wow that's great that she wants to work her way up! Go Jelena :hearts: I really hope she plays well!

This is clay right? She should play hard or grass

I don't understand the scheduling. It's great that she wants to start small, but stay off of the clay. There are other challenger events on hardcourts, where I feel she has a much better chance of winning more matches.

Maybe she just likes Italy. :)

Anyway, the point is she desperately needs MATCHES. ANY matches will do right now. She's got to get back in the swing of working points, recovering her old mental toughness, keeping her errors down -- clay is a good starting point, I think.

I think it's great she wants to play qualies. She needs to, and she knows it. Smart kid. :hearts:

Jelena has a better record on clay than hard. It's true and I think she prefers clay regardless of her record. Besides she is training in Croatia so she needs to play tournaments close to her base, and there aren't many challengers on hard in the region

There will be no use for that, cause Jelena has just withdrawn from Fontanafredda... :(

Yep! She's in withdrawals list here: http://www.tenniseurope.org/PDF/Professional/womens/2006/Apr-Jun06/Fontanafredd/acc.pdf

however there is no date and no reason...

update: according to this site: http://www.itftennis.com/womens/tournaments/tournamentacceptanceList.asp?tournament=1100013629&event=&order=Position
she withdrew today.

Probably has to do alot with money and convenience...I doubt there is anywhere else where so many challenger tournaments are so close together.

I suspect she plans on getting a WC for wimbledon qualies. She was after the match practice in Gorizia and she got it, now she probably heads to the grass since Wimbledon qualifying takes place next week. Could be wrong though since Jelena is completely unpredictable at times

Maybe she feels that after this week there are some things that she needs to improve on before the larger 50K event in 2 weeks time?

Actually Jelena looks thinner than she has in a long time. Definitely smaller than she was during the AO Summer Season and most of 2005.

WIMBLEDON, England (AP) -- Mark Philippoussis, the 2003 Wimbledon runner-up, was one of eight men who received wild-card invitations Friday to play in the grass-court Grand Slam tournament.

Philippoussis has been plagued by injuries and he's currently ranked 176th.

Others getting wild cards were Romania's Andrei Pavel and six British men: Jamie Baker, Richard Bloomfield, Alex Bogdanovic, Jamie Delgado, Martin Lee, and Alan Mackin.

Women's wild cards went to: Australia's Alicia Molik, Belarus' Victoria Azarenka, Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska and five British players: Sarah Borwell, Naomi Cavaday, Anne Keothavong, Katie O'Brien and Melanie South.

Jelena Dokic, a semifinalist at Wimbledon in 2000, was given a wild-card entry into the women's qualifying event.

Wimbledon begins June 26.
