This weekend in Brussels a foreign man took is own daughter as a hostage, to get her some treatment for a medical condition. In the newspapers they were talking about the movie "John Q" (starring Denzel washington).

A day later there was this documentary on television about a man who couldn't remember anything that happened longer than seven (!) seconds ago. "memento" came to mind...

And every time I saw the beginning of "Armageddon" (1998), it struck me how the burning Twin Towers looked like the real thing.

Do you know any other movies which became reality?

Difficult one

Network (MGM, 1976). Predicted (accurately) network news becoming entertainment rather than hard news, and reality shows. Not bad for 1976.

There are scenes in Independence Day that are very similar to some of the scary tv footage of 9/11 :o

I just read somewhere about a movie called "Wag the dog", released a year before Clinton's sex scandal, showing lots of parallels with the whole affair.

Umm depressingly I remember a news story a while ago of some teenagers who re-enacted the famous ear-cutting off scene from Reservoir Dogs on another teenager, they copied it right down to the music playing in the background and I believe eventually poured petrol over him and burnt him to death...

In fact I remember now, they beat him to death after hours of torture  and they actually said in their statements that they were influenced by the Reservoir Dogs scene...

I think Clockwork Orange and Straw Dogs have both repeatedly been used as excuses/influences for horrid attacks/crimes. (I actually quite like both films though and have never attacked anyone so I think it must be the people who watch these films and then copy them, already have something not quite right in their brains)
