No thread for it and it's down to the final tomorrow afternoon in Grande Prairie, Canada.

Sweden(Anette Norberg) vs. USA(Debbie McCormick)

The bronze went to Canada(Kelly Scott)

Go Anette :D They are a level above everyone.. What a team...

Can't stand Kelly Scott..:fiery: Her voice makes me want to :smash: her! And they play such a boring game...

Yep, the Swedish team really can step up to anyone. The main reason really is Norberg's calm to pull the best tricks on her sleeves on the decisive moments.
USA are very good but I don't think they go as favorites.
By the way... am I ill if I think Madeleine Dupont is pretty?

Yeah, and she talks so sloooooooowllyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Too bad they lost. I read the 10th end was really bad for both teams.

At least she did a little better than Jen Jones.

The problem for women curling in Canada is that even if we have the best dept in the world, the very agressive teams (Jen Hanna, Jennifer Jones, Kathy King) are not consistent enough. And it's hard to win a world championship playing a defensive style.

Well Kelly should have won today. First, that pick didn't help, it gave USA an easy two. But it's part of the game.

Then she should have won the 10th also, or at least hold her for one. Her first stone didn't react at all, and he second just brushed the guard.

We can still congratulate them on a great fight this week. They didn't play well, but they managed to get pretty far and they could have gone further.

I expect Annette to win again, they are just too consistent to lose to anyone right now. If Debbie's team is on, we could have a fantastic match though. They've already won the Worlds when no one thought they had a chance.

Am I the only one that really likes that team? I mean I agree when they play open it is kinda boring, but Colleen has been playing like that forever and it is still working. I think that if Kelly would make Sasha play a lil more draws, they could become a dominating force on the international stage. I mean they have been the most consistent curling team in Canada in the past two years.

I really like the girls though. They are all incredibly nice, very sweet, I really love Jeanna has a thrower, she might be one of the best out there with Eva L, and I feel like I could be best friends with Sasha!

So I'm rooting for USA tomorrow. I really like the team also, they also look decontracted and nice when they play. You can guess what I thought of Germany with what I just wrote ;)

BTW, did you guys see that no tv channel are showing the round robin of the worlds? Or is it me that is stupid not to see it? It is horrible, I hope they are not doing that cause the team is from Quebec, because it won't bring the viewers....Go Menard, Roberge, Sylvain and Elmaleh :D

Yeah, I'm a big guy but I would still be scared to death playing against her. And even more playing with her  I'm guessing the 2 young girls playing lead and second are having nightmares at night. She seems so hard on them.

No, it was planned that way. TSN never show the round robin when it's not in Canada. You can see the games on CurlTv on the internet but you'll have to pay ;)

And everybody loves Jean-Michel. Everyone agree that he plays a fun agressive style.

Kelly Scott = death.

I hope she retires, learns how to play aggressively at the right times, NOT when she's up 1 in the 10th end, and is looking good.

Typical Canadian here. We expect so much for our curlers. The thing is, we still are in general the best curling country, because we have a lot of great teams, but few countries have better or even teams as us now.

Kelly shouldn't have been in the playoffs. She managed to come back against Dordy, and play a solid match against Ger. And she had a great shot at the final. I think she can still be pretty happy, as it is her first big international competition.

As for the agressive game, I do think she needs to become more agressive, but I don't see anything wrong in her game. For the show, might not always be the most exciting. She relies a lot on the hit and roll. But in the end, it worked pretty well and could have led her to the finals.

As for Canada not showing round robin, that's just stupid. Now I hope J-M manages to get to the semis, I wanna see them play against the top teams

High expectations are placed on Canadian curlers. If they feel they can not manage to compete at a hightened level of performance, than they should not be curlers. They should maybe work at McDonald's or be gardeners. There are other teams that are stronger than Scott, especially at a world's competition, just showing how flawed our current system is... letting a noob enter.

