Inspired by the thread about American/British English, I was wondering what is everybodies favourite/least favourite British accents? (Hopefully I will work out how to put a poll on....,) Also what is your accent like?

I would love to include other dialects but with America I can only tell the difference between North and South, and Australians just sound Australian to me  Feel free to add though.......,

My favourites would be Edinburgh & Geordie because they're so sexy on a woman!

My least favourite would be Essex, because it just sounds awful, very unsexy, so common, and people often mistake mine for it (which I take great offence to).

My accent is of south east England slightly posh, slightly cockney, with a North Welsh twang.

Really sorry to lump together North Wales/Liverpudlian but to the untrained ear they're fairly similar, and there's just not enough options! I also had to leave off Brummy, West country, Leeds, and Sheffield! :o

Sorry!

Without wanting to offend the people that come from this city (cos I do know quite a few people from it and they're all lovely! :) ) I voted 'Other' cos I simply can't stand the Brummie accent, as nice as the people I know from Birmingham are, their accent is really off-putting to me and just infuriates me for some unknown reason...;) Other accents I'm not keen on are the really thick Scouse accent and Glaswegian accent (simply cos I have difficulty understanding them! ;) ) and also not at all keen on the Geordie accent. :tape: ;)

I personally have a South-Eastern 'Home Counties' accent, some say it's posh but I don't consider it to be overly-posh. I also love the really posh sounding 'cut-glass' English accents you can get :D

Glaswegian is quite cute. The worst has to be North Wales :o

damn, :o I misread the thread title and voted for my favourite accent by mistake in the poll :erm: My least favourite is definitely the Welsh accent, it is just horrible. I like London accents, not the real strong cockney ones but West London peeps have nice accents in particular.

Liverpudlian and North Wales are not similar at all. i think your just mixing them up cos of the welsh language. There is actually 2 north wales accent.

One is the very strong accent spoken in the Angelsey/Caernarfon area which is just people who can speak welsh speaking english. The other accent is north east wales where i'm from which sounds more like the Manc accent than the liverpool one.

I vote for Essex as sometimes its just impossible to understand same goes with the strong liverpool one.

I like South walian accent and the posh southern england.

Been to the UK once. Around the Kent-region. No idea what kind of accent they got going over there, but it wasn't hard to follow. Other than that, I have no clue what all the accents are. So I really can't tell the difference.

Out of the poll, it would be Mancunian, but I dislike the Brummie one more so I voted 'Other'. :p

Liverpudlian and North Wales are not similar at all. i think your just mixing them up cos of the welsh language.

Having lived in Bangor for 4 years I don't find them similar at all, however when people who've not been here before come up, they often say "they sound like scousers!" this is why I put them together - no offence intended!

Up here the accents are so different from place to place :o I could have made a poll for just north wales! I mean Bangor, Caernarfon, Buckley, Beaumaris and Old Colwyn all have very distinctive accents, and they're just the one's i can recognise!

I find most of the Northern accents really difficult to understand, and am not keen on any of them.
Personally, I have a southern english accent - quite posh, but normal sounding not the "yah, yah dahling" over exaggerated posh.

I'm from the States, and recently spent a week near Newcastle ,working there. (Newcastle is in North East England, near Scotland, and on the North Sea.)

I had a VERY difficult time understanding people and frequently had to ask people to repeat themselves and/or say it again more slowly. SO FUNNY as an English-speaking person in an English-speaking country   .

Worst: toss up between Birmingham and London/Essex

Best: Yorks (Barnsley! :worship: ), Lancs (Burnley! :hearts: ), Welsh, West Country (Vicky Pollard  )

Comedy value only: Geordie, Scouse, Scottish

Well I love my norn iron accent :haha:

As do I! Although hearing other N.Irish people on tv makes me want to cringe. Like that Nadine doll out of Girls Aloud - why, oh WHY do they make her spokesperson for the group when her accent is awful!

Rant over ;) I used to hate Scouse accents but living in Liverpool, I can understand them now and they aren't that bad. I love all the Northern accents. My least fave are those 'RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR' posh English accents but even they have a charm about them ;)

I love Welsh accents!

I find it funny though that Americans seem to believe English people have one accent(the posh one) which is probably the rarest!

The fake glasgow accent. There are loads of people in livingston want to talk like they're from glasgow when they're not. They just sound like they've got some kind of speech impedement. I find highland accents from up north annoying like aberdeen ones or people from places like orkney and lewis. Manchester accents are weird too

Possibly the most gorgeous welshman ever?? Guy on Channel 4?? MMmm gwych ;) :hearts:

Smiler, I didn't know you lived in Bangor. Ah good old Bangor;) ...I know it well from my Aberystwyth living days.

South Wales has about 834698769528 different accents though. My Cardiff accent is completely different again. Obviously that's the best ;)

But I looooove all the different regional accents in the UK! Norn Ireland especially, phwooooar Katie :p ;) And posh English accents with a twist of South African....

I don't like (sorry, no offence to anyone) Brummie though. My mum had that accent but not anymore now we've Welshified her ;) Not that keen on Liverpudlian either.
