Ok...

Henin-Hardenne- I used to really dislike Justine but this year I've become a bit of a fan, liking her more every time I see her play.
Schiavone- Just love Frans attitute on court, really fun to watch.
Pennetta- She's smokin hot...
Mirza- Like her aggressive game, great FH.
Ivanovic- She's really beautiful and cleanest ball-striker on tour IMO.
Stosur- Loads of talent, just wish she would put it all together.
Mauresmo- Always had a soft spot for Momo.
Groenefeld- Great BH

ATP- Federer, Blake, Agassi, JCF, Nalbandian, Kiefer.

Maria is the only one I'm really interested in talking about and definitely the only player I feel emotionally attached to.

Mary Pierce was my first ever favourite and she is right up there with Masha and my all time sentimental fav. I will always love her. Im also a huge fave of Maria K, Im a big fan of the Williams sisters in particular Venus. New players im keen on include Peer and Vinci and im also a fan of Safina and Kuznetsova and i have gained a new appreciation and liking of Hingis.

In the ATP i have been a huge fan of Roger since 2001 and im also a big fan of Andy

my first favorite player was John McEnroe. His epic 1980 final with Borg was not only his finest display of tennis, it was also heartbreaking because he lost. Even though John would be remembered more for being SuperBrat, he still knows tennis, perhaps better than anyone alive.

Then Boris Becker, then Pete Sampras. Even when Pete was beating up everybody, I was rooting for him. He didn't quite have the same following as Andre, so it was an easy choice. (I also loathed Agassi during his dyed-hair, denims and pink outfits days, but now, he's the game's statesman. What a difference a career comeback and a French Open title make :) )

After Sampras, I don't think I still had favorites, although I've come to respect and admire the contemporaries of my favorites: Bjorn Borg, of course, and Connors and Lendl, Wilander, Edberg, Courier, Agassi, Rafter.

Current players, certainly, Roger Federer. Watching Lleyton struggle now makes me root for him a bit, certainly I root for Hewitt whenever he's facing Roddick and Nadal.

Among the women, that was easy, Martina Navratilova, because she was an outsider, played/plays serve and volley and was left-handed. When Graf came along, I hated her first, then as the years went on and Seles emerged to dominate Graf on every GS except Wimbledon, I gradually warmed up to Graf. (My apologies to Dr. Andrewbroad, but I never could get myself to root for Seles.) I was still rooting for her in '99, when she faced Hingis and Davenport in two successive GS finals (French and Wimbledon). I was so certain she would beat Davenport, it was sad to see her lose in straight sets. When she retired after that and never looked back, I was completely sold on Graf.

Of course, Chris Evert, Arantxa Sanchez and Gaby Sabatini all have a place in my, well, whatever it is.

After Graf, I didn't really have any favorites among the women, at least until 2001. That was when Justine Henin burst into the scene, making the Wimbledon final. She remains one of the players whose side I always pick, even when she's the "overdog."

Then in 2002, I saw both Daniela Hantuchova (Aussie Open doubles) and Maria Sharapova (Aussie Open juniors) for the first time. But of course, with these two beauties, it was something other than tennis that I liked (and I've never lied about that). With my favorites basically gone, and JHH hitting the sophomore wall, I was ready to settle for "beauty". Of course, JHH would rebound in 2003.

I could have written down almost everything you did  although Iīm no fan on Peer, Vinci and Safina (havenīt seen enough of them). But I really like Roger and Maria S! They are the only ones I always find myself rooting for and the only ones who I care finding out about outside of tennis. Pierce was also my first ever favourite but is now relegated to #3 on my list, sorry Mary
I also like the Williamses, Maria K, Sveta and Justine although it perhaps is an exaggeration to say Iīm a fan.

I've realized that I'm fiercely loyal to my ultimate faves - Maria and Marat - in the sense that I nervously always cheer for them, pray they win, would never cheer against them regardless of who they play, and so far have never supported anyone who poses a threat to them and probably never will (especially in the case of Maria against those players of her generation)...

