kitni sharm ki baat hoti agar pak se haar jate. but we have good jounier players in boys eg sanam and jeevan. i hope they will be good players. i saw sanam's stats at aussie open and he is also seemed to be like sania, lots of winners and lots of uf. his opponents had figures of both under 10. seems to be a very attacking player.

$$ Neha Uberoi stuns Lisa Raymond in Family Circle $$

Tuesday, 11 April 2006

In the biggest win of her fledgling career, wild-card Neha Uberoi stunned Lisa Raymond 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the first round of the Family Circle Cup yesterday. It was the biggest win of Neha's career, and was made possible by some fearless serving (11 aces, which trumped 12 double-faults -- the latter presumably mainly in the second set!). Neha's switch to India colours appears to be taking longer than expected, but this week that had a fortunate spillover: she got a wildcard to a pro event in the US, and used it to superb advantage.

Definitely Amir is the best actor...Doesnt matter even if he gets 1 movie for more than 2-3 years...But, he will read the script and if it attracts him only then he will sign the movie...And then works brilliantly for the given character...Signing more and more movie as possible has never been the problem with this guy...

Indian women throng US IT sector

Sreejiraj Eluvangal in Mumbai | April 11, 2006 14:50 IST

Indian women march into America's infotech campuses.

Indian men have been walking the corridors of high technology in US for quite a few years now. It is now the turn of the Indian women.

In a head-turning spectacle, Indian women have emerged as the largest non-US group in the list of recipients of the prestigious Anita Borg scholarships for female computer-science students in US universities, announced recently.

They have managed to bag 10 of the 47 scholarships on offer. While four of the 19 girl-students who won the $10,000 scholarship this year are Indian, even the 28 finalists who won consolations of $1,000 contain no less than six Indian names. (See chart).

I find it sad that a human killer(Jessica Lal) with many witness around is walking scot free whereas Salman is sentenced for 5yrs for killing a buck. This is the state of Indian Justice, just bcos that Jessica's killer is a politician's son, he has been protected and almost all the evidence against him has vanished whereas Salman has been convicted based on a drivers' testimony(who BTW has disappeared since his testimony in 2002). This is really a sad state of affairs and we youth must take steps to remove corruption from our country.

Yes it is sad..no doubt....but salman is also very much a culprit, he shud be punished if he has killed a buck. Apart from the testimony, i think there were also some pics of salman and saif holding guns which surfaced a few days back, whereas salman has vehemently opposed that he was carrying a gun...whatever be the case, salman doesnt appear to be scott-free in this matter
As solid3k pointed out, it is certainly amazing that others like satish shah and saif who shud also have been under scrutiny, there is not even a mention of them. Perhaps, they find it easy to raise a finger on salman seeing his behavior over the past few years (hit and run cases etc)

I am not saying that he is innocent but the fact of the matter is transparency should be there. As solid3k pointed out, all the other stars ve been acquitted and they are not even mentioned anywhere and dont u think that 5year prison sentence is little too much for killing a buck.

As i mentioned before in my post, what makes this sentence difficult to digest is that after Jessica Lal murder case, where the criminal was acquitted eventho there was strong evidence against him, Salman has been convicted for much-less crime.

Also just now saw Mumbai commisioners interview, he was saying that since Salman has been convicted in two cases so far, he will get much stricter sentence in the hit-and-run case and that he wont be given bail since he has so many cases against him.

Well it was a rare endangered species apparantly so the crime is like poaching...Its such a shame in many other cases where you see all the evidence and still they are not punished..Its really infuriating then...Its a fact that most system of justice sometimes fail to give justice doesnt mean that hose who r convicted of crime should get less punishment just coz there are many more who cudnt be proved of guilty while they were..ANyways yeah all of them should be put in jail actually..I think everyone has to pay for their sins someway or the other..Sooner or later...

Salman sure to be on world tour: Morani

Hmmm....

The actor was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment of five years on Monday by a Jodhpur court for killing a chinkara, a protected species of gazelle.

