Emma LAINE:
Emma is up 12 spots this week after a very good run in Indian Wells Tier I $2,1M for the 1rst time. She ousted 32 seed/n53 Jill Craybas and advanced past 6 seed/n17 italian Flavia Pennetta who retired before falling to 17 seed/n29 Gisela Dulko.

Maret ANI:
Maret continues her rise in the world ranking with no fear...she's now competing in major events such as Indian Wells Tier I $2,1M where she reached the 4th round for the 1rst time. She beat 9 seed/n20 Nathalie Dechy (her career best victory) and 20 seed/n33 Marion Bartoli before loosing to 7th seed/n18 Ana Lena Groenefeld.

Meng YUAN:
Thanks to Meng, China breaks a new record: counting 5 girls in the Top 100! Meng ran through the 3rd round at Indian Wells Tier 1 $2,1M as a qualifer! She ousted 23rd seed/n38 Catalina Castano before loosing to 10th seed/n21 Dinara Safina.

Vania KING:
Vania is now one spot from the Top 100 reaching the 3rd round at Indian Wells Tier 1$ 2,1M as WC! She beat 16th seed/n27 Klara Koukalova in straight sets before falling to n70 Li Na

Bethanie MATEK:
Bethanie is the 2nd american good news of the week reaching the 2nd round at Indian Wells Tier 1 $2,1M as a qualifer. She lost to 28th seed/n45 Sania Mirza after a tight 3 sets match (7/5 in the 3rd set). She's up 10 spots from her best and 5 places from the Top 100.

Ivana LISJAK:
Ivana celbrates her 19 y.o birthday last week and had a pleasant present as tennis pro: reaching her highest ranking. At Indian Wells Tier 1 $2,1M, she made it to the 2nd round as a qualifer falling to 6th seed/n17 Flavia Pennetta. After that, she travelled to Orange competing in a $50K challenger where she reached the 2nd round ousting 2nd seed/n92 Melinda Czink before falling to veteran and eventual semi finalist n144 Anne Kremer.

Ahsha ROLLE:
First of all, happy bithday Ahsha who celebrates her 21rst anniversary today ;) . 3 days ago, she reached her highest ranking at n141 after reaching the 2nd round of the qualies at Indian Wells $2,1M with a victory over 11th seed/n117 Kateryna Bondarenko before loosing to experimented Tatiana Poutchek.


Aravane REZAI:
Another girls who celebrated successfully her birthday last week! Aravane broke the Top 150 a couple of days after her 19th birthday. She has been competing on the european challenger tour for a couple of weeks. First, she played in Germany at Biberach $25K where she reached the semi fianl loosing to 7th seed/n190 Kirsten Flipkens in 3 sets. The week after she flighted to Gran Canaria $25K where she won the title upsetting 1rst seed/n107 Conchita Martinez Granados and 7th seed/n177 Romina Oprandi. In final, she gave any chance to WC and come back player Magui Serna! Aravane decided to play challengers to get as many points as she can with the goal of being accepted in the Roland Garros Main Draw.

Alla KUDRYATSEVA:
Alla played the Canarian Challenger Tour and made it really well at Las Palmas $25K reaching the final falling to 7th seed/n190 Kirsten Flipkens. Alla is now solidely member of the Top 200 and she's been up close to 50 spots since the beginning of the year.

TOP 10:
Amelie MAURESMO n1 (+1): Amelie is back to the Top wold position and she really deserves it considering her results: winning the Year Ending Championships, winning 3 tournements in 2006 included her 1rst Grand Slam in Australia.
Maria SHARAPOVA n4 (+1): Maria is up one spot this week with a trumendous victory at Indian Wells Tier A $2,1M (her 11th career title and 1rst on the year).

TOP 20:
Ana IVANOVIC n16 (+3): Ana is back to her best ranking this week reaching her 2nd quater final of the year at prestigious Indian Wells $2,1$. She fall to 4th seed/n8 and eventual runner up Elena Dementieva in 3 sets.

TOP 50:
Martina HINGIS n26 (+6): For her 1rst american tournement since her come back, Martina has been making an impressive run reaching the semi final! She ousted 2nd seed/n4 Lindsay Davenport and 10th seed/n21 Dinara Safina before falling to 3rd seed/n5 and eventual champion Maria Sharapova.

TOP 100:
Emma LAINE n55 (+12): see above
Anastasiya YAKIMOVA n92 (+12): see above

TOP 150:
Aravane REZAI n142 (+38): see above

TOP 200:
Kirsten FLIPKENS n 156 (+33): After a long injury, Kirsten is back on the tour with pretty good eager. She's now closed to be back to her best ranking (n145 in september 2004). Due to her ranking, she prefers to play challengers right now to rise in the wold ranking and multiplying victories for the confidence. She's been competing in the Canarian challenger tour for a couple of weeks: she first won Las Palmas $25K upsetting 5th seed/n180 Aravane Rezai and 6th seed/n184 Alla Kudryatseva. The week after, she made it to the semi final with a victory over 5th seed/n163 Yulia Beygelzimer before loosing to clay court specialist WC Magui Serna who is back on the tour.

Yes Martina keeps impressing everybody with her excellent results. For the 2nd time since her come back, she's been beating a top 5 player (1rst n4 Maria Sharapova in Tokyo and now n4 Lindsay Davenport last week!).
Right now, Martina is n4 at the Race so potentially wualified for the Year Ending Championships! She won 20 matches for only 7 losses!

In fact, Maria Kirileko reached the 22nd rank in the world at the beginning of march (March 6, 2006)! So she keeps her best ranking this week, waiting for breaking it for sure ;)
