I like that she's playing with Ana. They've had some really good results this year. Maria & Gisela just can't seem to recapture the magic they had last year as a team. Ana & Maria are a good team. I think they can do well

Poor Maria she has gotten another tough draw. her first round will be tough asagoe has done well @ Wimbledon in the past and likes the grass with her continental grip and flat skiddy shots, maria will have to play well to win. plus Anna Lena again in round 3 and you would suspect with her power it will even tougher for Maria to beat her on grass. What's wrong? I can't remember that eurosport ever showed Wimbledon. They only show the other three GS.

They never broadcast Wimbledon because of the same thing that prevents them from broadcasting the World Cup, Formula 1, etc. National copyrights.

It's news to me. I never knew Eurosport never broadcasted Wimbledon. It's a shame really, you guys get to watch almost every major tennis tournament but Wimbledon.

Strangest thing i think is that she served 66% 1st serve in, but only won 46% of that points... Here serve isn't that weak is it...

Average 1st Serve Speed: 102 mph

That while Asagoe did only 99 mph as fastest and 91 mph as average and she won 71 % ! of here 1st serve....

Maria won 52 % on here 2nd serve.. Thats more than on here 1st, very strange...

I feel sorry for her because it's one of the best tournament and she lost in first round :sad: I hope for her that she can go far with Ana in doubles. Does anybody know if she is playing mixed doubles?

It is quite clear to me that Maria doesn't like to play on grass. She never seems to do well on grass. It is always an early exit. The loss doesn't surprise me a bit. I actually was expecting it. I love Maria and will support her until the end, but right now she just can't seem to get anything going on this surface. Most of the problem is mental. It has to be. She has had success on every surface but grass. Sometimes I think it might be better for her to skip the short grass court season and get ready for the hard court season, a surface she likes much better. Right now, that's the good news. Hopefully, the hard court season will get Maria going on the right track again. She definately could use some wins right now

I'm not sure but I think Maria has had pretty decent junior results on grass. Of course juniors and seniors are very different but it puzzles me as to why she would struggle, be it mentally or otherwise, on grass at senior level.

No Masha on the schedule today (Thursday) but doubles partner Ana is playing second round singles as the last match on Court 18. This is the first time I can recall at a GS, Masha is NOT playing mixed doubles. Sad that the very nice pairing of Leander Paes with Masha in Paris is not carried forward to London. Leander is playing mixed with Sam S of Australia.

Like King Aaron, I cannot understand the logic as to why Masha's "game" is not suited to grass. One would think the more diverse shotmaking in her game would make her more able to adapt to any surface. At the end of the day maybe the one person who goes out on the court with the racquet in her hand needs to take responsibility for her results. Seems to me Masha is just playing poorly right now. And since she does not communicate with her fans we likely will never know why.

Maria's game is suited to almost every surface, especially grass, and everybody knows this. But she has been struggling so much lately one can't help but wonder what the problem is. Personally I think it's her playing poorly + not having someone of substantial influence and knowledge in the game to guide her. If there's anyone to be blamed, it would be her and her camp/people.
