I'm visiting New York, Los Angeles and San Diego this summer!! :D I was wondering if anyone has got any tips or lives there and has an idea of which things someone should REALLY not miss when visiting your city, or just some random thoughts or tips, any input is appreciated actually ;)
My interests vary: I'm really interested in art (especially modern - as in recent - art, graphic design, illustration, film and also photography, architecture and fashion), science, parks, some nice places to go out. I know I could look up any of those subjects in numerous brochures and books, but I'm really interested in what you guys might think!

Buy a weekly Metro card ($24); you will have unlimited rides on both the subway and bus.
See Brooklyn (Fort Greene, Brooklyn Heights, among other areas).
Go to a Yankee game; the stadium will be torn down in a few years.
Eat at Gramercy Tavern (http://www.gramercytavern.com/menu_main.html).

For a nice Kodak-moment I would say Empire State building. Central Park is beautiful too, lots to see there. Or take the Staten Island ferry (for free) or take the boat to Liberty Island and/or Ellis Island, from there you can make nice pics too overlooking the skyline.
PS: thanx Aquanetta, for the other NY tips. They're very useful to me because I'm going back to NY this summer for two weeks.

if you goto Los Angeles, you MUST ABSOLUTELY visit THE GETTY (not getty images ;) )
It is the most fantastic modern architecture in the area. simply stunning with absolutely fabulous views overlooking Hollywood/Los Angeles. The best part about it is that it's FREE (with only a $7 parking fee).
You can also visit the MOCA and if you get time, visit FIDM's costume gallery if you want to see the costumes used in many period-films.

Yeah there are some pretty cool museums in LA - Getty I would say is top of the list - obviously there's all the Hollywood stuff which I love, especially all the stuff about 'old' Hollywood, like when it was first being built up to be the film capital as it is today.
One piece of advice if you don't have a car is to get to know the subway and bus routes cos I spent one day walking everywhere and having my hotel in Downtown LA and trying to walk to the Hollywood part takes literally hours! ;)
New York is just really a take your pick of what you want to do cos there's so much. I spent a whole day just shopping :D, another in and around Broadway, another down in Lower Manhatten/Twin Towers site/Statue of Liberty, another going to the UN, another doing all the other touristy things like the Empire State Building. Really there's just so much to do, I didn't have enough to do it all
