:wavey: I went to the college fair today, and a lot of colleges from foreign countries showed up with representatives. One of them that really captured my attention was Bond University in Gold Coast, Australia.

I don't know if this was salesmanship, but these were basically the things that made my ears perk:

#1 university in Australia
#1 business program in Australia
Very cost efficient ($55,000 tuition for two years + $10,000 room and board/year)
Very good connections, companies always look for graduates from this university
Second highest mean salary after graduating

I also found out that it would only take 2 years for a BS, and an extra year for a Masters (in Business for me). Also, it's a year-long program, so three semesters with 10 weeks vacation in between there.

Can you people in Australia who are more experienced and in-the-know with the education system confirm this stuff, and if there is more about the university that is probably unattractive that obviously they would not disclose to the public?

My college search is starting to heat up, and this seemed like such an opportunity that I couldn't pass up!

Thanks :wavey:

Bond university has questionable ethics. It's a university which has a lot of money, and that is all.

The group of 8 (or whatever) universities are the best to go to. Bond University is not one of them. Australian National University and Melbourne University are the best in Australia.

Only an hour away from Bond University is a much better business school at QUT.

Nearly all of what Bond University said is very questionable, sad to say. It is no where near the best in Australia, other than the fact it spends all its money on advertising itself and not treating its staff right. In my opinion, it pumps out ill prepared students. The medical degree, which you can buy yourself into with 250,000? AUD, is extremely fast-tracked. Everything about this university is about money, money and money.

Sorry, but that's my opinion :)

I'm not going to denigrate Bond University - for all I know, it may have a very good program in business studies. But it's far from being the best university in Australia. That honour is fought out between the Australian National University, the University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney, and maybe the University of New South Wales. Behind them come Monash University, the University of Queensland, University of Adelaide and University of Western Australia. Those form the so-called "group-of-8" or "Go8" universities. After the Go8, there are still a lot of others ranked well ahead of Bond in overall prestige and reputation.

I actually doubt that Bond has a lot of money. It's a private university that has had a lot of financial difficulties over the years. I doubt that they've all been solved.

Bond is not the no.1 university in Australia. Its a really good one, and although its very debatable which uni is the best, that would probably be between ANU, Melbourne, Sydney or one of the group of eight.

But I know people who go to bond and they really enjoy it, university is such a personal and subjective thing.

As everyone one has said above. I would have thought ANU topped the rankings.

I also agree that unio is a personal and subjective thing.. I have a few friends at ANU... that are now questioning why they are even there.

Umm... I don't know too much about Bond, one of my friends is going to do medicine up there though. But I don't think it's the best in Australia.

If you look at rankings, it's actually ANU, but that's misleading for students, because that's largely to do with the fact that the research at ANU is very highly rated.

Education wise, Melbourne or Sydney would be the best.

I know! I hate the way people throw rankings around, they are totally irrelevant anyway! Plus in recent rankings, Melbourne was ranked the highest Australian university. But poor Canberrans they don't have much.

Anyway back to the topic somewhat, different universities also have different subjects in which they excel. Like I only know about NSW unis.

UNSW: Commerce (some people will argue and say Syd but I think UNSW wins), Medicine, Law

UTS: Journalism, they also have one of the best business programs because they have lot of internships etc, its more practical based there courses rather then UNSW and Syds Commerce degrees.

Usyd: Arts, Law, can't think of anything else. One of the oldest universities in Australia.

Mac: Acturial studies, accounting and all that jazz.

There is no way it is the #1 University.

Australian National University and The University of Melbourne are the best.

Personally, I have never heard of Bond University.

I would not advise a business program anyway :tape:  Very boring. Trust me, I tried it.

That's true... the commerce part of my degree is just painful.

I have supply/demand curves well and truly implanted in my brain now
