Funny how a tournament in Germany is sponsored not by another country
Why don't they just move Berlin tournament to Qatarrhz May 11th, 2006, 03:12 AM Funny how a tournament in Germany is sponsored not by another country  Wannabeknowitall May 11th, 2006, 03:26 AM Funny how a tournament in Germany is sponsored not by another country  Well you could just look at the weather in Berlin and in Qatar and you would probably understand why. It's in the mid 70s F this week in Berlin. It's approaching the 100s F in Qatar this week. There's really no way that a big clay tournament will ever happen in spring in the Middle East. Szymanowski May 11th, 2006, 03:26 AM haha good point! Volcana May 11th, 2006, 03:58 AM THe guys from Qatar promised not to move the tournament when they bought it. There's some time limit on that. I'll try to find references..... DutchieGirl May 11th, 2006, 04:18 AM It'd be weird if they moved it to Qatar... georgekuo1017 May 11th, 2006, 04:24 AM it will be strange... xtooL May 11th, 2006, 04:58 AM there are no clay courts in Qatar , not even one ... jas_aussie May 11th, 2006, 06:26 AM qatar should have their own huge teir 1 tournament matthias May 11th, 2006, 06:50 AM they use the german open to present Qater to the german people and make them interested in visiting qatar Paule22 May 11th, 2006, 06:57 AM The thing is, that they really try to exchange it with the Tier2 in Qatar. So that Qatar becomes a Tier 1 and Berlin a Tier 2 tournament. On the financial side, it should be the right decision. But for the fame of this old tourney here in Berlin... Andy T May 11th, 2006, 08:32 AM I hope it stays put. This tournament has so much history attached to it that it would be a real shame if it disappeared. Plus, Germany has a long and glorious tennis history and deserves to keep a major event. Slumpsova May 11th, 2006, 10:20 AM Germany can't lose more tournaments. Leipzig, Hamburg are enough :( | |
