MOVIE INSIDER: Lisa Lopes Biopic Stalled

Fallen TLC member Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes' biopic is stalled, reports Edmonds Entertainment head honcho Tracey Edmonds. "We had that set up over at VH-1, and they've closed down their movie division."

However, says Edmonds, plans will go forth with the project as soon as a new home is found. Bet on that.

The late fiery singer/rapper's tale is just too juicy not to be told. Lopes' on-again, off-again relationship with former Atlanta Falcon player Andre Rison was the stuff of tabloid legend. The irrepressible singer set fire to the Atlanta-area mansion she shared with Rison in 1994, pleaded guilty to arson and was sentenced to a halfway house and five years probation, as well as a $10,000 fine.

Rumors of contention during the making of TLC's 1999 multiplatinum selling album, "Fanmail," seemed to fall mostly at Lopes' feet.

And in 2000, she pushed for each member of the group to make solo albums, so fans could choose the most popular member of TLC. Unfortunately, her solo CD, "Supernova" did a super-nosedive.

Then in April, 2002, Lopes died at the age of 30 in a car accident while vacationing in Honduras, where she'd been trying to establish a charity foundation to benefit the local children. Prior to VH-1's movie business shutting down, the 'Left Eye' biopic was well on its way.

"The script is really, really good and we're clearing the music," Edmonds told this column. "It's going to be a really fascinating story to tell...not only because of the stuff you read in the headlines, but Lisa had a really spiritual side to her." Now they're shopping the biopic elsewhere.

"We're talking to BET about that now," says Edmonds, whose company also produces the BET series "College Hill" and the docudrama "Lil' Kim: Countdown to Lockdown."
