Which teams would you like to see in 2003?

I think a German team should play in Perth! ;)

May 18th, 2002, 07:32 PM
BRITAIN!!! lol - we wish

Paul :D

May 19th, 2002, 03:27 PM
Lol... well, we all know that Anna (allegedly) won't be playing. ;) But not because she doesn't want to, but because there are quite a few Russian women ahead of her.

Perhaps Russia will go for a brother-sister combo of Safin and Safina. I know I'd enjoy watching them.

I think Israel could make a welcome return. Harel Levy and Anna Smashnova are currently their best I think. I'm certain that Anna is, but I'm not sure if Harel is still the Israeli male No. 1.

Anyone else think an Australian team will make it into the event next year? ;)

May 19th, 2002, 07:53 PM
USA Team: Seles & Gambill :)

Yugoslavia !!!!

or Switzerland...

or Indonesia....

or Thailand....

Jun 7th, 2002, 03:33 AM
Seles and Sampras

Pete has been sucky but I don't think he could do any worse than Gambill. Plus I think Pete will be better for Monica in doubles with his game. If not Sampras than I guess Roddick. Agassi I wouldn't mind but I don't see that happening...;) If none of them then I guess Mike Sell better hit the court.

Oh cool!

So Hingis and Federer are playing. Awesome!
I knew that they would play!

Jul 2nd, 2002, 04:38 AM
this is great but
hingis has to get over her injury first
that could take some time

Lady Clarissa
Jul 2nd, 2002, 08:51 AM
 Well Considering the Hopman cup is around Janurary and Martina should be playing in late July, I see no problem with the Injury baaring her from goign to Perth, Unless another Injury flares up.

That would be so good! Imagine Lleyton's face if Kim fired a winner off his first/second serve  Priceless :p

Jul 17th, 2002, 09:52 PM
That would be great lol

Jul 19th, 2002, 02:11 PM
My dream Hopman Cup draw:

Belgium - Kim and Xavier
Slovakia- Hrbaty and Hantuchova
USA - Monica and Gambill
Russia - Safin and Likhovtseva
Thailand - Tammy and Paradorn
Spain - ASV and Robredo
Switzerland - Hingis and Federer
South Africa - Coetzer and Ferreira

Except i dont know which of those teams would want to be qualifying for 8th place!

Jul 24th, 2002, 03:29 AM
I think Thailand team should return to Hopman Cup again!

Tammy "Queen of the grass"

Jul 29th, 2002, 05:25 AM
insider news is that hantuchova wants to play but a male partner is yet to be found and confirmed as hrbaty apparently wants to play somewhere else for ranking points

Jul 29th, 2002, 03:37 PM
She doesn't have much of a choice after Dominik Hrbaty. Karol Kucera is struggling to get back into the Top 100 and the only other name I know from Slovakia is Jan Kroslak, who is ranked in the 200's now. Karol is most likely to get the call-up if he can't enter any of the ATP events with his ranking.

Jul 31st, 2002, 03:24 AM
more news is that lleyton hewitt will probably go and play in adelaide in front of his home crowd this year

Aug 25th, 2002, 05:31 AM
ozfan44 , if you have any news about Argentina's team, can you post it here?

Sep 5th, 2002, 07:05 AM
dont think argentina will play this year but not very sure at all.

Sep 5th, 2002, 07:07 AM
korea is a strong chance dependig on other countries
but i think its more than a good chance

Sep 5th, 2002, 07:08 AM
i also think that thailand may come back again

Sep 14th, 2002, 09:36 PM
I hope Martina and Roger will play in Perth. They were a strong team in 2001. Then they can win the cup again.

Sep 14th, 2002, 11:34 PM
I think Monica and Pete Should Play Together, Kind of Like a Veteran Duo, Besides, They'd Have More Chances in doubles with Petes serve and all

Sep 15th, 2002, 12:35 AM
I think Martina committed to play in 2003, and she said in aninterview that the only doubles partner she would use was Federer.

