Ashley and Jamea start off play on the stadium tomorrow and therefore will be the first to try out the replay system in competition. It will be interesting to see how it goes. If I were them I would challenge a call early on even if it were obvious just to test out the system and get used to it.

Yea. I don't think they will be using the replay system much.
Ashley Harkleroad doesn't hit a very speedy ball and Jamea doesn't produce her own pace well.
Unless the linesman are blind there won't be much use of it.
There could be but the calls the linesman made will likely be the right calls.

The replay system was already in use at Hopman Cup earlier this year and got very positive reactions from all involved. You are right, though, that this is the first match of WTA/ATP tours that use instant replay.

I think it will work great. It certainly adds to fairness of the game.

I would love to be able to see this match.

It would be cool if some one could video capture when a call is challanged and then post a link to it on this site

thanks

If anyone is going to Miami, please watch this match and take pictures of the screen when they challenge a call. :D

Now they need to make sure they tell those of us who are watching livescores when a challenge is taking place, otherwise there will be lots of speculation in the scoring threads as to the reason for the pause...

If I were one of them I'd use it asap just to be the first player to use it in an offical match. Who doesn't want to go down in history as a first. Yes Misa was the first to use it at HC but that's not part of either tour.

Actually, this is not true - Hawkeye was used at HC - the first to use it were Peng and Krajicek! :p

It is officially part of the tour! :p The head to heads count... it's just an ITF tourney, like the GS's not a WTA (well that would be kinda hard having the guys there and all). :hehehe:

It is not officially part of the tour. You say it yourself in the post that it is not a WTA event, and therefore it is not part of the tour. And the WTA doesn't count the Hopman Cup as part of the head to head.

err so are the Grand Slams also not part of the tour? THEY are also ITF tourneys! :p And head to heads DO count! (They didn't used to, but they changed it about 3 years ago).

that is still and ITF tourney and so still an ACTUAL competiton... 2 (or 4) players playing against each other = competition! :p

What I mean is when the WTA counts the player's records, they include the Grand Slams but not the Hopman Cup. This is why Venus Williams' record this year is 0-1 for her one loss in Australia.

KRAJICEK, Michaella (NED)

Versus ShuaiPENG (CHN)
Year Tournament Round Surface Winner Score
2006 Hopman Cup 2006 Hard (I) S.PENG 3-6 6-4 3-6
Shuai PENG (CHN) Leads Michaella KRAJICEK (NED) : 1 to 0 *

:p

Venus didn't play Hopman Cup, so I assume her w-l SHOULD be 0-1! :p

But anyway - you can think what you like, for me, 1st hawkeye match will always be China vs. NL at Hopman Cup. :p

Wow that's cool. I didn't know players we're getting ranking points for HC. Just like GS are ITF tourneys and they get ranking points. Cause if they didn't get points it would just be an exhibition. Since players are getting points for HC now maybe more big names will play.

Are you really that desparate to see Kraijcek in the record books?

I mean she's going to do something better I'm guessing during her career.
Is this really something to fight for?

ACTUALLY.... Hawkeye was used earlier in one of the men's Senior tour tournaments (even BEFORE the Hopman Cup). Wasn't it good ol' John McEnroe to use it first? I thought that was kind of ironic at the time.
Just add to the title 'on the WTA tour' then all is fine, not that it's that important...

And no you do not get ranking points from Hopman Cup Solitaire... although I think that was just some irony from your side
In the Head to Head on the WTA tour site, besides the Hopman Cup, the Fed cup matches are also included by the way...

I think Hawkeye is a nice addition to the tour, let's see how it all works out. It worked fine in Hopman Cup.

Hey Guys i ve a doubt..Suppose the ball pitches on the line and point is still in progress, if a player has doubt abt the landing of the ball(outside the line)..Can he/she stop the point and ask for replay or should the player complete the point before asking for replay..

oh and I'm sorry - but is Fed Cup also an exhibition? Coz as far as I know, you don't get points for that, but it also counts on head to heads! :wavey:

Awwww don't be so bitter. :p Yes head to head this and head to head that. An exhibition is an exhibition. If u don't get points for the match that's what it is even if the head to head counts. Ashley vs Jamea will be the first offical match that used this system and Jamea will go down as the first player to use it in a offical match. If u have the time go to http://www.wtatour.com/ and tell me what u see on the front page pertaining to this match. :D Then read the story and eat ur words. :wavey:

So you are telling me that Fed Cup is an exhibition, yes?

And I won't eat my words, coz as I said before, as far as I am concerned, the first match with Hawkeye for the women was Peng-Krajicek. If you wanna think different go right ahead, I couldn't give a stuff really. What we were really debating in here was about HC anyway...

I'm not bitter, just wish people would think before they talk crap... ie like you trying to tell me Fed Cup is an exhibition from your statement above!

Well as long as ur happy thatís what matters :) :secret: This isn't about FC and yes it is an exhibition because u don't get points. Just like HC itís an exhibition with prestige. Have a nice day! :wavey:
