Please come back Serena, Jennifer, Lindsay, Venus, tennis is so boring without you ladies battling it out. I remember the glory days from 2000-2003, with like 19 consecutive grand slams. We need you, who wants to see a boring russian, or belgium final??? Big snooze fest! I miss getting up and all nervous and excited waiting on Serena to battle it out with Jennifer and Lindsay and Venus taking it to each other.........Oh come back ladies, europeans are pretty boring! :o My rant for the day!!!

Makes me laugh this coming from an American. Tennis will be so boring w/o Kim & Justine too in a few years :D

But in the end, it's true, in a way. There was more competition and better-known girls, different characters.

Well i'm not talking about the Belgiums, they can actually play tennis! They're matches with the Americans are always competitive, it's the eastern europeans who can't even hold serve half the time! :-Even though I can't stand Kim and Justine, those are two bad bitches I must say. Not as bad as The Williams or Jennifer but still.............. :)

You are experiencing something like Germany had a few years ago. Without ES it would be very hard for us, too. Male tennis is hardly on TV anywhere. So you see it's just really really tough. But if your are a fan of tennis and not only a fan of certain players, then you will continue enjoying the tour.

Those rankings don't mean a thing. It's easy to do well, when you play against weak team in CONCACAF.
Check here, which nations that are:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_national_football_teams#CONCACAF_.28North_ and_Central_America_and_Caribbean.29

And like Brazil has to play Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay etc. to qualify for the WC.

Serena + Venus always brought so much glamour and over-the-topness to the sport. In 2002 it wasnt about whether Serena would win the matches, it was how was easily and what funky outfit she'd wear. Tennis has lost a bit of sparkle for me without Jen, and especially Monica.

Couldn't say I've noticed much difference, guess I do miss Williams sisters a bit but found their domination very boring, but I don't enjoy Davenport that much, Capriati is ok.

I guess Americans will have to enjoy watching us Europeans play instead. When i say us: my two home countries dont really count that much (Germany and England arent exactly the best tennis countries) But Berlin Open was sooo much fun this week, and didn't watch a single American play!

"Like Europe isn't that some kind of cheese or something?" :tape:

Im sorry Americans but sometimes its so hard to resist having a dig. Like this morning some dumbass posted that he couldn't read Amelie's website as it was in some language he hadn't seen before.

I saw the same post and I was like  Ignorance has no boarders. There are ignorant people in the UK, France, etc. The thing I don't like is when people stereotype all Americans. Clump us together like we're one. Believe it or not there are many educated people in America. When people do stereotype Americans (Which I've seen many times on this board) it makes them look just as ignorant.

I couldn't fathom saying all French people are rude. My experiences in France were pleasant. They were no ruder than any other country I've been to. I also would never say all Brits have bad teeth. I have a lot of Brit friends with good teeth and lovely smiles. :)

So if u must judge these people do it on an individual bases not by what country they come from.

Mandy....child poo I will take you to the nightwater, and reasons why tennis is boring with wo Americans........

They have no competitive edge
They wear the same borig tired ass outfits with no flash or spice
NO personalities what so ever
Can't hold serve
No excitement on or off the court
Tennis is just a hot mess right now!

We need some sistas in catsuits and beads and diamond-bedded shoes1

How on earth tennis, or any other sport could be boring...I'd rather say that the level of play and competitveness today is lower, than lets say last year or in 1997-2003 period...or even in the times when Steffi and Monica battled it out. Too much choking from the champs, not enough rivalry in the big matches and certainly too many injuries among the top 20 nowadays;) look at Momo, Myskina, Demetieva, Pierce, Davenport, WS, Capriati, even Masha is gone for a while...JHH have instant health problems. Only Petrova and Kuznetsova are taking full advantage of what the state of wta is in 2006 by far...W/o Hingis it would have been even less interesting:)

It's never going to happen but if it would I hope it wouldn't mean that the rest of the world would be then forced to call the sport SOCCER, God what a stupid name. It would be more suitable to call American football SOCCER because in that sport you hardly kick the ball.

Soccer is not an American word, it's british

Yes it comes from the more formal term, Association Football.

Definition of football: Football is a ball game played between two teams of eleven players, each attempting to win by scoring more goals than their opponent. Football is played predominantly with the feet, but players may use any part of their body except their hands and arms to propel the ball; the exceptions to this are the goalkeepers, who are the only players allowed to handle the ball in the field of play.

Of course the real question is Why hasn't the U.S. developed any new tennis players that can compete at the top?
The U.S. Tennis cannot rest on its' laurels.
Seles-- is all but retired...
Capster-- I'd be suprised if she comes back.
Davenport-- Nearing the end of her career, but will come back, and does comit to playing a full schedule usually.
Serena-- will likely come back, but gets injured even in years when she doesn't play that many tournements. I'm convinced her health issues are NOT related to the length of the season as some suggest.
Venus-- Is back, and seems committed to playing again. Also seems to get injured in years when she's not playing that many tournaments.

It's disappointing yes! But between health issues and age... you'd think efforts would be focused on some younger players.

Many Americans, not everyone, need things to be big and pompous, e g things like the size of their malls and many events. It's partly because as a nation the USA is relatively young compared to many European nations. The USA simply lack the historical heritage and have to cover it up with stuff like that to feel adequate and proud as a nation. The bigger this and that also has had the downside that the USA is using a major part of the world's energy sources and it's obvious the effects it has on the world's environment.