Sep 15th, 2002, 01:04 AM
I actually read that James Blake and Serena are going to be playing the Hopman Cup together in 2003. I guess that means Monica won't be playing it, which kinda sucks. :(

Sep 15th, 2002, 02:25 PM
Blake and Serena would be fantastic! Dont know how good Blake is at doubles, but they'd have a great chance at winning! :D

Sep 15th, 2002, 06:51 PM
Where did you read that, lethalcandy? Because that would be a good team. They'd definitely have a better chance at winning that Monica and Jan-Michael. James is more adequate at doubles than Jan-Mike, who has only recently stepped up his serve-volley game.

An even more explosive team would be Jennifer Capriati and Andy Roddick, but Jen is committed to that damned Hong Kong exhibition every year. BJK's not involved with the Hopman Cup, Jen! You can play it! Can you imagine the drama every tie with those two side-by-side? Oh, the histrionics on display that pair could bring!

I'd also like France to return with Arnaud Clement and Amelie Mauresmo. France are too good a country to have never won this event at least once. The same with Russia.

Sep 15th, 2002, 07:14 PM
I read it on James' official website, Jamesblaketennis.com. A fan asked how he felt about Venus and Serena, and he said something about how he'd be playing hopman cup with serena next year. I agree that they make a very strong team, and I think they'll be tough to beat.

Sep 18th, 2002, 02:09 PM
I checked out the website last night, lethalcandy, and it looks like James is headed back to Perth for his second Hopman Cup. And it looks like we'll have another World No. 1 in town next year in the form of Serena Williams. Goodee!

Confirmed teams today:

Slovak Republic will be represented by Daniela Hantuchova and Dominik Hrbaty. Cool bananas! I guess Ozfan was right about Daniela being interested in playing after all.

Defending Champions Spain will return with Arantxa Sanchez Vicario and Tommy Robredo at the helm. Looks like Arantxa isn't retiring any time soon and is looking to defend the only title she has won this year. Double cool bananas!

Waiting on the confirmation of Martina Hingis and Roger Federer, and also the Aussie team. I wonder who the Aussie team will be this year. Lleyton and Alicia again?

Sep 18th, 2002, 02:48 PM
omg that is great! So Hrbaty doesnt want the ranking points anymore? I sooo hope this is true and i see him play with Dani next year. I think they'd have a good chance of getting to the final if they're not on the same group as Serena and Blake.
Any idea if Amanda Coetzer and Wayne Ferreira will be back? They've always been a pretty good team and have played here many times.

Sep 18th, 2002, 03:09 PM
No idea about South Africa.

I heard some people saying that the organizing committee couldn't convince Wayne Ferreira to return this year because he was contemplating retirement. But then he went on to play a full season.

Amanda was said to be royally pissed off at Wayne because she didn't get to play again this year. Don't know.

Sep 19th, 2002, 05:03 AM
dont think south africa are coming
gr8 that daniella and dominik are coming
good to see spain defend there title
more announcements soon
ive contacted the hopman cup office asking for some info and i will post it here when they get back to me hopefully tomorrow or the next day.

Sep 19th, 2002, 01:42 PM
South Africa should hurry up and get some new male players so i can see Amanda play Hopman Cup again before she retires!

Sep 19th, 2002, 02:04 PM
Can you really do that, ozfan? Cool. I just assumed that they told people to wait until the official announcement. They usually leak a few names beforehand as a teaser, but then make you wait until mid-October for the rest of the teams.

Yeah. Where are all the South African men? Wayne couldn't have been the only talent over there. Marcos Ondruska played one year and was promising but never really made it. He trained with Wayne in Perth last year (2001). Before Wayne there was Christo Van Rensburg who did all right. Why hasn't Wesley Whitehouse stepped up?

Sep 22nd, 2002, 03:26 PM
Will Croatia play? - Majoli/Ljubicic?

