thanks so masha has to face venus in quaters, hmm if venus gets that far it wil be tough for maria but i still except masha to win in the hing kong exhibition match this year lindsay beat venus 2 and 2, and venus hasnt won a match all tear so i still expect maria to get to the semis and i see masha taking out kim too.

Oh crap. I wanted Amťlie/Maria and Kim/Justine SFs (mainly because I never got to see Amťlie/Maria match-up), but this way I can get my All-Belgian final (with the opposite outcome of Toronto :p ).

Oh, just hope everyone's ok, especially Justine and Kim. Good luck :)

Yeah me too. Maria is coming off a tourney win playing very well. Myskina also gives Venus trouble and Hantu likes to try and play out of her mind against Vee.

hmm if venus gets that far it wil be tough for maria.

no offense to Venus fans (i'm a huge fan myself) but how will beating her be tough for Maria ? Maria's playing like a maniac lately and Venus has shown us nothing. They should pencil Maria into the finals now.

When they have played on hardcourt, it isn't like Maria blew Venus off the court when they last played on hardcourt. I think the difference was a break of serve in each set.

At this point I'm just taking it one match at a time. I strongly suspect that she has been engaged in other things and didn't devote much time to tennis, therefore I'm not raising my expectations. I just hope she got over the injuries and get some matches in. What ever happens I still love her and hope she improves for future tournies.

I think it will be tough solely because she hasn't played since Australia. However, if she's trained enough and is healthy she could easily play her way into form and win the title. I'm guessing somewhere in between, Quarters or Semis.

Honestly - it is obviously a tough draw for Venus, but I just love seeing Venus play against the other top players. She barely plays against Mauresmo, Clijsters, Justine, Sharapova, or many of the other top girls.

i think this tournament will set the tone for the remainder of this year for venus. after only playing 1 tournament match this year, if she does well under the pressure with all of those great people in her draw, watch out! if she buckles, i'm gonna get worried. i love you venus, rock it out!!!

I am just hoping she shows up healthy and ready to play. Lets face the blunt reality that she in no way has a legitmate chance to win this tournament. She has not played any touranments since the Aussie Open and she didn't even win a match there.

I will be surprised if she gets by the first round and will take each match as they come. I just hope she gets enough match play for her next tournament and so on and so on.

I just wish she played more. Serena? I think her injury is worse than we know and that most likely her career is over.

I just wanted to add that really there is no pressure on her. No one expects her to win. I don't. She hasn't played at all really and this could be considered the start of her year. After such a long layoff with no match play...

6/4 6/3 both matches, fairly close but still a two set win, even the 7/6 6/1 Wimbledon match (who many of you call it a spank) match the same amount of games lost by the winner of the match. I think Maria is playing much better now, she is running much more balls down now. Certainly if Venus wins (over Maria) i will be very surprised.
But i think she has a enough clear path to reach the quarters confortably.

I dont think Serena is injured, she is just out of shape to play, she probably wants to get in full shape to comeback strong... probably she is having some eating problems and she is not following an strict food eating the kind of what a woman playing a profesional sport's require of.
Serena's problem seems to be in her mind more than her body, i think once she realizes that she has an acomplished tennis carreer worth giving another chance to focus on and dominate, i think she will be back. That mindset of the start of 2002, when she claimed that her goal was to put apart some names in the ranking that should not be ahead of her... i think that's when she will step in and play again.

Maria did beat Venus last year in the Quarters I believe. Rest assured that won't happen this year. Maria has played a lot of tennis; and when it comes time for Venus to give her the business, she won't last. Especially if Venus serves well.

Um it was the semis last year. And Venus hasn't played any tennis at all this year. Maria is match tough. Venus isn't.

I filled out my women's draw and I have Venus loosing to Maria, but I also have Maria winning the whole tournament. Maria is playing well on the outdoor hardcourts and IW was a confidence booster for her. Venus will scrap her way through to the qtrs playing some great tennis and some sloppy tennis. Venus will have to be at the form she was last year at Wimbledon to have a shot at an in-form Maria. I wish Venus all the best in her efforts in Miami, but her lack of matches is not going to be an advantage for her.

Good luck to Venus. It is a challenging draw but as long as Venus is healthy, and playing decent (no 60+ unforced errors), i think she can get some vital and much needed matches under her belt, and maybe build a good run.

All i want, is THE DEFENDING WIMBLEDON CHAMPION to play some matches, and hopefully get her condifence and game back up there. She hasn't won a match all year, so that is the first goal, and she hasn't played a good match, that is the next.

She has a shot at the title, you can never ever count out Venus, she is the under doggy here... and if she wins the title, it'll be a great great bonus.

Best of Luck Venus. Play well, get back up there.