Asked how the current turn of events would affect the tours, Ali Morani told a news agency: "The concert Rock Stars is very much on. Yes, we were worried because it's 17 cities all over the world. We spoke to Salman's lawyer Dipesh Mehta. We wanted to know whether we should postpone, cancel or just wait. He assured us that there's nothing to worry about.

"They are moving the court to get a stay order. Then Salman can travel for the concerts. Even last time when Salman got one year's sentence, he could travel to Mauritius after the stay order. We are confident that he'll accompany us."

Sania has been lucky, alleges Ankita

NEW DELHI: Promising tennis player Ankita Bhambri has a grievance to make. The Delhi girl notes that other women tennis players in the country are not getting as much support as Sania Mirza has been able to get to make an impact at the international level.

Ankita, who is making her presence felt in the country's tennis circle by her impressive performances, said Sania got a lot of support from the AP government which helped her shape her career.

"Sania has been lucky. The way she got support from the government was not given to others. The Andhra Pradesh Government has helped her financially and otherwise which is not seen in case of other governments," she said while reasoning out why India is not producing another player like the world No.37.

The 17-year-old said that if other players in the country are given that kind of support they too can shine in the international scene like Sania.

That is very true..Indian players can not even dream of going on tour on their own..Its just tooo much money..And sania was luckey to get the support and thats why she thanks govt and GVK all the time as they helped her in her formative years when it was really vital..Its a shame that none else is getting much support..

"My boyfriend is innocent"

by Somesh Vasishth

Call it a coincidence or sheer fate but it is true, both Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu are having awful time as their respective boyfriend go through the toughest ordeals of their lives.

After spending three consecutive nights in prison Salman finally may have got the bail today but his troubles are far from over. While in Jodhpur prison, poor Kat couldn't even meet him as sallu already had three visitors, the number allotted to a convicted person.

On the other hand Bipasha is having tough time defending John Abraham who is being accused of negligent driving that led to an accident on Saturday night in which John and two cyclists sustained injuries.

Ask him if Kat asked him to defer the event and he tells, “She didn't say anything to me. No. There is no doubt that Katrina is disturbed, but I am sensitive enough to understand the situation. I have promised Katrina that we all will celebrate once Salman is back.”

I agree with most of what u say but the fact is Salman's punishment is way too much. Im pretty sure that if a common man had committed this crime, he wouldnt ve been convicetd for 5YEARS..The only reason Salman has been given such a tough sentence is to set the benchmark and warn other celebrities from committing this crime. Salman has been used as a scapegoat in this case and most of the people seem to agree with this(in so many polls of news channels). SALMAN HAS BEEN PROSECUTED BECAUSE HE IS FAMOUS.

Sohail says :"What do thet want? Do they really want Salmanbhai to to go to jail for five years? Will that make them happy? From what we see it seems some people are working towards putting him in.

"When people say, treat Salman like any ordinary citizen we say, please do. Because right now he is being treated much worse than any ordinary citizen. Why is he being made into an example?

And if he's being made into an example is everyone in a black buck case going to go to prison and is everyone involved in a road accident going to go to jail? Chalo theek hai…aapne Salman-bhai ko andar kiya. Ab sab ko karo."

Sohail will remain in Jodhpur until further development. "I'm here with my sister. I'm all right. Today I was disappointed when the bail please was rejected. But that's okay. Tomorrow is another day. Salmanbhai will survive."

ABSOLUTELY...Any other person might have killed the buck then it wont have been that big a story...People kill humans and nothing like punishment for them...

"India must not host Commonwealth Games"

Sharad Yadav, the newly-elected president of the Janata Dal United, has asked the Union Government to scrap its plans to host the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi and utilize that money for better purposes instead.

"I understand that the Indian Olympic Committee, headed by Suresh Kalmadi, spent Rs 23 crore on an eleven-minute song and drama sequence, in which several film actors took part, at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games. This money was total waste and I believe should have been used for the welfare of the students from backward class communities instead," he said.

