View Full Version : Does anyone here plan on being famous?

It has always been a dream of mine to be famous, ever since I knew what famous was (probably around the age of 3).. I was always very different growing up, at the age of 4.. while most kids were watching Barney & Sesame Street, I was enjoying shows like I Love Lucy & I Dream of Genie. During my elementary school years (2nd grade-5th grade), I would perform songs to my class, and the teachers always allowed me to! I would sing Shania Twain, Mariah Carey, & Alanis Morissette, who were my favorites at the age of 9. I was always hanging out with teenagers at that age because I really fit in with them, it wasn't like I tagged along and was an annoyance, all the teenagers loved me.

It has always been etched in my mind that the only type of living there is to make is in entertainment.. until maybe 3 years ago, my first year of high school.. we were discussing what we wanted to be in the future, and the students were naming things like "lawyer", "nurse", "travel agent", and I was just really shocked. I thought everyone wanted to be famous.

But the whole point of this is that I just began working on my first script, the plot being about a boy who lives with his crazy bipolar, religious-obsessed mom and has always had dreams of being famous, and just how obsessed with entertainment & glamour he is, and how he has to deal with people in his small, hick city full of nothing that he likes. (WAAAAAAAAAAH-MAAAAAAAAHHHHT) It's going to be a very funny, joyful, & most of all, inspiring movie. I already have the plot outlined, all I really need to do is fill in the dialogue. But I have all this summer to finish it! So it's just really great, I feel so inspired to complete it. After this script, I will be working on a creepy, dramatic horror version of Hansel & Gretel..

I really want to start my own fashion line for men, since all the clothes for men these days are SO boring and plain. The only cool brands I know of are Ben Sherman & Modern Amusement. I also want to produce a dance album with nothing but the type of songs that come out every few years that you really can't ever stop listening to because they're so catchy & great (like Crazy In Love & Can't Get You Out Of My Head), and also open a night club, "Neon Nights" which I already have everything planned out for. It's going to be very bright & fantasy-like.

It's just that, growing up.. I was always kind of left out & picked on for being different. And in my mind, I always told myself.. "One day I'll be famous, and I'll look back to those moments & laugh, because I'm going to be something and they're going to be normal, boring people with everyday jobs" and basically, if I don't become famous, they win. So that's driven me too. I've just always felt that I had a purpose for being here, and I can't just live a normal life.. it'd be impossible for me. I'd rather die.

Sorry for having all of these random threads about my personal life & dreams all the time, but I just have to let it out sometime. Does anyone here have dreams to be famous by being an actor, model, singer, fashion designer, etc.?

good luck with your try.

Offcourse I want to be famous, but I think it's quite difficult and you have to be lucky.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I know people in the business.. my cousin is friends with Kevin Smith's best friend who seemed interested in reading scripts from me, and he always asks my cousin "when is he going to let me read some of his stuff?", but I was always so lazy.. but it hit me the other day, I have to get to work or I'll just procrastinate my whole life.

Nope, I think you must become stage manager or something. Or write a role for your self ;)

I played in a band that had a "fan base" of sorts but we weren't by any means famous. It was a West-coast Seattle thing though, so we mostly stayed in the western half of the country.

I'm also going to direct the movies if I can.. it's going to be a certain style. I don't want American Pie, Harold & Kumar, Not Another Teen Movie type humor, I want it to be more mature & focused on dialogue and human emotions instead of funny situations & sex. Although there will be that in my movie, but promoted in a different fashion.

Thats a good choice already, but it's also a difficult move. Cause you know you will have more serious people watching your movies, but also a lot of people just want to have a good laugh. But that's always a problem, choosing your audience.

well, it'll be hard for you to become famous, because judging from your posts on this board, you haven't got much in the way of talent or brains. That doesn't mean you can't become famous, but it makes it tougher. Are you female and really good-looking by any chance? That'll help.

not as boring as your scripts are probably going to be (if you ever even finish one). But there are lots of no-talent script writers floating around out there, so don't get discouraged.

Well, anyway good luck with becoming a "famous" script writer. But even if you make a million $$$ you're unlikely to become famous through your writing. Unless you get into directing your own stuff. I've written a screen play, I even have a writing partner but I'm not expecting to get famous from it. We've been working on one particular SP since 2001... It's still not perfect and it doesn't help that I'm a lazy arse. We have some contacts... it is all about who you know, not just talent. My advice is that if you love writing and are interested in the business then go for it but to enter into it for anything other than the love of it is sheer idiocy... cause you're more than likely going to bust a gut for nothing  And if your SP does go anywhere the director will hijack it and take all the praise and nobody will give a shit who you are and that you spent months, maybe years perfecting your script.

Well, I don't really want to become famous, but I would like to not have a "normal" job. I'd like to be a musician that makes enough money to keep on making music. I could also see myself writting scripts. I have a TV pilot written, and I gave it to my friend and he showed it to his family and they thought it was good. I don't think it was that good, but it would be interesting to see it see some light.

I couldn't see myself doing anything else but one of those two things and if not I'll probably work some terrible job for the rest of my life and watch tennis as much as I can. I hope that doesn't happen.

i don't know if i want to be "celebrity famous," but i want to be a hotshot on wall street. i want anyone who's into business to know my name, sorta like a lesser version of bill gates or donald trump (a way lesser version, in fact :o :o ). but yeah...i don't think i'd stop until i'm really successful. it's always been my goal.

It appears that you just want to be famous and don't mind what it is that your famous for. I'm not sure you'll feel fulfilled that way - you should concentrate on doing something you love so that you become happy and contented within yourself so that if you do become famous you're better epuipped to handle everything that comes with it and you will be able to cope when that fame disappears.

That's good you have futuristic vision. Everything that's happened in my career I was able to visualize. In college I started interning at a radio station and it was all really clear to me what I needed to do. I couldn't wait to graduate and just get out there and grind. A lot of wannabe jocks would sit around and talk industry and stuff but I didn't have time for that because you can't hustle being stuck at home. If anybody really wants fame you have to put yourself out there! It won't come to you.

Wendy, I love your avatar!

And I would love to be famous. I think it's a very peculiar and abnormal life to have, and I am so curious what it's like to live with fame. Plus, I just think the "typical" person's life of 9 to 5 jobs, popping kids, and going to the local crappy of crappiest bars are not for me. Me and my partner in crime Tina, I don't think we'll settle until we have a fabulous life because even as much as we go out now and try and socialize with everyone in the city, it is not good enough for us.
