Another record broken today, Wika is in her first ever SF after beating Cohen-Aloro 75 61. :worship:

Plays Rezai in the SF. Not expecting a win but who knows with Caravane or Vika for that matter?

Been around for a while and still so young. Hope she can win the semifinal against Rezai. :scared:

Straight sets loss. Oh well, onto Paris! Gotta wait longer to find out who she plays as she drew a Qualifier. I just hope it's not Jarka.

Expected loss, but this weeks' result will likely be enough to get direct entry in the USO.

None of the qualifiers scare me that much, although a couple would be quite favourable; Scheepers, Ondraskova, Gullickson, Meusburger.

Wika's got Awesome Zuzana, should be a piece of cake.

A win would be a big boost to her confidence. She qualified for the AO, had a reasonable draw and was smashed. :o

Lets hope she fares better this time.

Wika won 62 64, a few problems with her serve early in the 1st set (got broken twice) but she didn't seem to have much problems after. Well done! Will play the winner of Peng-Martinez Sanchez.

Wika lost 63 36 36... Came back from 0-2 down in the 3rd to 3-2 and then collapsed once again. :(

Such a shame! :( What a massive chance that was to make the 3rd round.

Still, not a bad tournament, baby steps.

Really strong draw in Marseille. Andrea is beatable and then 2nd round shouldn't be a problem either. Good luck, Wika!

Wika is the top seed in Wimbledon qualies. Already through to the 2nd round after beating Gerasimou 36 63 64.

Would be a good result if she made it through, would mean she's been in all 3 Slams to date for 2009.

Why does she have to qualify though, isn't her ranking well inside the 100 now?

lynxy
Jun 16th, 2009, 11:48 PM
I don't understand it either. The WTA site say she is ranked 80 . 12 qualifiers, 8 wildcards, 128 in the main draw... I thought the top 100 had automatic right to the grand slam.

Dexter
Jun 17th, 2009, 07:22 PM
She was out of top110 when the cut-off was. Anyway since she didn't play any tournaments on grass, playing in Roehampton won't do her any harm.
She beat Albanese 60 64 today and will play another American Shenay Perry for the right to play in the MD.

It was so windy today that Wika had to stretch a lot at the last moment to balls but she was giving it all she could.(6-0, 6-4) Quite a number of forehand errors but I couldn't read how much it is related to her form. Regardless, Shanay is relaxed on grass and has had good runs on it before so this opponent is very dangerous for her.

Dexter
Jun 18th, 2009, 12:07 PM
Wika has just destroyed Perry 60 62. Had a MP for 60 61. Good preparation for the MD. Ideal scenario would be 1st round against someone easy and then 2nd round against someone from top20-30, like Kanepi or Cornet, that she could possibly beat.

Sharapova in the 1st round... perfect. :help: At least we'll get to see her on TV. Ajde!

Langers

Oh man, 1st round vs Sharapova. :o Probably the worst placement she could have received. :o But as you said Dexter, at least we should get to see her on TV now...

Won't even bother posting potential further round matches, if she can get past the first hurlde it would be an amazing achievement.

Good luck Vika. :D

You’re more positive than I am! :p

I was hoping for a weak opponent in 1st round, then an out of form seed in the second. ;)

Hi, I`m new here.:)
I follow Vikas career already since long time.

Well done for Qualifying, Vika!:yeah:

Tough draw, vs Maria Sharapova in 1st round.
But at least Vika will be on big court and on TV.
Good for her experience to play vs Maria Sharapova in Wimbledon.

Good luck and show your talent, Vika!;)

Here something interesting from Wimbledon site:
(Finally I know what happened when Vika gave Clijsters a walkover in Wimbledon 2006.:p)

Viktoriya Kutuzova from the Ukraine clinched a place in the Wimbledon draw inside an hour, winning her third and final match 6-0, 6-2, against Shenay Perry of the USA.

For the 20-year-old from Odessa it was a relatively straightforward performance as she ran off the first ten games before Perry stopped the match being one way traffic.

"I played pretty well the whole match," said Kutuzova. "I feel very happy with my performance. She did not play her best tennis. But you need to be focused for three matches here because all the players here are really good."

With a ranking of 79th, Kutuzova is the highest placed player from qualifying to move into the main draw, where she has played in three times before -including 2006 when she was due to face Kim Clijsters of Belgium on the Centre Court.

"Something happened," she said. "I ate too many strawberries and all these spots came up on my arms and my back. I could not play on the Centre Court because of that and was defaulted. So no more strawberries for me."

Kutuzova will play Wimbledon for the fourth time while Perry misses out. She started slowly today and the points sped away from her with Kutuzova confidently serving out the first set with an ace.

When Perry fell behind 3-0 in the second set she shouted: "Give me a break." And when a net cord beat her at the start of the final game she repeated:"I said a break."

Perry did save a match point but could not prolong the inevitable as Kutuzova won on her next chance."I like grass," said the Ukrainian. "I like quick points."

57 46... But a good showing from Wika, just a shame she didn't challenge a couple of times. At least twice the HawkEye showed that she would've won the pt. :(

Vika:sad:
Maria Sharapova was tough 1st round opponent, but Vika played well.
Impressive winners. Vika has amazing groundstrokes.:yeah:
But she must improve her serve.
Vika is very talented.

Hope Vika gets a better draw at US Open.;)

She is in the qualies for Cinci

She is seeded 16 and will play vs. Jill Craybas 1st rd.

Good luck!

Vika playing Pilot Pen 2QR. She was *4-2 up but like 6 DFs or somethinglike that in her last two service games handed it back over. :o. Cmon Vika!

Against Clijsters first round, joy. :help:

I guess once again the only positive is that it might be a TV match, doubful in Australia though. :o

Good luck Vika! Nothing to lose girl!

Dexter

Vika is out of form and has no luck in the GS draws. :( I was hoping... erm EXPECTING a new career-high soon and it doesn't seem likely at this point. :(

Viktymise
Aug 29th, 2009, 11:03 AM
Well, it's another TV slot I suppose.

Considering how shitty her form has been lately I think she'd lose to most in the MD anyway, so at least this way we get to see her been given a beatdown. Otherwise it would be another 15 DFs + disaster vs another mid-ranked player.

The reason she has been playing poorly is because she is struggling with a back injury...she said it has really been bothering her...hopefully things will be ok for her against Clijsters
