Hi there, okay so i'm planning a lil trip to Italy next month and i found some very cheap flights to Sardinia (Alghero) and Sicilia (Palermo).

Which island do you guys (Italians, people who've been there) would recommend?

Grazie.

Or else, i might go to Barcelona, Spain.

Went to the other side of Sicilia (Catania) must say it's nice. But I would prefer Barcelona.

Sicily is awesome, May will be the perferct month to go (not many tourists, not too hot weather), nice beaches, GREAT and cheap food, lots of historic place to visit and a fantastic experience overall :hearts:

Barcelona is fine, but expect tourists and tourists and tourists everywhere all year around...

Lots of schooltrips also in Bacelona.

Sicilia and Sardegna are really nice of course, but there are many other famous islands that are just as beautiful like Ischia, Capri (a MUST for all tourists) Lampedusa and the whole "Eòlie" group of Islands.

Ah, thanks for the replies!

Okay then Barcelona is a big no-no, i don't want any tourist around! :p Living in London, i know what it is ;) i'll probably go a weekend later on.. besides i'm planning a trip to Spain in July

I see Sicily must be real nice. One of my friend also recommends it. The thing is the really cheap tickets are for Sardinia! And i'd like to have some positive feedbacks to make me go there  i guess it looks like Corsica, and i know this island is a gem!

Dilemmas..

Why bother with Italy?

Just take a much cheaper trip to Mull or the Channel Islands! I'm sure the weather will be just as nice

I went to Sardegna last summer, I loved it.
We landed in Olbia and then went to the north...Costa Smeralda (beautiful, but not really suited for campers as there are no campsites).
We then went on to Palau(nice city),Isola La Maddalena (the most beautiful place I've ever seen in this world!!!), Santa Teresa...from there we took the ferry to Bonifacio, which is a great city too. Our final destination was Alghero. The city centre is lovely but the beaches were not too impressive.
Overall I can tell you that Sardegna is definitely worth a trip. I'm sure you'll enjoy.

Thanks for your reply! Interesting..

I'd land to Alghero and would probably stay around (unless there are easy ways to travel around the north of the island, i'm intrigued by La Maddalena now!!) i have my driving license so maybe i could rent a car but i'd rather take a bus or something.. do you know anything about that?

There are buses. One goes from Alghero to Sassari, then Sassari to Santa Teresa, Santa Teresa to Palau, Palau to Baia Sardinia, Baia Sardinia to Olbia.
So in theory there's no problem to travel the North by bus though the schedules are quite ummm Mediterenean ;)
Feel free to ask for more :)

Oh but i can't stand her so i won't dare asking her :p

Lolas, thank you for all the info. I found quite a nice cheap hotel too in Alghero so i guess Alghero it will be. Then if there's a way to visit the north of the island that will be a bonus.
