View Full Version : Calling all Maria fans: Red Alert!

morningglory

GM is now a forbidden place. If you venture there there is no guaranteeing your safety. For best results GM shall remain a red area until further monitoring shows that the haters find a new fish to fry. If our girl wins Miami, this status shall remain unchanged until the French Open. :o

We are mightily concerned about each and every one of you. Maria fans are currently in dire straits on GM. Please cooperate fully with any further instructions!

Thank you and good day.

haha good one! you can't leave us now!! we need all the manpower we can get here to comfort each other :P
i hate to say this but besides maria, the only "new fish" haters will fry is serena williams and she's not exactly playing..so they are fully concentrated on maria. can't these people just support their favourite players?!

I will try and disarm all the hate threads that I can, minimizing the animosity and allowing time to heal. But everyone must cooperate and not start flame wars. But really I must say, that our girl screwed up real bad this time, I hope she never does this again. :o
P.S I really have 3 tests, but I can study during the weekend... I shall stay around to help a little bit more...

NOW RECRUITING DISARMING ASSISTANTS! Please, we Maria fans need to accept our girl was not classy tonight, and for the haters, it makes them hate even more. Personally I'd prefer Maria had lost the match rather than this. Please help me with the hate threads in GM.

Maria's intensity is hot.

She treats tennis as a sport not some little game where junior high girls go to socialize.
Her intensity is awe-inspiring.

Hope she's rested enough for the final

This happens in sports...
I don't agree that our girl wasn't classy. She did what she always does, kept her focus untill the match was over. She was very nice afterwards and most likely will be in the interview. Some people might have gone over to their opponent, some not. Doesn't make them any more or less "evil". I ain't gonna bother more with the threads in GM. It'll burn itself out in time.
I feel for Tati. Great fightback and made it an interesting match. I certainly don't wish that Maria would have lost. She was the one more in control. Shame it ended the way it did.

Best of Luck for the Final, Maria! :bounce:

I give Sharapova the benf. of the doubt. This isn't the first time that GM has made a huge deal of nothing.

shadowsecret
Mar 31st, 2006, 05:14 AM
"It's just very unfortunate, I feel terrible for her," Sharapova said. "She just played out of her mind in the second set, didn't miss a ball. It was so close in the third, and I hit a shot, turned away, and the next thing I know, the crowd went silent and I turned and she's on the ground... I did not know what happened until the ankle was being taped."

"In the second set, I just focused more and got my rhythm back," Golovin stated. "I overran that ball and after I hit the ball, I felt the pain as soon as I landed on that ankle. With the tape and adrenaline, I kind of forgot about it. It was deuce and I wanted to give it a try. But then, I could feel the pain on both sides of my ankle and I just knew."

Hey- I feel for you.

I know the (cough, cough) feeling. :tape:

What's usually lame is the sudden number of fans out of nowhere in GM (mainly found in their place of residence- under a rock) of the opponent, and then proclaiming player XXX is greater, deserved this win, so happy for her, blah, blah,..

And later - a few weeks or so. This other player [b] huge fanbase is never heard of again, despite that opponent constantly on tour, and in other events. :p

I don't understand why some Maria fans are actually agreeing with the haters.

Let me explain why Maria is successful and you're not. She is focused and goal-driven. Her goal is to win so from the first point to when the chair says "game, set, match" the only thing she is thinking about is winning - like every athlete should - . She is there to win, not to think what she can do to make some whiny williams fans like her.

Some of you here are fucked up! she should have lost?! so what if she didnít' close out the match? she was up a break in the third before Golovin twisted her ankle! and she didn't see how she was doing? well that's nothing new, same happened with Groenefeld, she just stays focused, fake injuries happen all the time, she couldn't let her guard down, you either love that fighting spirit from Maria or maybe she's not the player for you!

The GM going crazy over this? well that's a surprise, she won and she could have lost, no wonder they are losing it.

It's not Maria's fault that it happened, and fans should all support her, we are the only ones who will right now lol

shadowsecret
Mar 31st, 2006, 06:33 AM
well teemu, i, for one, is glad you tried defending her.. it's tough today :)

side note
Fans jeered as Sharapova trotted off the court and booed again when she returned. She said the jeering didn't surprise her.

"It's part of the sport," she said. "It happens everywhere. The crowd needs entertainment."

