Rankings help please. Why has early Birmingham defeat not harmed Miss Sharapova?

Could one of the computer rankings "experts" out there explain the new rankings?

Despite losing in the semis at Birmingham which she won last year Miss Sharapova has gone further ahead of Petrova at #5 and is only 8 points behind J2H at #3.

This means she will now avoid the prospect of having to face one of the top 4 seeds in the Wimby quarters.

Because the Calendar is a week later this year

Edgbaston Points fell off the week before last

Last week Edgbaston went on and Eastbourne fell off
