Why is it that Sam Stosur only seems like a decent player when playing in Australia?

Cmon Sam! Grass should suit your game to a tee!!

I know. I was shocked. She has a lot of skills, especially on grass, but she can't seem to translate them to very many wins.

Sam dominated the 1st set tho. She's been playing a lot lately I guess

Whenever I've seen her on TV she's been either spectacularly good or equally spectacularly bad. Guess this was a bad day.

From what I've seen, Sam is bad at leading. She'll fight hard if she's behind in a match, but she doesn't know how to take the lead and keep it.

She's really modest and nice. Rest a bit and get ready for Wimbledon Sam :)

Maybe she'll win a match there for the first time ever.

who did she lose to? after her AO, her year seems to be pretty lackluster, great potential there though

yeah i think even though shes really fit the break from now to wimbel will do her good and keep her fresh the usage of playng in doubs will give her match play and should be able to give her that chance for wimbel, oh well

Potentially, She might reach 3rd at Wimbledon if she plays at her best.

People say bad loss but did anyone see the stats, Sammy's opponant served like 13 aces in the match and was on fire, its all cool though Sammy should do great at Wimbledon as long as she stays away from a big seed in 1st round

Dissapointing loss to say the least. Sam needs more confidence.

Poor Sam her has so much Potential to go far but she will have to put in the work. Like at the moment i'm liking Alicia Molik's chance's at getting a good result hopfuly it might see her back in the top 100

That is very disappointing... but Sam does have the type of game that takes a while to mature... just look at Alicia.

Mind you, there is absolutely no reason why she can't make say, the quarters at Wimbledon if her game can click (barring a very bad draw)

Yeah, you're right... but it's hard not to be negative when you consider the is in the qualifying rounds on Sam's best surface, and you've seen how well she can actually play.

Don't roll your eyes, the thread was about Sam's losses lately in general. Not just this last loss. Yes she did play well.

i cant say im surprised its Stosur after all if she aint in Australia she aint that great but she should be.

Gajdosova is quite a good player and when playing well can beat a couple of players in top 20 so its not as bad a loss as some but still dissapointng from Sam.

I saw the first set and it was like watching an atp match at times - both had great trouble returning serve. Gajdosova especially was serving bombs, which really surprised me as I'd never seen her play before. It seemed she was sending down about 2 aces per game, which was really getting to Stosur. I was also amazed how far inside the baseline Gajdosova stood to receive Stosur's first serve...