Maria Croft
Mar 31st, 2006, 06:33 AM
She never really does anything wrong, she's just very focused on court, it's not wrong not showing emotion on court, and not going to see how Golovin was doing, sure she could have.....But she didn't, for me as a fan that's end of the story, but for GM that's just the beginning

I really meant "IF" ;) I mean her choking again and losing the match (which is already really, really bad) would still have been better than this (I really pitied Tati) Of course if Tati wasn't hurt and Maria had pulled through in the 3rd would've been good too

Ok let me say this: Maria very most likely would've won anyways, OK?... but if for whatever reason she didn't, that would've still been better than this. Than wasn't a total choke in the 2nd, I know, but she does it again: fails to get a 1st serve in on MP's

ok people we all need to stay calm. i have yet to go to gm, as i have come to maria's thread first, before i get all over excited, but im expecting a shock with the threads in gm. but firstly maria was probably going to win the match, ie she was up a break and was starting to outplay golovin, by stepping up to the next level. its not marias fault she was saving break point with a brilliant shot, and golovin ran for it when she knew she wouldnt get to it. did you not see marias reaction after the match she said im soo sorry and gave her almost a hug, then she clapped her when golovin was walking off the court. ok when golovin was serving to stay in the match maria had the right to go for a toilet break, and she did, whats unclassy about that, ok it might have been tactical but other players do it all the time, anyway i think if it was tactical it was more to get herself together rather than freak golovin out who served well to stay in the match. and how was it unclassy for maria to change her top she was playing for over 2 hours, and you can hardly expect her to change her top on the court, like the men do. also this break was probably more to prepare herself for the third set rather than dismember golovin, who when maria came back was running up and down the court(which is tactical in itself), also golovin laughed when she won the second set, and maria was clearly upset, and when maria was changing her top they showed maria and golovins reaction after the second set, which golovin was watching. also the crowd did not help they were more roudy than usual and i think got to maria a bit, see the toilet break to gether herself because they were making everything out to be a big deal. in the second set maria tried to do all she could to win, like a true athlete, whats wrong with that she didnt break any rules, and when she was first exscused the bathroom break she looked upset which makes it seem that she actually did need to go to the bathroom. as a maria fan i was delighted of the fighting spirit maria was showing in the third, and i think maria would have won the match but it was close. also i felt terrible the minute i realised and saw the replay of golovin fall(ouch), but again this is not maria's fault she was up a break and playing better. i can think of a lot worse things that players do on court ie pierce with dementieva at the usopen and justine at the aussie. this is not half as bad but all the haters in gm will be using this against her for months. anyway im off to defend my gal..... but dont worry i wont make them hate maria just try to reason with normal posters.

I dont see what the big deal with this was to be perfectly honest and im sure noone else thought it was a big deal until a big masha basher pointed it out n thought theyd all join in ,she didnt go and see how she was? i wouldnt have either if i was the opponent 1/. I wouldnt wanna interupt the medical timeout i would have wanted her to have a fair treatment and 2/. i would have liked to have been warmed up if the possibilty my opponent was to resume play, so what maria did was extremly professional and she did well at the end she spoke to her took her handshake with warmth and said im sorry and looked really concerned and also didnt do her kisses and waves to the crowd in respect and had the decency to walk out with her so i think the bashers should be ashamed really

you should believe that maria didnt play too well but she still won she showed brilliant resolve to be leading in the third set and it was marias turn to show fighting spirit as she broke golovin. i bekieve maria would have won that match she was in her 'fight' 'fight' mood and she was definitly not going to give it up without a fight, saying that either was golovin. maria was not rude or disrespectful she was gracious and sympathising with golovin, trust me when i say ignore the gm haters maria did nothing wrong she made her sympathies with golovin at the net and clapped her off the court. youve nothing to be ashamed about being a maria fan and all maria fans should join together and prove to the gm that maria is not heartless like many make out her to be. there is a video showing all on eurosport website but im not good with links if somone wants to make a link on the gm saying the truth or somthing like that it would be greatfuly apreciated and also it will erase any doubt from masha fans who didnt see the match or are unsure.

you should believe that maria didnt play too well but she still won she showed brilliant resolve to be leading in the third set and it was marias turn to show fighting spirit as she broke golovin. i bekieve maria would have won that match she was in her 'fight' 'fight' mood and she was definitly not going to give it up without a fight, saying that either was golovin. maria was not rude or disrespectful she was gracious and sympathising with golovin, trust me when i say ignore the gm haters maria did nothing wrong she made her sympathies with golovin at the net and clapped her off the court. youve nothing to be ashamed about being a maria fan and all maria fans should join together and prove to the gm that maria is not heartless like many make out her to be. there is a video showing all on eurosport website but im not good with links if somone wants to make a link on the gm saying the truth or somthing like that it would be greatfuly apreciated and also it will erase any doubt from masha fans who didnt see the match or are unsure.

Yuck, that looked nasty (golovin falling I mean), and Maria was really kind to her at the net, thanks for posting the link :)

i finally saw it and Maria turned her back before Tati stacked it in the corner. Its one of the worst things ive ever seen someone do to their ankle, it bent so much that the side of her leg touched the ground  Maria was nice and put her arm around Tati at the net and applauded her as she followed Tati off. Also Part of the explanation of the 2 toilet breaks I feel might be more related to a personal issue that needed attention. Must be that time of the month for the whole forum atm because such issues as this are blown to ridiculous proportions...we should have fun with it and enjoy their stupid, immature comments. The final is a new match and a day one at that which is much better imo.