Sep 23rd, 2002, 06:18 AM
no croatia
serena and james blake will play

Sep 24th, 2002, 06:19 AM
Today the Thai's Newspaper quoted that Tammy and Paradorn have comitted to play the Hopman Cup 2003 in Perth. :hearts:

I am going to support them in Perth since I have long New Year's holiday between 28 Dec, 02 - 5 Jan, 03.

Does anybody live in Perth ? Could anybody recommend hotel for me ?

Sep 24th, 2002, 10:40 AM
Yes! Jiro..... Burswodd Casino Hotel!
Its where the players are staying!
And where the matches are being played. Its quite luxurious there so will enjoy it very much! :D
You have just told me the best news of my day so far Jiro! -Thankyou!

The difference with Tammy and Paradorn now is that Paradorn is a much better player then he used to be!

Sep 24th, 2002, 01:00 PM
Yes! Jiro..... Burswodd Casino Hotel!
Its where the players are staying!

Thank you so much V.Melb :wavey: for your information about hotel.

Perhabs it's too expensive since the players are staying there.
Could you please check the room rate ? or
Do you have another choice.

Thanks in advance.

Sep 24th, 2002, 02:13 PM
Jirobkk, the cost of a standard room at Burswood is $350 a night. But just across the road (literally) from the Dome, there's a nice, little place called the Red Castle Motel. The cheapest rooms there are only $70 a night.

Sep 24th, 2002, 02:32 PM
Aloysius :wavey:

Thank you very much for the information about the hotel.

It's big different of room rate between Burswood and Red Castle Motel. And for saving the budget I prefer staying at Red Castle Motel.

Could you please give me more detail if any. ( Tel number, Fax number, map, website or ... etc. ) And how far from the air-port ?

It would be kind of you.

Sep 25th, 2002, 04:06 AM
Oh! Jiro i don't live in Perth.
I just knew that the Burswood was very nice.

You can go and have a look at it anyway because the burswood dome is near by. :)

Sep 25th, 2002, 01:56 PM
Here's some basic information, jirobkk:

Red Castle Motel
200 Great Eastern Highway
Rivervale, Western Australia, 6103
Phone: (08) 9361 6344
Fax: (08) 9470 1626

It is 10 minutes by taxi from the airport and 5 minutes from the city.

I'll try and find the website for you. I've seen it before. I just have to try and find it again. ;)

Sep 25th, 2002, 02:02 PM
Oh, wait! Here we go:

You'll probably find that a single room might be cheaper than $70 a night.

:) Have Fun :)

Sep 25th, 2002, 03:48 PM
Thank you so much Aloysius, :wavey:

It was be kind of you.

I'm going to visit the hotel website now.

Sep 26th, 2002, 01:17 AM
Hello Aloysius, :wavey:

I've already visited the Red Castle Hotel's website.

It's a nice hotel and the rate is reasonable. I'm going to choose this hotel if there is no cheaper and more suitable place.

Aloysius, one more question ?
It would be great if you cloud let me know how can I find out the map of the town ( I mean Burswood town and Perth for city tour sightseeing.)

Sep 26th, 2002, 02:23 AM
and Thailand-Tammy -Paradorn
have entered
possibly USA-Serena and James
Any other news-rumors of other possible teams?

I live in Perth. Yes I dont have to drive 6 hours to get to Perth cos I actually live in the suburb next to the Perth Central Business District. :D Where do you live ozfan44?

What type of map are you looking for? Hum, I'll try and find the map for Burswood but that'll be a bit hard cos the area is actually part of a suburb. To find a Perth map, go to http://www.perth.wa.gov.au/about/perthasia.html. On the right theres a box that says "Other Maps" Choose one of the maps! Happy viewing. :)

I read the article about Daniela coming to the Hopman Cup in The West Australian newspaper some time ago... I know the teams are Daniela and Dominik, ASV and Tommy. Plus for the USA, I thought that it was going to be JMG and Monica again as they told us they wanted to come back again last year... (I should've paid more attention to the article eh?)

Oct 2nd, 2002, 07:47 AM
Hello Cammi,

Thank you so much for your e-mail and thanks for the above post.

