View Full Version : Meanest Quote on Dellacqua

So Disrespectful

"The appearance and performance of Casey Dellacqua against Lindsay Davenport the previous day was the starkest pointer yet to the shambolic state of Australian tennis.

Dellacqua, slow and overweight, is Australia's fourth ranked woman. She is 20 years old with an ambition to make the world's top 10. Someone tell her she's dreaming."

I saw that match against Davenport and Casey really is at Casanova weight, her movement was terrible.

Saying that though, her groundstrokes were quite good.

But unless she loses weight she won't be reaching Top 100, and her results like too many Australians are unimpressive outside of Australia.

i defintiely agree she has to lose weighty nad work on her fitness & movement if she wants to make it in the big time

Sure, she is overweight, but this man clearly shows no regard to the 1000+ players ranked below Dellacqua. Pit any other 150+ ranked opponent against Davenport and the same results would certainly occur.

If Sophie Ferguson was ranked higher than Dellacqua, would Patrick Smith say she was evidence of the "shambolic state of Australian tennis"? I think not. His comments were made purely on the basis of Casey's weight and not her ability as a tennis player.

Soph lost by the same scoreline to Petrova...he could've said something but didn't. Guess you're right.

The Chavette gets no respect.

That said, Bartoli is overweight and is in the top 30; Oprandi is overweight yet totally friggin' rocks.

The problem with Dellacqua isn't just that she's overweight; it's that she sucks.

Well Dellacqua was playing Lindsay, so I don't think he could really base his judgment solely on that.

Too many Australians are unimpressive outside of Australia??

Hard to believe......... Monique Adamczak and Sophie Ferguson are on impressive record in Europe which is outside of Australia! :)

I do remeber the media saying the same thing about Lindsay when she first appeared on tour and she put the work in and look where it got her. I also rember Casey saying she still needs to put in alot work and the match against Lindsay was a good pointer of what she has to do. Its also 15 years on the tour to about two. It just a little bit harsh.

Patrick Smith is well known for his attempts to get publicity through making controversial statements. he's not that wrong though and what he's saying is that it's disturbing that someone so out of shape could be our 4th best player. I know Dellacqau has some ability but you guys are living in a dream land if you think she's ever going to get very far in her current condition.

Patrick Smith is a chauvanist though - he actually said something similar about Myriam a few years ago to write off the women's game.

Harsh but treu, if you want to get anywhere in life not just tennis you have to work hard and give 110% not 75% like i feel a lot of the Australian players do when it comes to determination and wanting it and training.

Casey has loads of talent and will be top 100 one day. She looked in ok shape in Japan a few months ago.

What was it they used to call Lindsay - "Dump Truck"?

Well I think we need to come up with a new nickname....

18-Wheeler?
Michelin Woman?
Mrs Blobby?
Lard-Ass McFat?

If someone is playing Davenport and it is obvious that Davenport's opponent is slow, then she must really be slow! Davenport is really slow too.

Yes, she does have an exotic, appealing name. Too bad about the rest.
