View Full Version : Should an American consider a job in the Middle East?

I applied for a consulting job w/a large company in Qatar. While it's highly unlikely that lil ol' me would be considered... I was wondering. If they offer, would I go? Should I go?

I like to travel.
I'm very open minded about cultures/other religions/languages, etc.
I'm not a staunch USA national that believes my country is without ills/fault.
I've always wanted to go to Qatar, at least to visit.
I'm not at all scared of dying/being killed.

Having said all of that yourself, I think you should go then :)

I think you should consider all the advantages and disadvantages but Qatar seems like a pretty safe place. Same with UAE etc... So I say go for it. It should be an adventure.

I've always had a fantasy to have sex with a muslim man. :o

Whilst I'm far from Muslim... for you I'd pretend! I'd even hit you in the ass with a Koranface with a non secular cottonball if that'd get you going.

You'd probably be safer in most Muslim countries than you are in the United States. Crime is far less pervasive, and targeted attacks against Americans are not as high as some would have you believe.

Hey Athenaeum!

I live in Dubai, UAE, and I can tell you there are quite some Americans living all over the Middle East Region. And yes, even in Saudi Arabia.

I'm not sure how they are being handled with, but there are quite a few. So I guess its okay, otherwise there wouldnt be that much in this area.

As a matter of fact, UAE has a fair good relationship with USA. Therez for example an ''American University'' here, very big and well known education centre ;)

If you can stand torture and don't mind being used as a weapon against your country and finance extremist groups, go ahead...

Hey mate,

I'd go for it, if you don't like it you can always jack it in. I too would love to go and work in the middle east..., what kind of work do you do? Is it in the oil & gas industry? If it is, would it be possible to talk to you about your career? I'm about to embark on mine.......,

I went over to Saudi Arabia as part of the Lindsay Irrigation center pivot team.
But the money was outstanding.
Too bad I was young and stupid, as I have none of it left.
*deep sigh*