The other ones I support and am a fan of are in my signature and that's it basically - Elena D. and Mary Pierce. Martina Hingis though is a player I find too impressive to ignore. But as I said, even if I like them, if they play Maria, I would 100% root for Maria :)...I also find myself cheering for Kim and Nastya when they aren't playing those I've already mentioned except maybe for Martina. I'm also amazed by how Justine plays. But they aren't faves though. On the men's side, it's just Marat I adore. :D

It's also hard to blame a player who has weapons for resorting to the use of those weapons.

It's like boxing (don't laugh, tennis has been described in various ways as the closest thing that two athletes can get to combat without actually touching each other). Here you have Joe Louis, who was a competent, sound boxer who also happened to have KO power with either hand. If you were Louis, how would you approach each fight? Sure, a 15-round chess match with an opponent would be nice, for the fans, for the writers, even for your reputation. You get labeled as a master, a wizard. But then, the longer the fight goes, the more accumulated damage you sustain. So, having two perfectly good fists, you just knock the opponent out. Makes sense to me. Your health goes a long way the shorter you stay in the ring.

I suppose the same goes through the minds of tennis players.

And the good ones adapt. They mix up. Even today's acknowledged "craftsmen" of the game, the Fabrice Santoros and Sebastian Grosjeans, end the point quickly if the opportunity presents itself.

The truly great ones have both power and finesse.

Power tennis is here to stay. We cannot stop its march. We are like, 20 years too late (or 30 if you begin the count with Roscoe Tanner). Power tennis is not bad, but Martian Jeza makes a good point that it is not, and should not, be the only tennis we have to watch. Variety is good. Guile is good. Deception is good. And nothing takes the collective breath and applause of the fans better than a well disguised drop shot, especially if it's followed by a great scrambling retrieval by the opponent, followed by a crisp putaway volley or passing shot. Or maybe an even longer rally.

As for how this affects Masha, well, am I the only one who fears (puts on fireproof suit) Maria S will never ever be known for guile? She has the instinct for combat, which is a good and wonderful thing, but she also fights with a broadsword. And the only two tennis schools she's been to (Bolliterri and Langsdorp) teach broadsword mostly. She needs to learn the rapier and the dagger.

It's one of the reasons I can't warm up to Amelie. As much as I want to sympathize with her when she loses/chokes in big tournaments, I can't ignore the fact that she's playing frail looking girls while she looks like a man.

Well, all the ones listed in my signature.

After Maria comes Vera Zvonareva, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Maria Kirilenko.

As some of you may know, I used to prefer Daniela Hantuchova over all of those (including Masha). But she just became frustratingly inconsistent and I turned against her (bad, I know). Now, I'm pretty much neutral with regards to Daniela, although when I look for results she's one of the first I always look out for. Still haven't got out of that routine.

In the ATP I tend to cheer on Andy Murray and any of the Brits that are in action.

i'm am UNFORTUNATELY =P a fan of big-babe tennis.

Maria is like UP THERE for me.

followed by Nicole Vaidisova and Lindsay Davernport.

Venus' power and defence game thrills me. and i'm slowly very slowly starting to warm up to Ana Ivanovic.

the ONLY finesse player i enjoy watching is ... ahem ... Anastasia Myskina. she's a great counter-puncher, and also she hits the ball pretty hard for her size (or lack of it). hahaha my female friends have always been astonished at how skinny she is. but she plays great.

personality-wise it's Tatiana Golovin :)

in the men's game. ALMOST the same criterias for me.

Andy Roddick, Mario Ancic, Marat Safin. perhaps the only exception will be Andy Murray. but i'm not THAT big a fan anyway.

My mom saw Amelie playing on tv the other day and said "Who's he?" :o

lol... the same happened to me, but with my dad. I said, "SHE is Amelie Mauresmo."

I only have TWO TOP FAVES - Maria Sharapova then Tatiana Golovin.

I try not to have a lot of favorites because I'd be confused who I'd be rooting for when they play against each other - like that Miami semi this year between Maria and Tati.