He wondered why a country like India should spend so much on bidding to host the Games.

"What is the big deal in hosting games like the Commonwealth Games in India? What do we gain, barring a few medals and some IOA officials having a good time? I believe that the huge amount of money that would be spent on hosting the Games could have been used for giving grants to Delhi University and other academic institutions of excellence. We could have created more IITs and IIMs with that fund," he added.

Already Indian athletes and other sports personalities representing India in Olympic Games are receiving much lesser amount than they deserve...

The next commonwealth games will be held in Delhi...So, during the end of the commonwealth games in Australia...India was given some 15 minutes time to perform in Australia...As to ask people to visit India in 2010 commomwealth games...The singers and some bolywood actors, actresses performed for just 11 minutes to rap about Rs. 23 crore...

So, the Delhi govt. has now decided not to allow even a single Bollywood star to perform in 2010...This I heared in News, some days back...

WHAT THE HECK IS GOIN' AROUND...

India has sold its nuclear soul to the US

April 27, 2006

The US waiver bill to give effect to the nuclear deal with India shows just how wide the gap is between what America promises and what it sets out to do.

The July 18, 2005 nuclear deal promised India 'the same benefits and advantages as other leading countries with advanced nuclear technology, such as the United States'. But in implementing the deal, Washington has maneuvered things in such a way that India's status is to be frozen as a second-class nuclear power, with none of the benefits and advantages that the US enjoys.

solid3k
Apr 29th, 2006, 09:32 AM
I still have a doubt that India will get benefit with this deal...US is the one who I suppose will be more benefitted...Do you people here agree with giving the reactors under IAEA inspection...I mean those Reactors are made by our own technology...No one has the right to send it under IAEA inspection...We are 20% of the world and we deserve to be among the nuclear countries without any doubt...

What do my friends here think abt it ???

I dont know really enough to comment abt the agreement but as far as i could make it, it is not advantageous to India. What was signed and what US is now offering is entirely diff.. Yes India will have the advantage of getting support on the Civil nuclear but as far as weaponry is concerned, US wants to curb the potential of India..First of all who the hell are US to judge who has the weapons; they ve no right to impose sanctions or stop any country from producing bombs or whatever..AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED THIS DEAL IS TOTALLY BULLSHIT AND INDIA SHOULD NOT ACCEPT IT

solid3k
Apr 29th, 2006, 04:18 PM
Matched mine view here... Keeping 14 reactors under iaea inspection is bullshit... Also looking at stiff competition from China, India needs to be concluded in the nuclear sanctioned nations list very soon...

India is the world's largest democratic nation... The most neutral nation in the world and with the overwhelming population of about 20% of the world, India must have the right to be considered in the nuke nations list by nature itself...

Kidnapped Indian engineer identified

April 29, 2006 12:20 IST

The Indian engineer abducted in Afghanistan has been identified as A Suryanarayana from Hyderabad, Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed said in New Delhi on Saturday.
Suryanarayana was working for Bahraini company 'Al Mayyad' which is into telecom and construction business in Afghanistan, Ahamed told PTI.

Government is in close touch with the Indian Embassy in Afghanistan and the Bahraini company, he said.

The kidnapping of Suryanarayana is the third incident in the last four months wherein an Indian has been targeted in the war-torn country  .

yeah I know very little about this deal as well but India definately should be among nuclear countries for sure..Also its a fact that we have developed it without any foreign help mainly..Unlike some other countries..If whatever you guys saying is right then it really seems an aweful deal..Plus india needs Nuclear enerygy really badly doesnt it??Our resources of energy are soo stressed out..(not to mention all the power cuts)..This deal is sooo typical of USA..So slick and mean..I hope the leaders take the decision in favour of indian economy...

Taj Mahal: From India, with love to Pakistan...

