ELLIOTT BOWS OUT WITH A FINALE NOD TO TAYLOR

ELLIOTT Yamin - late of "American Idol" - has a favorite for the finale: Taylor Hicks.

"We bonded over everything, man," Yamin said about the grey-haired 29-year-old from Alabama who yesterday emerged as the odds-on favorite to win the competition.

"That's my homeboy. We've gotten quite close and built a relationship that's going to last forever," Yamin told reporters. "It's a great feeling."

On the morning after his crushing elimination from the show, Yamin says he had time to think about the razor-thin voting margin that had cost him a shot at the finals next week.

When all was said and done, it turns out that he lost by only 100,000 votes or so - out of a record 50 million votes cast this week.

But Yamin says he was unfazed by how close he came to continuing on "Idol" - because he had a feeling going into Wednesday night's show that his number was up.

"I just knew, I just had that intuition, I knew my name was going to be attached to the bottom number," he said. "I was prepared for it, so it was easy to take in and grasp. It was a lot easier to make peace with that."

One person who was clearly upset with Yamin's elimination was "Idol" judge Paula Abdul, who was in tears when show host Ryan Seacrest delivered the bad news.

Yamin said he and Abdul shared "a bond."

"I just think she loves my voice and enjoys my singing and I think she likes me as a person," he said. "The feeling is mutual. She's just a sweetheart, such a joy to be around and we had some good talks after the show.

"She's got a big heart, like I do, and I think that's why she identifies with me and can relate," he said. "We're both Jewish, too, so . . . you know how us Jews have a bond at birth.

"I don't know if that has something to do with it."

Hicks and Katharine McPhee will square off one last time on Tuesday's sing-off show, setting the stage for Wednesday's live finale - two nights of TV that are stacking up to be the most-watched TV events of the year outside of the Super Bowl.

Abdul is Jewish?

A Jewish Cuban? that is interesting, as most Cubans are either Christian or Voodoo

Both her parents are Jews. Her father is Sephardic and her mother is Ashkenazi. And she was born in California... I don't know where you got Cuba from.

Paula isn't Cuban. She's Syrian and something else that is Middle Eastern. here's what I found online...

Her father (Harry Abdul) is of Sephardic Jewish background from Syria. Her mother is also Jewish and was born in Canada