I will try to visit the URL you recommended.

It was be kind of you.

:wavey: :hearts: :wavey:

Oct 2nd, 2002, 02:04 PM
monster, Switzerland was also rumoured (with Martina Hingis and Roger Federer).

jirobkk, no problem. As cammi said, Burswood is part of a suburb. If you want a hard copy of a Perth map, you can usually get one at the airport or any newsagency. As for online, I'm not sure. Perhaps cammi's link had what you were looking for.

Oct 3rd, 2002, 01:37 AM
Good luck to Daniela and Dominik. Oh, I so wish I lived in Perth>>>

Oct 4th, 2002, 03:17 AM
hey jirobkk did you get the map of burswood i sent you? i'm not sure if thats what you're after, its actually a road map! but anyway if you or anyone who wants to know more info about perth/western australia, just give me a buzz at lod3st4r@hotmail.com (msn and email) or tennislurver@yahoo.com (no i dont have yahoo messenger)

Thanks in advance. Hello Jiro :wavey: .

You could ask the Thai Tennis Federation or one of the players if they can get you a discounted (or free ;) ) room at this Burswood International Resort Casino :) . It is huuuge, so I don't think all players / coaches / teams will be able to fill it up ;) .

And they have inter-touch high speed internet connections in the rooms :) (http://www.inter-touch.com). So you could post results and photos faster onto this website :D.

You could besides make money at the casino to pay for the room :p .

Oct 10th, 2002, 05:02 PM
Thanks for recommedation, Steveg

You know, my heart was broken because yesterday Paradorn's father gave an interview in Korea during the Asian Games that Paradorn will not play Hopman Cup.

It's not an official announcement. I hope finally they will change their mind.

But I would understand on another hand that Paradorn wants some rest before the next season starts off :) .

Oct 10th, 2002, 09:17 PM
This would be good for Tammy because her ranking is not so good right now. She has to boot up her rank before The Australian Open start. Don't forget guys, Seed in Aus Open is very important for Tammy. It would be much better if she is going to defend her last year poits and earn some extra points. (She can play in many many tours befor Aus Open, can't she?) It would help her a lot.

Paradorn wouldn't get much effect about defending point I'm sure even If he is not going to play in Chennai. Cause he has got enough points to be seed. Don't you think so?

Yeah, I love Tim "Tam"

Oct 11th, 2002, 01:23 PM
Rumour is that Lleyton Hewitt will return to the Hopman Cup in 2003. He indicated at the Davis Cup tie against India, that he would miss the Adelaide tournament. The only possible event he could be playing is the Hopman Cup.

Lleyton was said to have opted to compete at the Hopman Cup to be closer to girlfriend, Kim Clijsters, who was also rumoured to be playing for Belgium at the 2003 event.
Lleyton and Kim's respective partners are most likely to be Alicia Molik and Xavier Malisse.

So far:

Spain (confirmed)
Slovak Republic (confirmed)
United States (TBC)
Thailand (TBC)
Australia (TBC yet confirmed)
Belgium (TBC)
Switzerland (TBC)
The official announcement of the teams will be made on Tuesday 15th October at the launch of Hopman Cup 2003.

Oct 12th, 2002, 07:08 AM
I gotta crush on you, I hope you feel the same that I do. I can't rush enough with you. .....hum hum.... I crush on you, I crush on you.

Yeah, I love Tim "Tam"

Oct 12th, 2002, 06:59 PM
Kim and Xavier!!!!
Lleyton and Jaslyn!!!!

Oct 13th, 2002, 07:28 AM
Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing Japan enter the main draw. It would be good to have a team representing a country from Asia, and after all Sugiyama/Suzuki have tried so many times unsuccessfully in past years.

Oct 13th, 2002, 08:25 AM
I hope Kim and Xavier play as the Belgium team and they don't have to qualify. I think the Australian team will be Hewitt and Pratt.

Hoping for a Kim and Xavier Belgium team and seeded:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Oct 14th, 2002, 05:17 AM
