View Full Version : Venus: After Miami And Beyond...

I know Venus originally decided not play any tournaments immediately following her Asia tour because of her doctor advice. At the time I did not think it would take this long.

I have had many questions the last couple of months about why it took her so long to come back.

Was she still nursing the injury or did she just take a break?
Is she entering this tournament because it is in Miami, her home turf?
After that many sightings in LA and NYC the last couple of months, I doubt she is still in school or is very busy at her company, so why has not she entered any tournament until now?
Does anyone who frequent her official website know if she plan to join the tour full time… or she’ll keep this part-time schedule which does not really do any in terms of grand slam preparations

To further expand why I created this thread....
Reading Venus in Miamai Draw.. thread and other threads about Venus,I sensed a distinct mood of low expectations, and adjustment to expect from Venus performance of ansecond tier player. That was not easy to take, but it seems to be the reality of the moment.

1. Probably both
2. If it wasn't a major tournament, she probably would just wait for the clay.
3. Just because she goes out at night, doesn't mean she's asleep during the day  I wonder how many of Venus's critics are social people themselves. If you're a social creature at all, especially around that age, you'd know that you work your ass off during the day, then get crunk at night. Its what makes it that enjoyable, the fact that you can have fun after a long day's work. The idea that Venus & Serena somehow sit around all day getting ready for partying is ludicrous. I mean what else would they be doing at 11 o'clock at night? Practicing? Yeah, right.
4. Venus has played a full schedule one time in her entire career, I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Lets get real here. This is her first tournament since Aussie where she lost first round. She has no match play. The more she plays the better her year will eventually be but to get there she has to play. Its really simple.

I just don't consider her a threat at this tournament because she has no match play.

She really should have started her year with more preparation before the aussie.

Why not end your year after the US Open and then start your preparation for the new year in decemeber with touraments in january and then the aussie? With the lack of touranments Venus plays that would make the most sense. then she would get a long break and be ready for the new year.

My question still is, will she play more?

Unlike preceding posters, at least you recognize that she needs to play more, on the tour, in order to get better.

I am not sure if you are joking or being cute.
Do you really think her schedule so far is comparable to her past schedule when she used to play 10-13 tournament a year?

Read some of the posts I was refering too, it is good measurement of how her fans have been feeling. I understand it is nice to support everything Venus or Serena does, but there comes a time when even fans need to stop all passion and use more their head than their heart.

We have been dealing with this about Serena the last 2 years. She does not practice and is not match ready, and people still thinks she is going to beat players who have put in the dedication, time and physical effort.

I think she will continue to play, I think she still enjoys playing and still wants to win more titles. The question is, is she willing to have some bad losses and keep on playing through that, in order to become more match tough...... or will she just keep taking breaks here and there and hope for the best in each tournament.........

Thank you for your mature intervention.

I don't think she can keep doing the same thing and expect different results.

Dude, she's been injured.

Well, I like Venus the person. Not Venus the tennis player. As a 19 year old, quite frankly I see what I do and see what Venus does and I'm in awe of how she would give up her best years to give up her life for tennis. Personally I applaud her for trying to maintain a bit of her youth and still be amongst the best in the world. I don't think people get that. As a young person, I'm loving my youth right now. I wouldn't give that up for any Wimbledon trophy. The fact that Venus can do both...I mean kudos to her. I really think that people put too much stock into a stupid tournament here and there. These are her best years! The fact that she can have fun clubbing and going out to premires, and still hold the best title in the world, I mean damn girl. Do your thang. I just like to see V happy. Whatever that is, she should do it.

We have been deaklign with Serena the last 2 years. She does not practice and is not match ready, and people still thinks she is going to beat pelayers who have put in the dedication and physical effort.

How do you know that? Do you follow her around? Honestly stop making presumptions. All I know is that Serena has been trying time and time again to comeback too soon, so now shes playing it smart by taking time off and enjoying her life while at the same time trying to get her tennis together.

I think you should use your life savings to follow Venus around the world until you get the answers you seek because it's JUST that important. I mean how can we enjoy tennis until we know Venus will change. I mean we can't be expected to wait and see. :tape: Can we?

yet you keep asking/posting the same questions/opinions and somehow expect the answers/responses to you to be different? *sigh*

There isn't much press on where Venus will be playing. The only tourney that I know of after this one is Charleston. I just love this stretch of American Tourneys. Just wish the damn American players would stop loosing so early. I can say that because I am a fan of all them

I hardly think that the defending Wimbledon Champion will pack up and leave 2006 behind.

That being said, I think we'll see a whole lot more of Venus in the coming months.

Sidebar: Venus interviews better than any other WTA player.

No, it's the reality of ya'll's!

Just like at Wimbledon where suddenly
after she won the same folks talking zip their
lips quick or jumped back on her bandwagon!

Venus keeps it close to the vest which leave some
of ya'll not satisfied in your curiosity to want more.
People want to freak over every damn thing
and it's just whatever at this point!

Venus will do Venus as always and certain folks
here will go with the wind, which ever way it blows.

This is what happens when people invest all their time and energy in one fav. As much as I love Venus the tennis player , I love the game/sport more. Heck, I'd watch any obscure players to get my fix-- case in point following the Las Vegas Open  Anyway, if at this point some of Venus fans cannot accept that she will continue to do as she pleases, they're in for mucho dissappointment

Perhaps she is doing exactly that, only it is not miami she is gearing up for , perhaps she plans on using the clay season to prepare for the wimby. Obviously she has decided she is a part time player.

It may come as a shock to some but tennis does NOT need the W. Sisters, or anyone else, to survive. Ture, when they are in the mood, they are wonderful players but there are many other players just as enjoyable to see play. People who really care to play, unlike the Sisters who manipulate the game and their fans for fame and foutune.

:sobbing:

I's soooo stupid and manipulatable.....eh, what's 2 + 2? Venus told me it was 5 and I believe every word that comes out of her mouth. She also told me to send her money cause she needs it to show up to the tournament and that she would add me to her prayer list but I dun think I got manipulated again cuz she ain't playing Miami and my prayers weren't answered. :sobbing:

Woa is me, lord! :rain:
