Maria's next event will take place at Warsaw at the J&s Cup. The Draw really looks dangerous, Makiri has to face Martina Hingis in the first round. This is really a tough job. Her next opponent could be Venus Williams.
Here is the full Draw:

q vs. q
Medina vs. Likhotseva
Laine vs. Schiavone

Dementieva -bye
Hantuchova vs. q
Koukalova vs. Benesova

V.Williams vs. U.Radwanska
Hingis vs. Kirilenko
q vs. Srebotnik
Kuznetsova -bye

ALG vs. Smashnova
Chekvatadze vs. Jankovic
Domachowska vs. Ivanovic
Schnyder -bye#

Good Luck Makiri! You Can Make It! :worship: :worship:

Worst draw she could of asked for. :fiery: Hingis in the first round, and if she somehow gets past that then Venus in the 2nd round.

Good luck Maria! :scared:

Seems like she pulled the shortest straw that must be very frustrating getting a draw like that when your in a good ranking position like Maria, but i believe she can do it.

I actually like her chances against Venus better against Hingis. Venus hasn't played in ages and probably would be a bit rusty. Hingis just isn't a good matchup for Masha.

Terrible draw in doubles too. Maria/Ana plays Liezel/Navratilova in the first round.

I'm not sure that the draw could be worst for her :(
Good luck there :)

Maria lost 57 67 ... well the score could have been other way round, but Maria didn`t take her chances. She was a break up in both sets :(

Positives:

+ with one or two exceptions her drop shots were very good, and that`s a positive sign as Maria likes that shot and uses it very often and secondly its a very useful shot on clay

+ there was no obvious/visible weakness in her game today

= Maria`s serve was ok. (she served two aces in a row in the first set) but it`s still not a weapon, and she still can`t rely on it too much

Negatives:

- well it`s just the fact that she lost. Masha played good match IMO, but couldn`t close out either the first or the second set, and after bad beginning of the tie-break she looked like she accepted the lose. At 1-5 in the TB she forgot that it was her turn to serve and it was a sad end of actually a quite good match.

Masha called the trainer after the first set but I don`t know what was the problem, as I couldn`t see it from my place. The match was suspended because of the rain at 2-1 in the second set and the conditions were dreadful throughout the match (cold and drizzle)

But as I said it was a good match in my opinion, and I can`t think of more then 8-10 players in the draw that would beat Masha today.

Sorry, I will go for a couple of beers now and will post some pics in two hours or so :)

Man that was a great Match by Makiri yesterday vs. Hingis! She played really strong and it wasn't an easy run for Martina. Well, Maria lost but she showed us again her great form and she showed us that she is able to compete with the best players on Clay. Well done Makiri!

Thanks for the eyewitness report, Keraj! It is sad that you will not get to see Maria play more on the singles side. Maybe she will make a run for you in doubles! Regarding the tie-breaker, I was just following the scores on the J&S website, and when she was up 54 and serving in the first set I was psyched. Then she lost three games in a row, the last one on that really long duece game, and it was incredibly depressing. But when she came back and broke Martina to take a 10 with a break in hand, then kept that break until a 54 lead in the second set, wow. I really thought she would take the second set. Then she got broken in the 10th game again and wound up in a tie-breaker. After she got down at the start of the tie-breaker I had a sense that after fighting for two hours, there was no more fight left in her. For Maria to lose is always bad, but when she loses and seems so disappointed and sad at the end, kind of breaks your heart.

hingis is very good at getting her breaks back. players need to learn to eat her serves though.

I hear she told Ana before the match, we have to win this one for Keraj ;) Keraj, hopefully you got to see this one. A very impressive win over the #1 seeds. The next team up looks to be "win-able".

Yeah I saw it :) Excellent doubles match. Maria was serving & volleying even after second serves sometimes :rocker: And Ana was very impressive, I thought she is kind of useless in doubles, I was sooo wrong :o

Maria and Ana not on the schedule for Thursday, but they are on the schedule for tomorrow (Friday):

Court 1
12.00 noon
Meilen Tu/Andrea Vanc vs
Anabel Medina Garrigues/Katarina Srebotnik

After suitable rest
Ana Ivanovic/Maria Kirilenko vs
Iveta Benesova/Michaella Krajicek

The "suitable rest" is because Ana I plays Anna C in singles in the second match on Center Court on Friday.

If Maria and Ana make a run to the finals they will have to play semis on Saturday with the final on Sunday. As Lichowcewa/Myskina have won through to the next round already, they would be the semi's opponent.

On to the Warsaw Semifinals for Maria! They won today's match 62 63 in an hour and eight minutes. The team of Lichowcewa/Myskina had already won through to the next round yesterday and they will be Maria and Ana's opponent Saturday. The other semi was played today and the team of Medina Garrigues/Srebotnik, the #2 seeded team, awaits in the finals should Maria's team win on Saturday. Would be a very nice doubles tounament win as Maria and Ana would have to defeat both the #1 and #2 seeds to achieve it.

And for Ana to team with Maria today in doubles for such an impressive win just after losing to Anna C in singles in a tough three set match, got to give Ana a lot of credit.
