Don't know whether she's injured or not.

Hope she plays Wimbledon though or there'll be a serious drop off of points.

No one seems to know anything, not even the fansite.

If anyone has any info about this at all, please post it here.

She's probably too afraid to handle the pressure.

I was so looking foreward to her grass season and seeing if she could really do damage again serving and volleying and really slicing and dicing and attacking net.

The grass court season is all the poorer without Roberta. She was fabulous at Eastbourne last year. Something must be wrong as Roberta would be on the grass at Edgbaston this week. Whatever is up,lets hope whatever is wrong gets sorted quickly.

very strange. her game is so effective on grass. only the best players on tour know who to handle the way she attacks the net with such well placed serves and reliable volleys.

The person who runs her website posted a news item saying he/she was going to ask Roberta why she isn't playing any tournaments before Wimbledon.

I guess injury is the most likely explanation.

She's probably too afraid to handle the pressure.

There have been a few instances on the past weeks of players withdrawing from tournaments because they didn't fancy their chances against their first round opponents, but chickening out from tournaments even before the draws are out would be a first.

Vinci will now drop 20+ places on the ranking because she didn't defend any of her points from last year's Eastbourne.

So no, I don't think so.

We have three likely explanations:

I) serious injury
II) retreating back into doubles full time with a token singles schedule (Vinci's season has been subpar so far, and the claycourt season in particular was an almost unmitigated disaster, so there's a chance that convinced her to stake everything in doubles)
III) [...] - let's hope not. Let's just hope not.
