WHAT a tennis from Justine. And the scary thing is, it's not even her best clay court tennis

But people who didn't see the match. Don't make mistake, the way Kirilenko played in the first set would have been victorious against almost everyone except Justine and Sveta, for example. Then Kirilenko had a problem on her knee and it was finished. Take care of that knee Maria and come back with the beatyful tennis in RG.

But let me just say :woohoo:

But Kirilenko must've played served awful, eh? She only won 5 points on serve during the whole match and never held it.

Congrats to Justine :)

No one said to me in the scoreboard thread what exactly the injury is, as it seems it's an old injury Maria had which "woke up". But from what I've seen, she moved still quite well- not her usual beatyful movement of course, but still it wasn't bad. So this makes me believe it's not too serious. But we'll see.

Justine Fan, you still haven't given Maria credit for not quitting and carrying on battling to end despite injury, or don't you think this is a good thing to do?

If a player wants to keep playing through her injury and finish out the match, I'm, all for it, that's her call. It's her body and she knows it best, after all.

Which is why I'm also all for it if a player decides that her injury is too much to handle and retires - she knows her body best.

Please, as if someone with Justine's reputation for competitiveness and being able to surge back into a match after being down a set-and-a-half would casually give up the chance to fight through a Grand Slam final unless she was genuinely concerned about her health. Enough harping on the AO - it's really tired, and it's literally "last season."

Exactly..:yeah: If the injury is bad enough, she should have quit I feel..Thers nothing worse for an athelete to aggrave an injury..I guess when you are young you take more risk with your body...But when you get used to these situations, you learn with time how for you should stretch the body...it must have taken a lot of courage to finish the match for makiri..but at the end of the day is it worth it if it affects her long time??

good win, but no need to celebrate just yet, Kirilenko is a decent player but she is not Slam material... and neither are Vaidisova, Ivanovic, Sesil, Krajicek, ALG, Douchevina and any other older teen, with the exception of Sharapova, for that matter... this generation won't be making too much splash, even within a depleted field

BTW hi l_r!

Who the hell are you?

And Justine was shown today what 'respect to your oponent' means, Maria could have limped off court after the first set, she wasn't going to win, but she let Justine get her victory.

I dont know whats going on here between you guys but she should have quit the match..Shouldnt take these unnecessary risks with body..Mirza is paying bigtime playing through injuries all the time..Its just not worth it...

I hope she hasn't made it worse, and I hope it doesn't affect her RG chances. I'm worried big time for her...Big Masha played though injuries and we know what it did to her in the last half of last season, she's only recently fully recovered from it.

I can't believe it :p Henin won it ? Oh well, in spite of winning this match she doesn't have any chance for victory in Paris when Chakvetadze is on fire.

Great Juju, you're my clay queen.

Ahhhhh you don't know who I am .... but I know who you are

Maria wasn't limping on the court so why should she have limped off it?

She let Justine get her victory? Yeh right!  So are you saying that if it wasn't for the injury Maria would have won the match?

What happened in the firrst set before Maria's injury then? :haha:

This is normal in tennis, these players are only human and they can't be 100% all the time...They get unjured they get sick they get tired they have a bad day....it is normal ....all part of the game....so get over it......I am tempted to say something here but I dont want a hundred angry fans all over me .....:haha:

Oh Stop harping on maria's injury. It's my philisophy that if you think you're well enough to play, you're well enough to lose.

Or do we need to invalidate Maria Sharapova's 2004 YEC title win? Remember Serena's injury?

I expected more from Little Masha than winning one game against Henin. :o :( I expected one close set and one easy set for Justine but got 2 easy sets instead. Maria has nothing to bother Henin with so I knew Juju would take Makiri to school on the slow red clay of Berlin. But I didn't know she would wipe out Maria so easily. It seems Henin is in fine clay court form once again.

It's a pitty that Kirilenko had pain in her knee, but I am sure that she is still a talented player and that we will hear more from her in comming weeks and months for sure. Henin-Hardenne also did play a good match and let's face it she is very good on the clay courts!
