Probably the affect it has on anyone who spends a lot of time in the sun :) I don't know if there's been a study.

I'm not aware of any study or cancer deaths, but there are a lot of retired players who have the leather-face look from overexposure and not only is there a cancer risk, but you look old as hell when you're like 40. No amount of botox and plastic surgery can reverse leather-face sydrome either. I'm not going to name any names.

I saw Iva once show up for a match looking like Faye Dunaway from the "wire hangers" scene and at first I thought she looked silly, but it was obviously a smart move for her and I hope others do the same.

I know more than a few players interested in this, thankfully none are my favourites :p

i know jennifer had that eye thing happen where she needed the laser surgery from looking up at the sun (or maybe artificial lights) too much...

that's about all i know, i'm sure they know well enough to put on loads of sunscreen

They have terrible skin when they get older- look at Sue Barker!

I am actually surprised at how little some players care about sun exposure-- especially some of the Eastern European ultra light-skinned players.

I have wondered about this for a long time. The cancer risk is very high. One assumes they use heavy-duty sunscreen and use it often.

Dechy and Frazier have the whitest skin on tour IMO. They seem to really take care of themselves. Tanning is Bad!

A lot of players don't use sunscreen though because it can clog up your pores and cause breakouts. They'd prefer skin cancer to zits.

I used to get the worst farmers tan of all time, so I decided I'd rather be white all the way around than deal with hideous tan lines. I use SPF 60 and it works wonders, although the stuff melts off me whenever I play. It kinda looks like I've finished giving head to a cow:p

Suzanne Lenglen suffered from over-exposure to the sun. But you wonder how her fondness for liquor effected her overall look as she crept into her 30's.

I remember seeing a video tape of the 1970 Wimbledon final and BJK had tons of what looked like patchy make-up on her face. Did they have sun screen and/or block in 1970???

Farah Faucett is another that suffered from the leathery look. I added her because she was married to Lee Majors, who played Steve Austin (Bionic Man), that dated TV Professional Tennis Player Jamie Summers (Bionic Woman).

I always felt like Margaret Court suffered premature skin aging. Didn't Rod Laver battle some form of cancer???
