View Full Version : Who will dominate the Clay Court Season?

GracefulVenus

Of course my first pick would be Justine. She is looking good so far this year and is the current Roland Garros Champion. :worship: Looking forward to seeing how Sharapova will look on clay this year, she is also looking very good so far. ;) Hope Pierce will make some tourneys. Of course I pick Venus....................What...................Wh o else did you think I was going to pick :) She doesn't have such bad record on clay and was a Roland Garros Finalist (Serena beat her in the final). Who is your pick and Who are the women known for there clay court game that are currently on the tour?

Im hoping Mary can really translate all her clay preparations to the court this year and rack up many points! Of course if Justine if healthy, her success is a given. If Mauresmo stays healthy as well, she will have a superb clay court season. If Venus does well at Miami, I see her doing well on the clay as well, she has always done well on the surface. Other players I think will have success are Dementieva and of course, Clijsters.

Amélie, Mary and probably Justine .

I'm expecting to see some exciting Justine - Amélie finals over the next months.
Besides those two, Petrova, Dementieva and Clijsters could do some damage too.

But real dominance? Don't think so.

Amelie' is a solid pick. And she is #1. :worship: Really excited for her and her fans. Hope she does well on clay this year.

Justine will just like last year. Might not go undefeated on clay but she will win at least two titles. One of them most likely being the French.

the top 4 on clay should be jhh, mauresmo, clijsters and hingis.their all quick and can play some good defense which is needed on clay.i think jhh and amelie will take the majority of clay court titles this year

Nobody will be able to get near Justine on clay. Mauresmo will probably make some finals, and win a tournament. Martina should make the SF or better wherever she plays. Ditto Kim. Maria won't do anything. Lindsay will play sick.

Hmm, I'm not so sure about Justine absolutely dominating this season. She's always been streaky on clay (obviously winning more than losing), and I think she'll play less this time considering what it did to her in '05. She will definately win some titles and is a huge favorite for RG, but I don't think she'll live up to ALL of it.

Clijsters, Mauresmo, Dementieva, Hingis, Pierce, Venus, Schnyder and Sharapova are ALL great players, and have good results on clay. ALL of them could take down Justine on a bad day, and a few IMO (Kim, Momo, Hingis, Venus) could beat an in-form Justine. I think there's so much more competition this season for RG, it should be an amazing slam.

It's time for Maria Kirilenko to breakthrough. She is not the most powerful player but she has some variaty and strategy, which is good for clay court tennis. Hingis will also do well. On clay, the power of big babes is somewhat equalized.

Justine will do very well on clay as usual. I will be cheering for her, but won't bet money on her this year awaiting confirmation of her physical conditions.

Justine and Kim (if both manage to stay injury free which seems doubtful).

I think Martina and Amelie will provide the best competition to them.

if Venus can get back to her Us Open 2005 form at the least, she'll definitely be a force on the dirt.

Same with Dementieva, Mauresmo, Hingis, Schynder, and obviously the cheater.

I really didn't mean to leave out Elena. I think she could beat Justine, especially at RG (she seems to like upsets). I think if Venus plays well on green clay, we could easily see her make the Quarters or farther at RG.

Justine, Mary, Kim, Martina, Patty, Svetlana, Nadia, Anastasia, and Amelie.

Its obvious why Justine and Mary are on the list because of last years performance at the FO. You can never really count Clijsters out of any tournament when shes on. Martina wants this title, and shes said it, and maybe her feel will help her. Patty is an obvious choice because shes amazing to watch on clay courts. You cant count Svetlana out, though it may sound crazy to consider her a contender. She has lost to both the past 2 champions of the big one in TOUGH matches at the FO. Nadia does something on clay that is weird for her style of play, but she pulls it off. You cant count Nastya out because shes a former champion of FO and she will have that belief. And then of course Amelie. She may be at the very top of the big clay tournaments, but she may still have nerves at the FO. She did win the AO, but it wasnt on her home turf, and shes always struggled in front of her crowd.

I'm hoping Hingis wins a tourny or two on clay. I wouldn't mind it being Roland Garros either.

Not sure how Hingis plays on clay. She does have steady groundstrokes, and we all know power is not needed on clay.

Justine has an undefeated streak going on clay. 26? matches or something like that.

If she's healthy, she should dominate again.

maybe not a total domination this time, but a healthy Justine seems the most likely choice to me... we'll see about her health...

Don't hate on Justine because she has done better in the majors, total tournaments won, and winning percentage than Venus, since 2003....last three years.

And don't use the usual injury excuse because they've all be injured and sick.

Venus pulled her abe muscles in 03 ..... serena had kneee surgey... sorry if that didnt happen justine would have never seen half of the success shes been able to accomplish. Is it her fault they keep getting hurt.... no... but at the same time it did happen and ppl need to realize that.

Venus -7 wins
Justine- 1 win

Look at her RG record. And I meant in matches I guess: I know she wiped the floor with everyone last year, but it wasn't always with her best tennis. If she plays like that this year IMO she will lose much more; if she plays better, no reason why she can't dominate.

im sorry but im getting sick of seeing this.oh justine didnt win cause venus was injured or didnt play good didnt try.same with serena maria not deserving of her win in wimby cause serena didnt supposedly TRY.im serious its like everytime someone wins a tourney its because venus and serena played bad or just didnt try because they are the best to ever walk the court.im sorry but i just got sick of seeing this crap jhh is by far the best clay courter then amelie and kim.thats bullshit that people think they wouldnt have success if venus and serena were fine.

Well, Justine is the best player on clay, but will she be able to dominate? I'm not sure if it's possible to win everything like last year.

I really don't see why everyone is doubting Justine. She has been playing great tennis for the first half of this season, especially against Sharipova (they both played well in the matches); and she's the current Roland Garros Champ. Hope she is healthy for the Clay season. :sport:
