Middle Saturday (got C1 tickets). As many day as possible the second week (up to final Saturday). Certainly no days the first week (any days I've got free will be spent at the Grade 1 junior ITF event at Roehampton). Should also be watching some of qualifying the previous week @ Roehampton.
That reminds me, when & where is the LTA wild-card / pre-qualifying for British players this year?

I'll be there some of the time. My plans are alway last minute, based on when my friends can make it, seeing as how I live so close and there's no need to arrange anything in advance.

Hey Caz! :wavey:

Hey! Gosh! Has it really been nearly a year since we met at Eastbourne?!? Doesn't time fly? My year's been busy and a bit up and down, but, still, I can't complain! Can't wait for RG, Eastbourne and Wimbledon (and possibly Surbition!) Will you be coming to EB again this year? Hope you've had a good year too! :D

I know! It seems just like yesterday.

Unfortunately, I will not be atteneding any grass court tennis prior to Wimbledon this year... massive final exams to study for.

My year has been OK, I should be moving to London in Sepetember, living on Mile End road. :D

You're going to EB with the crew then?

Yes. We've already paid for the same flat as last year, so we're managing to avoid "Mr. Sandman" sing-a-longs, square dances and all such madness for the second year in a row!! ;)

Are you coming to Wimbledon with friends? Queueing? If you want to join me and whoever, you're more than welcome, the more the merrier has always been our motto! ;)

Best of luck with you exams! :D

 Excellent. Same crew, too?

Yeah, I'm going with a few friends, not sure who yet, exactly, but we'll have to meet up for a drink within the grounds, maybe go for a meal or something. Are you just queuing for ground passes?

Thanks.

Think I'm going to be there for tues, wed and thurs of first week, but I'll be at qualifying a lot cuz I'm only live 25mins walk from B of E Ground. I'm living in Putney now so only 1 stop from Southfields, might pop down for a couple of evenings just to have a few drinks on the hill.

Hello ! I've got tickets for the second monday ( fingers crossed it'll be sunny) and I'll try to make it with ground passes once or twice the first week.............but it'd be really nice to watch some of the qualies , how does that work???

Cheers x :wavey:

Astrofer, qualifying is free entry at Bank of England sports ground, Roehampton. It's about 15 minutes walk from Barnes railway station.

Ladies qualifying starts on the Tuesday, with mens starting on the Monday. Unlike Roland Garros, Wimbledon DOES have doubles qualifying. I think that starts on the Wednesday. Like with main draw, they do put the OOP up on the Wimbledon website the night before.

I haven't been to qualies since 2002 but it's a great day if it's the same set up as back then. They give you a printed oop on the way in and it's a really chilled out atmospher. Also, it was dead the day I went despite the weather being really nice.

It's a bit better viewing than when you went ASVfan. As part of the building work for the new "National tennis centre" down there, they've removed those 4 courts surrounded by wire fences near the clubhouse, and they now use a block of four courts (formerly used just for practicing) adjacent to the main row of 12 courts.

Cool. We'll definately have to arrange to meet up for some incredibly overpriced refreshments when you're there, either that, or as you say, go out for more reasonably priced meal, outside the grounds, later! ;)

The RMT trade union have announced today that signalworkers on the national rail network will be going on strike on the following 2 dates:

20 June, from 13:00 for 24 hours (Tuesday of qualifying)

25 June, from 21:00 for 24 hours (the following day is the first Monday of Wimbledon main draw)

This could well cause many cancellations and delays for people coming into London, which will be a big problem on that Monday morning. Shouldn't affect the tubes though.

WTF @ these train strikes. I'm going on the Monday afternoon. Will they be OK then?

bluepastures
Jun 13th, 2006, 08:52 AM
Blocparty, yes it will affect that Monday afternoon, however I'm not sure how much this strike will actually disrupt the trains. Whether it will mean less trains or none at all? I'm going to Roehampton for qualifying next Tuesday and will see how badly it affects my journey home.
For that first Monday of Wimbledon MD, we're going to the Park & Ride instead. There is still a reasonable chance that they may come to some kind of settlement that will stop the strikes going ahead.

All these strikes, tut tut tut they always come at the worst times! The joys of living in south-west london...20mins walk from roehampton, 20mins walk from southfields...perfect. Then again I shouldn't be so smug, I've only got 2 days off work next week and they're already filled with several obligations, therefore no qualifying for me :( !
