View Full Version : Why no one talks about ALG?

She just made her first QF of a grand slam. She has one of the best serves in business. She hits cool groundies and even volleys once in a while. She doesn't grunt. And she is super cute.

Anna-Lena deserves more attentions.

I guess ALG doesn't have the $$$ of IMG behind her, shoving her in our faces all the time! :p

If she keeps improving, she'll earn her way into our affections over time, the way Elena Dementieva did: slowly and naturally. :hearts:

No, I agree.

I think she needs to be a little more consistent. She seems to win matches against top fifteen players and then lose to someone ranked 80th another week. I don't have her list of results, but that's my impression.

I've not seen her play properly, I've only heard about her. I must say that she looks to be an impressive athlete and considering this time three years ago, or even two years ago, she'd barely started, she's made rapid progress.

I certainly see her establishing herself in the top ten if she can avoid injuries. She has the height, the serve, the athleticism and the groundstrokes.

Because she's not going to amount to anything. She is way too inconsistent too survive week in and week out. Not to mention, she plays such brainless tennis: it's either hit the ball as hard as she can, or lob it. No middle ground.

yes when i was to rg anybody knows her and she was in quarter!

but medias were on vaidisova :-) i saw during practices! no photographers agencies for anna lena! only nouf with his camera! lol

because she is the type that is in other peoples shadows.she has nothing really flashy, she's ok looking, and does ok in tennis.if she wants to be known she should try and get some of this stuff,i also find her very inconsistent.

For the same reasons no one talks about Kuznetzova for example. They lack charisma!

She hasn't had that one huge win that usually puts players into the mainstream.

she is what i call a "filler", just taking up space until injured players get back to the top

if she gets more consistent with her groundies and waits a bit longer to finish the point then she could be quite competitive with the current crop of top players.

To me at least, she hasn't demonstrated a top 10 level of tennis. She's had a couple of top ten wins, but I don't see her winning those matches consistently. Although she reached the quarters of the French Open and that is to be commended, she had a kind draw that allowed her to get there without beating a top 15 player.

The main issue I see right now is that she needs to clean up her erratic play/erratic results. Rather than do that, her current coach has her playing every friggin week to compensate for this. She'll have played 16 tournaments (singles and doubles in just about every one) by the time Wimbledon ends, not to mention Fed Cup. When could she possibly be working on her game when she's always playing tournaments?

There's no sure way to tell whether she can crack the top 10 in her career, but she'll have a much much better chance at it if she gets rid of Rafael. She might crack the #10 spot simply by playing 30+ tournaments a year, but she won't get higher than that without a change. It's up to her right now. She's making an excellent living being at the top tier of both singles and doubles, but does she want more?

I've never seen a professional player miss by as much as ALG misses when she misses. Not even Kournikova in her down days missed by that much. Of course, ALG can hit some good shots, but I just don't get the feeling she's going to be a fixture in the top 30, let alone the top ten.

i agree that she needs to get rid of the coach, i hear he is kinda psycho! i think shaughnessy got rid of him and she has had some impressive reults this year!

I was quite impressed by her match against justine at RG.
i don't really like her "game style" but that doesn't change the fact that she can beome a very good player.

I agree it probably has to do with the fact that she never beat a "really big name"...

But her serve is good, she moves extremely well for such a tall player, she can definetly volley. if she gets more consistency she can definetly become a top 10er in the future...

She doesn't grunt

Oh she grunts and sometimes quite loud! I really like her. Shes working really hard on her game and if she plays a little more consitent i can see her beating some more Top Players.

Anna Lena needs time and another coach.

Her Problem is, that she's not interested in beauty-things and that girlie Stuff.
She has to be #1 if she really wants to be a "star".

And i think that, if she could reduce her silly errors and play a little more intelligent, she could really be a Tennisstar. But there are so many with that "talent"...we'll see.

She lost about 20 pounds of weight and the result is winner Acapulco, Semis Charleston and Quarters RG.

Now we will see, how she will do in Wimbledon. She'S definitely faster than one year ago and grass should be the best supporting underground for her big Serve and her shots.

:) jep Nouf was the one and only fan of her in RG! ;)
And I'm very thankful for your pictures nouf :worship:

well I think Anna is a great player and she has a great play. Justine had very much porblems with her. And I think it was her hardest Match in RG against Anna- Lena.
Anna has got very great groundstrokes, a very well service and a good volley.
If she becomes more constant, she will reach the top 10 and more easily!
I believe in her :)

Even in Germany foreign tennisgirls makes more headlines than Anna-Lena. She´s a nice, friendly next door girl. No bad press (except the worries about her trainer), no big mouth, no spectacular wins, no sexy fotoshootings...she is just there and plays her tennis. Sometimes successful, sometimes not.

well tennis isn't very popular in germany anymore. Sad but true. Now it's only soccer. I hate soccer.
And Anna- Lena is the only bright light in the dark here in germany!

I like ALG, she has cute face, large talents imo, and my thought is that if she has a better outfit (sth like the Marias), she would definitely draw more attention :tape:

I "hate" ALGs outfit, and she wears it since the AO  , time for a nice dress in Wimbledon :p
I like the outfit she had at Fedcup

She will make her way and she'll get more attention, I'm sure :) ALG has so much potential and can improve her game much
She's a fighter and I love that

Because she's not from Eastern Europe, over 6 ft and a Bollettieri girl (well not to my knowledge) which at the moment is the media's criteria for a tennis "babe".

Boring game?

Anna Lenas shots, BH an FH are very impressive.
On the other side she's a ver good netplayer.

Her game is very variable and surely not boring.

I tend to agree except she seems so inconsistent. You need to be more consistent in order to be a top tenner. Well then again Schnyder has been there despite having a very poor season this year.