A noob? OMG, could you be even more ignorant? Kelly has won the Scott by winning almost all her matches, she should have went to the Olympics (You think Shannon's performance was better?), she lost to on-fire Jenn Hanna at the 2005 Scott. She has been the most consistent canadian tennis team and she definitely deserved to be there. Kelly felt like she could play at that level, and she proved it by finishing THIRD, a close third, which is 1 place better than *agressive* Jen Jones last year.

So what do you think should be done to create a great canadian team? Do like GBR at the Olympics? Create a *race to the worlds*?

And who are those teams?

Jennifer Jones? (4th last year), Coleen Jones? («only» 2 out of 6, and there are no more team), Stephanie Lawton? (didn't even win Saskatchewan).

Let's face it. Any of the top 20 men teams in Canada can win the world championship on any given day, but the same thing can't be said about the women right now.

Kelley Law needs to make a comeback ;)

Psshh I say all curlers die except Colleen Jones. That way, we'll exterminate the noobs, and what's hotter than an 85 yr old curler screaming "Hurry hard!".

Viva la Grandma Jones.

You are just trying to look *cool* and *funny* in a serious discussion. you clearly have no argument and are basing your analysis on personnal preferences.

I agree Kelly's team right now is the best in Canada and she did as well here as anyone would have done. USA and Sweden were incredible al lweek, and even though Debbie didn't play a great game today, her play all week long made her deserve to be in the finals.

I think Canada is at a turning point in curling. Younger teams are coming stronger than ever, and older teams are slowly fading away. And at the same time, the rest of the world has created some amazing curling teams and even more are coming. I just think the competition is now getting decent. Few years ago, it seemed like it should have been 5 international teams and 6 canadian teams. Now there is a lot more depth with China coming, the young Russian team, Githmark who will do well soon enough in Norway, etc. Canada just needs to keep up, and being in the top 3 curling teams in the world is not failing in any way. And now we are wondering why canadian athletes choke. Stop putting so much pressure on them!

Buddy, it's 1:00 AM. Right now I don't have my speech writing fingers ready, or my mind prepped to go to war.

Kelly Scott tried her damn best. She's a top curler. She choked. She didn't come up with the big shots when she needed to in the final end. That's the only reason she lost. Had she completed those shots, however tough they may be, Canada would be exactly where it should be... looking for 2nd place.

If she feared that her nerves would get to her (like they did at the Trial finals), then she should not have thrown skip stones. She did, and she lost.

I really don't agree that nerves got to her. On her first stone, she took the same ice that Jeanna took and throw it the same way and it never curled. It wasn't execution. On her second stone, she had to get through a port and touch at least the four. She had perfect weight and missed it by less than 1 cm.

Kelly saved the team multiple times when they struggled all week. She had tough draws and made them. It just didn't go her way in the semi. But guess what, she will be back on the world scene and she will proove everyone that her team is there to stay on the world circuit. With a lil more guards, I can see them challenging Sweden any day.

I agree... BRING KELLEY LAW BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Shannon did better the Kelly in a way because the field was better, her team was sick a week, and she managed to come back with bronze...

How did Scotland do?

Mar 26th, 2006, 07:56 PM
And Anette is the world champion.... AGAIN! The triple crown this year: European, Olympic and World Champion :yeah::bounce:

They are head and shoulders above everyone right now.. They are still young so I expect them to beat Gustafsson's records at World's... I don't see anyone competing with them. Of course, they are going to lose sometimes during a week, but when it comes to finals, forget it. From lead to skip, they are just too good!

They are so intense and they manage the pressure so well and god did they have all the pressure or what! Seeing and hearing them singing the national antem was great

How did Scotland do?

They finished with a 4-7 record and obviously missed the playoffs...

HOWEVER ;), they are the only team to have defeated Sweden this week with a 6-5 win towards the end of round robin...

Fantastic win for Sweden! :worship: :worship: They made it a little ugly for themselves with alot of missed shots today though. Norberg and her team are just the best team in the world by a mile though, well done ladies! :wavey: :wavey:
