This is subtracting all points earned during that time. No 18th, 19th, or 20th tournaments are added. #1, I am not going to look through an entire year, and #2, players need to earn more than the amounts of those tournaments to make any positive headway so not using them for this purpose does tend to balance it out. This only reflects the current top 15.

Anyhow:

It seems Kim is safe in the top five :bounce: :D

A few notes:

Last year, after Madrid, Aranxta was #8 and Anna #9. Conchita #12, Kim #14, Justine #16, Mary #18, Jelena #19, Sandrine #21, Chanda #22, and Silvia #23. A lot has changed.

The post US Open points are not even remotely like how the rankings will look. The 435 point difference between #1 and #8 is almost negligible. There are still 3 Slams a Tier I and 5 Tier II's from now to then.

Lindsay does not have time to get her feet wet. She needs to hit Eastbourne hard and keep achieving big. 10th in Post US Open points, and the field still has a Slam to add to their totals before she starts. After the US Open it gets even tougher for her.

Martina would be in pretty good shape right now if not injured. If she can't get back by around San Diego, she's got big problems.

Serena is likely poised to remain in the top 3 until at least the year-end Championships.

Thanks a lot for the stats... things are looking good for Serena... and quite good for Venus (cause I know she'd defend them all) ;)

Only updating two intervals this week, and only updating the top 8. Blame:

1. Jannak for not doing round by round point updates this week
2. Tenniscorner for being a couple days behind on theirs
3. Jelena Dokic for playing 30 tournaments and making me do far more math and research than I care to

Post Roland Garros

1. Venus Williams 4589
2. Serena Williams 3874
3. Jennifer Capriati 3667
4. Monica Seles 3526
5. Kim Clijsters 3386
6. Lindsay Davenport 3350
7. Justine Henin 3227
8. Martina Hingis 2816

Post Wimbledon

1. Venus Williams 3683
2. Serena Williams 3634
3. Monica Seles 3526
4. Jennifer Capriati 3219
5. Kim Clijsters 3009
6. Martina Hingis 2814
7. Lindsay Davenport 2637
8. Jelena Dokic ?
9. Justine Henin 2395

BTW, Jelena didn't play this week last year, so make it THIRTY ONE
events.

disposablehero
May 26th, 2002, 02:18 AM
However, Monica now has 17 events, so after Wimbledon she will need to drop her worst 2.

3526-46 (Charleston)-100 (US Open)= 3380

So Monica has to make up 303 points on Venus for #1. Plus nearly as much on Serena, and not let Jen outpace her. However, if she beats Venus in the QF, that match alone is worth 280 points.

5. Kim Clijsters 3097

Anastasia is safe in top 16 after the US Open so that means she will be Gold Exempt for 2003 :bounce: (only 85 points to defend (New Haven))

Elena needs just a few more points, a win today would do it :)

All top 16 players after US Open are Gold Exempt for next year so its pretty crucial.

Still some places up for grabs.

The only sure bets so far are
Serena/Venus
Hingis
Capriati
Seles
Henin

other 4 Players are picked as Wild Cards

Although she won't be playing, Hingis is doing a good job holding on! She might actually move up

And Venus could fall fast soon, because she sure as hell won't gain anything for the next three months.
