good when she's playing well. It's a weapon. She places her serve extremely well and gets a good amount of aces in most of her matches. She has every shot in the book basically: drop shot, slice, etc. She didn't reach No.5 in the world and win Indian Wells for nothing.

Her problems are mental, her movement, and shot selection (inconsistency). She's improved all of them, but they still aren't good enough to help her go back to where she belongs, which is the top 10. She hasn't even come close to the kind of tennis she can produce. Indian Wells 2002 was just an appetizer. Hopefully the main dish will come soon. ;)

with all due respect the tour was much weaker back in 02 - Farina Elia got to her highest ever ranking playing shit tennis! She was playing much better tennis in 04 with a lower ranking!

I have seen daniela a few times live and many times on the tv and have never ever been impressed. Toronto last season against Jidkova :o you couldnt split them and retired through - heat exhaustion, she was fine until Jidkova was coming back at her. The only reason IMO people love her and big her up is because of the way she looks. If it was a Kuznetsova type look playing like Daniela no one would create like you lot do. She is simply an average player - yes her volley are amazing but how often do the girls volley anymore??? - I cant ever see her beating a top 10 player again - look at how she struggled against a poor Serena in Aus.

The reason you feel I insult her because every time she loses it comes as a huge shock to the world - Elena L has got just as far as Daniela at Wimbledon before and is a great player and in a slump like Dani! Daniela isnt all that!

No one acts like Daniela is No.1 in the world. It almost seems like you are jealous of her. :tape:

Sure, the tennis Daniela has played this year is average, but she has her moments. How did she struggle vs. Serena? It's still Serena, people don't get that. She won the first set easily and then came back from a break down in the 2nd. It's not like she won 7-6 in the third.

Daniela's game is very erratic and risky. She likes to go for big shots which result in a lot of errors. But she is still a top 20 player even when she is playing like this. So that comment saying she wasn't a top 20 player anymore was dumb. ;) When she keeps the ball in the court and gives herself margin for error, she's top 15 easily. Also, mentally she can be weak, but she's working on things. If things go her way she will be back in the top 10.

I think a few Daniela fans disagree, almost after evry lose there is a thread not understanding how it has happened.

I completely understand the frustration because she WAS a top 5 player but the game has moved on and she just cant compete with them anymore - just like Ferrero in the mens game really

There is frustration because she gives away matches she should win with tons of errors. When she makes errors she loses to people like Savchuk, etc. Then all of the sudden she keeps the ball in the court and beats Schnyder. When she is this up and down and you get glimses of great form and then bad form, why shouldn't there be frustration? She can compete with them. It's not like she's struggling in 25K's. :o We know why it happens. It's called Daniela makes 60 UE's. Quit acting like there is a thread about how she lost this match and omg, blah blah. The threads in the GM that are about Daniela are either results, or some maniac saying something about her weight.

No weapons? K, if you want to think she has no weapons to hurt them then think that. :tape:

She just beat Dementieva less than a year ago, and Schnyder earlier this year and both of those are weaker top ten players. I'm not saying if she played Henin-Hardenne or Mauresmo today that she'd win. But certainly if she raises her game and plays the tennis that she and her fans know she can play, then she does have chances. It's all up to her. More of it is mental than anything else....

with all due respect it is Patty Schyder :o Im not doubting Daniela's ability over playing on the tour but she is average and lack consistancy, I can she her making a couple of 4th rd at slams with a nice draw and a couple tier 3 title but I think her fans have the bar raised too high!

No, she doesn't have a huge weapon like an inform Serena's serve, yes but she has weapons. Her groundstrokes can be killer when she's on. Some people think she lacks power on her groundstrokes, but if you've ever watched her they don't. She can match almost anyone when it comes to groundstrokes. She was hitting toe-to-toe with Sharapova @ the AO before she had a concentration lapse. It's not like she's Camille Pin and hoping they make an error. :o

Grass is her favorite surface. She always says she loves the grass season and Wimbledon. She's had good results in the past (Wimbledon QF, Eastbourne F, etc.) on it so that's why we tend to expect more on grass, but I guess we shouldn't.

i know this board loves the whole "she lost one match therefore her career is over" mentality but perhaps with a bit of perspective we'd remember that Hantuchova withdrew from a tournament last week and that Likhovtseva, although horrid most of the year, is capable of a very high standard of tennis (especially on grass).

why???

what is in her game that is special???

apart from an above average backhand I dont see much      :confused:When she's playing well, she can hit basically any shot well. Watch some of her matches from '01, '02, and '03 and you'll see. Very talented, however very mentally (and at times physically) frail.

On her day (whenever that is!) she's great. Flat, hard, fast groundies, an excellent serve, good volleys, and as you said, superb BH. She has a good all-round game, she's just soooo inconsistent. Just IMHO.

I saw the last set of this and I thought both of them were playing pretty well - lots of very nice rallies...