To be fair, Taj Mahal is the second film to be screened here after the war. Mughal-e-Azam was the first. Sohni Mahiwal was also allowed, making the three films "one-time exceptions" by the Pakistan Cultural Ministry. This despite the demand by cinema hall owners and the industry that the ban be lifted.
Fardeen Khan and his father, actor Feroz Khan, had especially flown in from India for the movie's premiere. Hrithik Roshan was supposed to be there too, but couldn't make it because of the death of his grandfather.

Qur'Aan, Hadith...

Deoband school is popular, There are some gud islamic schools in UP - Thou I dont know them by name...

Kondivra in South Maharashtra, (close to Ratnagiri...) is also a popular sunni school...

Muslims were minorities... And the fear that Hindus will write off Muslims from India at that time might have given a big boost to the movement... This are my views though... Also, British did supported the movement and were responsible for growing the gap between the two religion...

Why are you asking such kind of questions :tape: ??? ; though...

Isnt; INDIA A SECULAR COUNTRY :worship: ... We all are living here with peace...

There are different type of individuals and different type of debates. My questions may not belong to a quotidean conversation but more in an intellectually oriented one . So nothing to be surprised about.

Partition and hindu-muslim issues are central issues in India(apart from being a matter of deep interest to me) and will always be debated. For instance Advani trigggered the jinnah debate again. So i am surprised at your question.

Neither do i. But politics and society affects all our lives and hence a frequent as well as legitimate subject of public debate.

As for Advani, he scored a self goal and put himself in trouble with his own party :)

I hate the sangh parivar. if i don't stop right now,i may write a essay on it.

because he will pull the curtains down in a few years. VRV and munaf are the ones to watch out for.I hope Sachin atleast plays 3 more years from now on...

As for bowling... I think Munaf should be given some more shots in the odi team...

He is definitely nasty in test... Have you seen those reverse swinging yorkers and the nasty bouncers which come onto the body of the batsman...

As far as I know... He used to be taken in the Mumbai team for his batting - allround ability... He has played at no. 11 for the International test series and has not got chance to bat in odi's... Otherwise, I think India has got another fast bowling all-rounder... All-thou he needs to work on it like Pathan did...

Shias are not usually as numerous as the sunnis except in shia majority Iran.

India certainly has millions of shias.

At the highest level, you need talent. I can personally tell you aashish was a top specialist batsman and badani a fast bowling allrounder at school level. when they enetredd india colours, it was a different story :). Munaf was taken by Mumbai based on the hype around him being the fastest in country coupled with interest from Sachin.

I really wish they will put end to the spectacle of watching indian bowlers getting murdered every year ! it has been so annoying lifelong.

Mistress of Spices: So bad, it hurts

Chinmayee Manjunath | April 28, 2006 18:18 IST

It's impossible to pick the worst thing about Mistress of Spices.

Is it the stereotypes – exotic India in the strands of saffron, the yellow hues of turmeric or the fiery bite of a chilli? Is it Aishwarya Rai – pensively simpering, beseeching 'her' spices to 'talk'? Is it the range of incoherent, empty-headed characters, like the one essayed by Padma Lakshmi, who looks unexpectedly hideous? Could it be Dylan McDermott, trying to look oh-so-hot but ending up laughably insipid? Or is it just the fact that Paul Mayeda Berges, in all his wisdom, has faithfully translated Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni's passable book into an indigestible film?

This Gangster packs a punch!

Raja Sen | April 28, 2006 20:23 IST

It started out as one of those days when I wasn't particularly fond of my job. Wake up and rush to an Emraan Hashmi film? This was a fate I'd avoided so far, dodging the 'serial-kisser' bullet admirably. But the streak had to end sometime, and so, whining to all within hearing range, I hit the theatre to watch Gangster. Well, at least it has a killer soundtrack.

Mahajan's last journey

1949-2006...