To all of you  especially in a time like this

I've asked my best friend about the match, about what she saw on TV, and she said " Cheer up Porcupine, I watched the hole match and Sharapova, she was nice to Golovin, applaused her and said sorry to her. Sharapova is not a devil who can ignore ppl's injury, you know it don't you? You shouldn't wear that gloomy face anymore" My buddy even doesn't like Maria much :worship: Mind clear :D

Maria gave an excellent interview! :D It seems most of the bashing on GM was for naught... anyway...
I'd keep this thread buried until another occasion comes up again: I'm guessing around Wimby this year when Maria's lifting up the Venus Rosewater dish ;)

Q. When she was receiving treatment, the TV commentator said you were not showing enough heart for your opponent. Would you agree with that?

MARIA SHARAPOVA: Well, if I knew that -- if I knew what the problem was, I probably would have showed more heart, for sure. But I had no idea what the problem was, so it was very difficult for me. If she was cramping, you know, that's one thing. But I had, you know -- I was trying to look on the monitor right after she was on the ground and they didn't show anything. And then I, yeah...

that pretty much sumarizing everything
Maria did nothing wrong
She didnt saw what happened
and we all know what players are capable to do for win

Mary Pierce.....Coria....Gaudio....many cases
Maria did the right thing, she had no idea of what happened
and she finnaly saw that was bad she felt sorry For Tati
we could clarly see in her eyes before she went to the net
then in the net....then when she walked with tati for looker room...

Of course that when tati fall, she could have went to her
We say that 'cause we saw what acrually happened
BUT SHE DIDNT
and if she keep her self warm, the worse that could have happen was she has to back for the match
but IF Tati wasnt injury...that would just be bad for Maria
so..she did what everyone should do in that kinda case when u dont have any idea about the problem

Come on guys, any of u saw that Dementieva-Pierce match??
we saw Mary took 12 mins FOR NOTHING
ust for take out Elena focus and win the match!!

as I always say....is easy to say what we should do when we are not exactly inside the situation
dont forget that whos's out of the situation always has a better vision...

as far for gm....they just want something to mess up with MAria

She really didn't do anything wrong, as soon as she saw how bad it was her tennis face was gone and she looked really sad and concerned, this board is fucked up and I hate the haters even more now for blowing this way out of proportion! Those fuckers even had some fans doubt Maria!

well the thing i hate about this is some "maria fans" suddenly decided she's not one of their faves anymore.. i couldn't care less though cause i'll always like maria..she's the one who made me like tennis in the first place.. (and her "hype" proves effective for once as they begin broadcasting tennis matches here)

I really meant "IF" ;) I mean her choking again and losing the match (which is already really, really bad) would still have been better than this (I really pitied Tati) Of course if Tati wasn't hurt and Maria had pulled through in the 3rd would've been good too

ah here it is!

She didn't choke! I hate it when people say that just because they were serving for the match, did you even see the game at 5-3?! Golovin played amazing and Maria wasn't holding back on anything :o

Hey everyone, this seems like a pretty good place to introduce myself as a fellow Maria fan who is pretty disgusted by a lot of the anti-Maria sentiment in GM.
I've always just read the boards without posting, but I think Maria could use all the support she can get here against the haters who seem to be having a field day right now in their attacks. Honestly, it really seems like some people have nothing better to do all day than scour the internet for things to beat Maria down with. I'm glad that this board exists where it's actually safe to be a Maria fan.
Good luck Maria in winning your second Tier I title in a row!

summon, i will always support maria whether she's at the top or bottom to..because supporting a player just because she's "winning" is a little crappy excuse to be a fan haha

as far as I'm concerned maria did nothing wrong, nobody knew the extent of the injury and how it would effect her opponent til she played(remember serena at YEC reeled off 4 straight games till the injury became too bad for her)put yourself in either players postion, would you really want your opponent to ask you how you were?I would'nt, plus if you were maria would you think you had the right during a match to go over and ask them if there ok to still keep playing, while this board was down I read the espn tennis board, one poster had said he fell asleep during the match but was woke up by his son to say dad you better get on the forum because it will be all kicking off about sharapova  and that to me sums up the people at the GM can't be bothered to watch a match(and have no real interest in womens tennis) but can't wait to go to there poxy internet forums to stir there shit.

ive had enough of all this...im gonna watch the final then ignore everything else til it dies down. Maria is focussed oncourt and wont budge for anything, we all know this, and sometimes it will attract criticism, we have to live with it. From the finish of the match and her interview we know Maria is not cold hearted, she just has her priorities and succeeding in tennis is right at the top.

You know what ? Whe shouldn't care about all these haters. They will shut up when Maria win next Grand Slam. Even if they don't do that we will know how much their words are worth. Most of us know it right now.

We are watching tennis for joy. We love Maria as any other player. We cheer for her in every single moment and we're happy when she is winning and sad when she is loosing. We know that she is not bad human at all. And I think that living for the moments like Maria's Wimbledon win is worth all this bad words to us and her, here on this board.

I have her poster in front of my pillow, and when I'm lying on bed I'm looking on her and think "I'm really glad to be her fan. I don't think that something more beautiful could happen to me. All her wins mean more to me than stupid words said by people who dislike her with no reason."
