Wow Na! I like what I see! Take at least one title and then play the FRENCH well!! That's the slam that she says she's always wanted to play but she got injured last year...she seems very good on clay! GO NA!

She didn't have a problem last year at Estoril or Rabat beating some good clay court players, I got the impression she loved clay...? Best of luck Na :D

Na's more than capable of playing well on clay. Her results last year proved this.

Hopefully she can reverse last year's incident at Rabat... :)

Na is a excellent clay player absolutely, she just need chance to prove herself.
If she didn't injury in Rabat last year, she should have entered the final.
She beat Safina 6-1 6-1 in Estoril last year,so I hope she will have better results this year.

Na's footwork is very good, she can run toe to toe with anybody!

I worry about her physical capacity, coz according to a trainning record, she is the best in everyting in National team, like serving accuracy, jumping, short running, etc. only fall behind in long running...

A match of long duration could put her in disadvange, even though seemingly she does not look out of breath!

So whats your difinition of "a good clay play"?
Winning Tier IV on clay or reaching QF at Roland Garros?

I do think that Na can win a tier in Estoril or Rabat, but i can see Na have a better chance on hard surface than on clay. Coz Na even can not hit a topspin :tape:

Na just came back to WTA tour late 2004, she did not play many games on clay. Also missed French Open in 2005 for injury. In China, there are even no decent clay court! Of course she is much better on hard than on clay.

But Na can hit topspin including her serve. She can deal with topspin well comparied with other Chinese players who all lost to Vivis who can hit topspin very well. But Na beat her easily.

That's interesting. Does the "training record" show all the team, in all the skills? I'd like to see that.

I wouldnt' focus on the distance running. Not every body is made for distance. Probably Sun is best at distance? (A guess.)

It is well known that Na's technique is comprehensive and standard.

I read a report that last year at this time when they gathered in Sichuan, preparing for clay season, some bottles were placed on different angles of the court as targets. Na often hit the bottles, while others missed more.
And Na excels in everything (footwork and gym), only fall behind everybody in 20 minutes long running.
Didn't mention who takes the lead.

Per Na, Zi has the greatest physical capacity.

andrewC
Apr 9th, 2006, 12:41 PM
Na is probably the best all-rounder, in her match I saw vs Petrova, she could even hit some really difficult volleys. I would have to say Sun and Zi look the fittest though, when being slim and defined is concerned.

I think Zi is too thin, she need to increase some weight to strengthen her power.

Na Li is now #17 in "The Race" :hearts:
Zi and Jie are #9 / #10 in doubles rankings

Do you guys think that if the girls will change their schedule after the USO in 2006 (after Beijing and Guangzhou)? In the past, the girls just ended their seasons after Guangzhou but this year things are different.

Jie and Zi have a VERY GOOD CHANCE of qualifying for the YEC in Madrid.
If the girls play more tournaments, they can improve their rankings as they have no points to defend.

One possibility is to play Tokyo Tier III / Bangkok Tier III
Another possibility is to play the European indoor circuit - Moscow Tier I / Zurich Tier I / Linz Tier II or Hasselt Tier III

Modiac.