Thousands of Bharatiya Janata Party supporters and party workers gathered outside the Shivaji Park crematorium in northcentral Mumbai to pay their last respects to Pramod Mahajan. The crematorium is located close to Shivaji Park, where Mahajan addressed innumerable rallies in the past.
It was at Shivaji Park that Mahajan often spoke of throwing the Congress out of Maharashtra and at the Centre -- an unbelievable statement to make in the early 1990s. He proved his point, managing first to establish saffron rule in Maharashtra in 1995, then the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance at the Centre in 1998 and 1999.

Slogans like Pramod Mahajan Amar Rahe (Pramod Mahajan Will Live Forever) and Jab Tak Sooraj Chand Rahega, Mahajan Tera Naam Rahega rent the air as mortal remains of the 56-year-old 'Gen Next' leader was consigned to the flames.

Yes, 20-20 lacks some of the aspects of the longer versions, but it may be more saleable in say the North American market. No one has the time to watch a match for a whole day :o leave alone five days. But 3 hours for a 20-20 might be better, well a good ATP match takes that much time .

Well completly agree with statement.
I will definetly back that format in North America. We need to attarct american people. certainly i love this format in domestic level.(i watched a couple of county matches.) Even in india many people does not watch domestic cricket. so this format will definetly attract the audience. NKP salve trophy is the only one whoch gets big audience.(due to D/N match and presense of big superstars.)

50 overs format. certainly players can come up with strategies and game plan and also players aren't going to be in hurry and make rash shots. 50 overs format isn't really boring.

Also saniamania do you remember the match between australia and south africa at port elizabeth last year. (it was classic match. around 970+ runs were made in that match. australia 434/6 south africa 435/9.)

Yes ASP I remember the match.:wavey: Actually I agree with you. As you will see in my earlier post, I never mentioned that the one-dayers are boring. In fact even most test matches are exciting too:worship: .

Rather, what I am trying to say is despite their value, are they really suitable for the times. Do we have sufficient time in our hands to watch an entire test match and even an one-day, despite how excting they are?

Test matches were played in England on a time when an average genteel English family used to have a maid, a cook, a butler, a governess and perhaps other servants. Consequently they had a lot of spare time.

Nowadays, here in N.America, we have to everything ourselves, and not much time. I am a die-hard cricket fan, due to Sopcast/TVu Player/Cricinfo/Livestream etc. there is no technological problem in watching cricket matches from here. Yet, I cannot watch even an entire ODI, ball-by-ball, which however, I managed to do in case of the T20 final.

Ask a N.A. friend in your school/office and they will shudder if you say you want to take him/her to a sports match which spans 8 hours, as in the case of an ODI.
However, if they start T20 here, I can hope to persuade a friend here to accompany me in a match. He/she might dig it, and that way the game might spread here.;)

I have nothing against tests/ODI, but just that today we cannot hope a working individual will be able to watch an entire match. :(

World champions are Australia.( won three times in a row.) Certainly they didn't care about 20's. 20's is just like exibition event for them. Certainly i don't like this format. but yes it will be great for the viewers to watch.( hitting 4 after 4 without and it is quite exiciting but certainly not from players point of view. there will be no stategy at all. it just kind of hit or miss game like darts.) Every one has thier opinion on this event i respect that.
well the true world cup will come in 2011 at home. so i they repeat this performance.(even if they manage to get to the semi-final or finals i'll be happy.) until no drinking or partying.(if they do get overly hyped you know the consequences.)

This kind of cricket needs to be played more in US and China where there is a glimmer of hope for cricket to be succesful.
Well completly agree with that. Also there was rumor 20's cricket will be included in the 2012 olympics. England olympic organization are trying to make cricket an olympic sport.(which is a great idea and it will give us some hope of winning a medal.)

twenty world champions hype didn't last long as india lot thier 2nd odi against australia at kochi badly.(the series 1-0 with 5 more matches to play.)
India is back to reality now.
Certainly terrible bowling performance. in the first odi aus were down 18/2 and made 306 and in the second odi 8/2 to 306. Certainly the bowlers are relxaing too much after first two wickets and losing focus.
