Well you could just look at the weather in Berlin and in Qatar and you would probably understand why.
It's in the mid 70s F this week in Berlin.
It's approaching the 100s F in Qatar this week.

There's really no way that a big clay tournament will ever happen in spring in the Middle East.

THe guys from Qatar promised not to move the tournament when they bought it. There's some time limit on that. I'll try to find references.....

qatar should have their own huge teir 1 tournament

they use the german open to present Qater to the german people
and make them interested in visiting qatar

The thing is, that they really try to exchange it with the Tier2 in Qatar. So that Qatar becomes a Tier 1 and Berlin a Tier 2 tournament. On the financial side, it should be the right decision. But for the fame of this old tourney here in Berlin...

I hope it stays put. This tournament has so much history attached to it that it would be a real shame if it disappeared. Plus, Germany has a long and glorious tennis history and deserves to keep a major event.

Germany can't lose more tournaments. Leipzig, Hamburg are enough :(
