just though this would be interesting. who do you think is motivated the most and has that drive and hunger for sucess?

PLP
Mar 22nd, 2006, 04:20 PM
I would say Justine, Martina , and Maria are the top 3 at the moment, for various reasons, P

i would say sharapova, she tries so hard out on the court and the grunt says it all!

I'd go with Sharapova. She is always so intense on the court and you can tell she never wants to lose. Justine would be my second choice.

Maria
That is a big part of her success (more than her game IMO)

Apoorv
Mar 22nd, 2006, 04:27 PM
I would say Elena Dementieva. not because she is my favourite but if she is not motivated she can not produce such good results with that serve. also she handles her losses pretty well and is motivated to beat that player next time she faces her.

Martina, after her comeback, she looks so determined. If She wasnt motivated, she would never have comeback..

Maria is also very intense and definitely its her determination which gets her through in so many matches..

Maria.

I already said it once: she is so popular, she could just sit down, make some photoshoots and get the money stuffed up her a$$. But she seems to really focus on her tennis and that's what I like when I watch her playing.

Answer is Justine. She doesn't care about photo shoots, perfumes, sponsors.. she doesn't get given shoes with her name in gold on them .... she does want to be Paris hilton ... she juts wants to win, and be the best.

That my friends is DRIVE! No-one else should be winning this poll IMO.

Absolutely Maria. Just watch again Maria's face and hear her shriek, when she won the IW Final last week.It says everything.
And Juju is also a motivated player too, she also fights, runs for every balls and hits them back.Great fighter too, but at the moment Masha is the best! :hearts:

I agree. My list would be Justine first, Maria second, Martina third. Maria is very determined on court but in her matches with Justine, it was clear to me that Justine's experience makes her a slightly better fighter as of the moment. Justine just does not give up and always finds a way to win.

True..very much..But i find her kinda robotic..Too determined with no emotions..Well i guess its just me but she just looks like she never has fun on court...

What does a girl have to do to get some credit around here. robotic? no emotions on court? The girl pretty much leaves it all out there when she plays. She's all about intensity and passion - last i checked, those hardly make a person robotic. And aren't you a Justine fan? Well does she look like she has fun on court? Sometimes even when ahead, Justine looks to be in agony. No offense, like I said above, I admire her fighting spirit and mental toughness.

i think justine is. i mean, obviously! it's not about "determined" you look in court. that way kournikova would win this poll. it's about what you do to get to the top. justine bulked up, knowing full-well that without power you wont win. she went through torture to "powerfy" herself. then she worked on her serve over and over again to generate more speed on both the 1st and second serve. she worked hard on her hardcourt game. her forehand which was always the weaker wing that everyone picked on (duh!all she did was spin it back crosscourt) became a formidable weapon. to win wimbledon she's been working harder on her volleys. and her speed increased too. and lets not forget her mental fortitude. she was, along with serena, one of the biggest chokers out there and she worked on that too.

if that's not drive and motivation at it's best, i dont know what is.

Not sure how the others go, but Justine for me.
She used to go to the fitness room before and after every match, not sure about now.
That's pretty good for me.
Obviously they are also other players that are as motivated or better, but to me, it has to be JHH.

Actually "Marsha" she does get given shoes with her name on in silver or it could be platinum, but I saw them when she played at IW last week they showed a close up of her shoes with her name engraved on them in silver - it was really quite cute - especially on her likkle feet! Ah bless Justine.

I think Maria is close to the top. Her game is imposing, but I think it's her work ethic and desire that wins her a lot of big matches.

Serena used to IMO be the single most determined tennis player I've ever seen (I wasn't around to see Graf and Monica at their peaks, but I'm assuming they'd be up there). I remember watching her at the 2002 US Open and just being blown away by how ridiculously focused she was.

The most motivated and driven player is probably someone who plays for a long time and maybe once breaks the top 100. She plays tennis because she loves it and barely makes any money. Now thats determined and motivated.

Who picked Serena :haha::haha:

~ The Leopard ~
Mar 23rd, 2006, 04:55 AM
Amelie. Not just because she's my favourite player but because I think she works harder on getting her game right than anyone. She's transcended being a power player to being a complete, all-court player, with power just for when she needs it. She's had to adapt her game to avoid injury (e.g. building a powerful, reliable serve without full movement). All in all, no one puts the time in to really develop new skills and to shape her game the way Amelie does. All her work on her athleticism and fitness is on top of that.

true, yes.and whats even more astonishing IMO:martina still manages to do it all with such an ease!!and i :hearts: these smiles from her, that she brings on very constantly!that shows a true sportswoman:she has nothing to prove to no one anymore, but in the same way,she is so motivated!i think, iits that mixture, which makes her so relaxed on court!! :worship: to have you back,marti-baby....
further on,id say maria s.,no doubt.and not to forget, nadia petrova!IMO,shes very eager and driven on success!!

This is an interesting topic, but it is very hard to say who is the most motivated about tennis.

Surely, Maria is highly motivated. She wants to make a bigger mark in tennis.

Dementieva? She still needs to over come the choker, bad serve reputation. She desperately wants to win a slam.

Justine is motivated, but not every time, as Australia seemed to prove (some may disagree.)

Amelie obviously felt she had something to prove, and has now won a slam (although through strange circumstances) and is number one again. Her motivation may last for a time, but then taper off.

Martina? Obviously, driven by her own motivation, since she had accomplished so much and was financially secure. So the motivation for her was getting a major purpose back into her life, by returning to a life she loved.

Venus and Serena? It would seem their motivations lie elsewhere these days. I think they always did to some extent. For them, tennis was the means to an end, not a love affair.

Kim? Hard to tell. Her self proclaimed plans to bail out by the end of next year make you wonder.

Lindsay? Motivated to get another slam, but not exactly slitting her wrists if she doesn't. I suspect she is looking beyond tennis more and more these days.

Mary? Hard to say. She is getting older, it is tougher on her body and she has always delt with a lot of physical problems. I think her motivation is dwindling.
