Nadia, if you are so tired and fatigued, maybe you should not play 26 tournaments a year. Plus you are in the doubles SF w/ Anna-Lena.

Petrova wins 13th straight on clay

May 12, 2006

BERLIN (AP) -- Nadia Petrova (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/196/) extended her clay-court winning streak to 13matches, struggling past fellow Russian Dinara Safina (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/170/), 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 Friday toreach the German Open quarterfinals.

Petrova will play Li Na (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/3936/) of China, who reached the semifinals of a majorevent for the first time by fighting off three match points in a 2-6, 7-6 (3),(7-6 (1) win over fourth-seeded Patty Schnyder (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/92/). "It was hard, exciting," Li said. "Compared to the last two times I lostto her, I had a good philosophy. I was calm concentrated."

Martina Hingis (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/3799/) will face top-ranked Amelie Mauresmo (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/166/) later Wednesday, whileJustine Henin-Hardenne (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/319/) continues her pursuit of a fourth title here againstSvetlana Kuznetsova (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/151/).

The fourth-ranked Petrova lost the first set and trailed 3-0 in the secondbefore rallying. A day earlier at this key French Open tuneup, she complainedof fatigue after playing more than two hours and three sets against Zheng Jie of China. "Maybe I won't get any rest until I end my career," said Petrova, who wonclay-court events at Amelia Island, Fla., and Charleston, S.C.

Hingis beat Elena Dementieva (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/89/) on Thursday, the third top 10 player she hasbeaten since returning after a three-year absence from the game.

Seriously. She didn't even play last week. Zheng made her tiried, jeeze. She is not used to having to play such a long match early in the tournament.

I think Nadia is more tired MENTALLY than PHYSICALLY

All the pressure from the Fed Cup is really weighing on her. She took a week off to try to recover but not sure if it helped. This week she has been pushed to the brink of elimination by Zvonareva, Zheng and Safina

I just think its funny. She is playing the best tennis of her career and you claim she is making all these mistakes with scheduling. She is on a 13 match win streak...I wouldn't question her strategy.

Yes. She should cut down. She is working hard though. She could surpass Maria as the Russian #1 anytime soon too.

Didn't she lose in Fed Cup?

Anyway, Petrova was clearly beat in the FCC final, and she was dang tired against Justine in Fed Cup. Now she's fatigued and complaining after a 3-set match. It's clear she needs a break, for whatever reason. Is she entered in the Rome tournament, too?

And how is any of this jealousy/complaining. Nadia plays more tournaments than pretty much any other top player, and she plays doubles in nearly all of them. It's just logical that, if she's tired, she would need to cut back on one or both.

I think she is really wanting that russian number 1 ranking badly which is why she is playing all these tournaments, bad idea me thinks cause she wont have anything in the tank come RG and by like the US open if she continues playing all these tournaments she will be burnt out for the rest of the year, her schedualing is poor to be honest and could lead her to injury in future

I see her retiring any time at some match in Rome and the having a good run at Roland Garros...she always does it before the slams!:p

perhaps now that she is becoming consistnt in getting deep in the draw she could cut back a little esp with doubles. her rivals for the majors don't play nearly as much. the is more like the kim of 2003

she needs to stop and rest for ONE week

May 12th, 2006, 09:03 PM
She should just play one week before the Australian Open (instead of both weeks and getting injured), don't bother between the French and Wimbledon and cut down on other tournaments.

May 12th, 2006, 09:04 PM
Well Nadia, the solution is rather simple...

STOP PLAYING IN 30 TOURNAMENTS A YEAR.

Do well in the slams and beat top 10 players instead of having to play 30 tournaments a year just to be in the Top 5.

I used to bitch and moan about burn out and stuff, but I still made 4-5 films a year for two decades because I wanted the dough!

i'm one of the biggest Petrova fans but i was totally pissed when Safina choked away that 6-3, 3-0 lead today. Petrova needs to get out of this draw and rest.

If she beats Na Li tomorrow and plays the Berlin final, it's absolutely critical for Nadya's RG chances that she withdraw from Rome.

Deep down, I think she knows she'll never win a major, so she just plays her ass off for the dough and ranking for endorsements. It's not a bad strategy. Let's get real, there are 5-6 girls at least who will stop her at a major.

borisy

Nadia Petrova #4 25 tournaments
Mary Pierce #5 10 tournaments

I mean LenaD plays a long schedual and always has but the difference is usually after a long tournament, lena goes to her next tournament and loses earlyish unlike petrova who consistently gets to the latter stages because her game is all about consistency, but there is no need for this many tournament or maybe she didnt think she was gonna do as well on the clay court season and entered all these tournaments at the start of the year and that strategy is now backfiring on her

I can see what your saying, resting would greatly help her in the grand slams which is where it matters most... but stop making so many threads about petrova

I don't think they count Fed Cup matches in any their match streaks/head-2-heads for WTA sanctioned events/scores

I saw her practice in Antwerp this year and of all the players I saw there, her sessions where the most intense and the longest. I hope she can keep it up, but a week off from time to time would be better, not only to be rested but also to avoid injuries caused by fatigue.

Nadia will need to redo her schedule. She knows what injury means and she shouldn't risk everything now...

I heard she and ALG don't really have fun together when they play doubles... Not a good sign. :(

Martyś

It's her choice. If she really wants to kill herself, open road.

I hope that she will reduce her schedule, and prepare better for the biggest events. Then she will have her high position and healthy, long career.

every1 gets tired every now and then they are tennis players and humans not something extraordinary, and i believe its not only because of the numbers of tournaments she's played. Haters please go away:) ur not helping her either;)
