I am a fan of both players and it is extremely sad and unfortunate that the outcome of the match was decided by retirement

Before anyone bashes Na and says she did not deserve to win the match, let me point out that she was not thrashed by Ana. Ana won 39 points and Na 32

And the 2 fought in a LONG game on Na's service at 1-4 in the first set which went to 10 deuces

Ana get well

I don't think anybody expected to trash Na. It's not her fault.

PS. You should take that smiley away from her as well IMO.

Actually they had 11 times dueces, and Na gained 6 GPs.

They usually went to 40-40 in the first set,but Na just couldn't catch the key points,so led to the scoreline.

I guess she strained the thigh muscle. It happened at 4-1, Ana got medical treatment and managed to close out the set, but was looking extremely uncomfortable. Then played a few points and she realized it wasn't going to work. I hope it was more of a precaution, but still...

Well, I wouldn't say it like that
It was a very intense match with huge hitted groundstrokes.
And especially a serve of Na, who made Ivanovic move hard in the end was a factor for her that she decided not to go on.

update from ana's website:

Ana had an ultrasound scan after retiring through injury against Na Li this afternoon. The results are encouraging: she did not pull the muscle in her left thigh, rather it appears to be a slight tear. That Ana retired when she did, rather than attempt to finish the match, which she was leading 6-1, was crucial to not worsening the injury. :scared:

She will have another scan in Belgrade tomorrow and, after therapy, hopes to be practising again shortly. She is forced to withdraw from Rome next week  , but is confident about playing in the French Open, which begins at Roland Garros in 19 days' time. :woohoo:

Ana was in extreme pain after suffering the injury. She was also very disappointed that it came at a time when she was playing so well. But now, several hours later, she is calm and accepts that this is all part of professional tennis.
