Which famous persons play tennis or are known to be interested in tennis?

Here are some politicians that I can think of:

Former German president Richard von Weizsäcker
Former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder
Boris Yeltsin
George Bush Sr.

There are probably many more. :)

You're kidding, aren't you? Her Maj doesn't like tennis at all. The last time she attended Wimbledon was in 1977 when Sarah Wade won the women's singles title for Britain, and the Queen was reportedly seen reading a horse racing magazine while the final was being played.

If you show up at a major event and make a fool of yourself by saying things like, "Andre is a Zen master....he is much more evolved than his linear years", chances are you're doing it for the publicity and don't know squat about tennis. (Yes, we're talking about you, Ms. Streisand!)

Boris was hitting on Rena? Boris played tennis in college on a scholarship, he went into modeling and acting after he hurt his back and couldn't compete anymore. Boris and Serena are really good friends who met when Serena was around 15 or 16 through some mutual tennis connections. He once did an interview for Honey Magazine and in it he mentioned how he and Serena had never been intimate yet, but how Serena was his best friend, how much he respected her, blah blah all the things guys say when they wanna get the panties (personally I would have thrown mine at him like I was at a Luther concert, but this ain't about me.) The guy sitting next to Kylie in that photo is actor Joel Edgerton. He has appeared briefly in the latest "Star Wars" prequels and the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. He is/was the boyfriend of former Olympic sprinter, Cathy Freeman.

You could also add Cathy Freeman as a tennis fan, although i don't think she can sit still long enough to watch a complete match. Cathy had worked closely with Evonne Goolagong to encourage Aboriginal children, especially girls, to participate in sport. Through that association, Cathy began taking an interest in tennis.

Charlton Heston. He is a HUGE tennis fan! He has a tennis court installed in his backyard and plays every day. He once even invited George Bush Sr. to play with him. They discussed politics and firearms. Heston is an advocate of gun handling.

An interesting fact about Dr. Phil McGraw is that he also plays tennis every day. He mentioned this on his show and his wife gave him grief about always being on the tennis court after work EVERY day. Dr. Phil's hero is Andre Agassi.

Brooke Shields. She plays the Chris Evert charity event almost every year. That's how she met Andre. Through their mutual love of tennis. Awww... Brooke's grandfather, Max, was a Grand Slam finalist. Can't remember which one. Brooke also had some talent for tennis but never took it more seriously than as a form of exercise.

I had no idea that Michael Vartan was a tennis fan. I'm definitely going to ask him to marry me now. When it's legal. ;)

Streisand was rumored to have briefly dated Agassi somewhere around 1993-94. She showed up at Wimbledon wearing a sailor outfit and created a tabloid stir. The "Zen master" gem was inflicted upon an unsuspecting public during the US Open when the CBS on-court team walked up to Babs in the stands and asked her a few questions. (A few years later, when Pete Sampras was asked something about Streisand, he said something about how she's the sort of woman who only looks good from about 50 yards away.)

I remember that WTA-orchestrated Seles/Baldwin incident. I also remember the Capriati hype machine going into overdrive at the 1990 US Open, and how Tom Cruise was reported as being a Capriati fan who had promised little Jenny that he'd come to watch her quarterfinal match at the Open if she won her fourth round match?

Unfortunately for Mr. Cruise, the WTA, the USTA, and the Capriati team, her fourth round opponent was the #1 seed, Steffi Graf. Graf won 6-1 6-2 and, in the words of a reporter who covered that match, "sent Capriati back to school with a beating she'll never forget".
