View Full Version : Maria: "don't mess with a truck". LOVE this girl !

MisterMan

from espn.com:

During a quiet moment of Sharapova's match after Hingis seemed to be gaining momentum in the second set, a man in the stands behind Sharapova yelled, "Martina, she's getting tired."

Sharapova said, "That kind of pumped me up and I hit two winners in a row. I looked back at (him) and I'm like, 'I'm tired, my butt."'

The 18-year-old Russian with a virtually flawless and quite colorful English vocabulary smiled and added, "So don't mess with a truck. You're going to become a pancake."

She even won the fan over.

"The funny thing was, he started clapping for me after that. I think he got scared. Then when I was waving to that side (after winning), he's like," Sharapova said with a smile, demonstrating how the fan sheepishly waved back.

I think this appeals to teenagers, but please speak up if any older people like this type of thing, I would like to know.

Maria is great. It is nice to hear a player turn around an outward negative comment by an opposing players fan and make them her fan.

Maria is much more intuitive and intelligent than what some give her credit for.

Yes, I'm over 25 and I think it's great. I like to see Maria handling heckling this way from a fan, that's a good sign of mental strength and fighting ability. Every player should have an attitude like this if a fan starts to heckle them, if they don't, the fan could get under their skin and make them lose points.

I can't stop laughing, i am developing quite a fan club. Who'd have though i'd become so emotive, and in a way influencial. Name mentioned in just about every post. How to use this.. *ponders*

Well, anyway - i think Edward, yu have enough sense to look at the bigger message and connotations of the original post. What exactly is so speacial about 25... do people get hit by maturity and sense at that age... when well i wish many of you would grow up quick, and join this early bloomer.

I am not over 25, but if you associate older age with maturity and wisdom.. well then.. i gladly join them, as i feel the same way. These comments were not great... and i'm disturbed by the number of people who were practically worshipping them.

"Tired my butt" and comparisions of the self with a truck don't seem like the workds of mature young women. THINK AABOUT IT EDWARD. Think - make it a first. Listen to those words. They are not hilarious and great!!! Yes she silenced an offensive fan, but really i expected a little more style. Well can't say i'm surprised.

Admittedly, you do receive more attention than you deserve.

I think its fairly obvious you have an obvious and obsessive crush on Maria Sharapova and you seem to be in a sad state of denial about the whole thing.

As for her words....she's 18. She is not exactly a woman yet. She's a kid, and she has a teenage attitude. Her comments reflect this. And she achieved what she set out to do. Go figure.

But anyways...keep up your incredibly effective jinxing of Marias opponents. Her fans appreciate it. :yeah:

really, that continous claim that world spins around Serena is getting tired.

Serena is a fantastic tennis player, but she isn't God, not everyone admires her and drools over her all the time.

You need to seriously stop bringing up your precious in every post. Unlike your ideas of Ana, firstly she's not #1, secondly she's not likely to win any slams soon, thirdly you are actually a one of those fans who gives people like Ana a bad name and fourthly, stop being such a stupid retard.

Take this advice immediately or else you'll be banned, again or you'll get trouble in real life due to your stupidity.

Had it been their fan saying the SAME thing-- we would have seen an opposite result.

I disagree, if Amelie or Elena or Venus for example, said these things... i'd not think the were great. I'd cringe. The comments alone are laughable, in an embarassing kind of way.

Ignoring the nonsense text - it's quite interesting how posture etc makes her look like Yuri when he shouts Vamos. Infact, She's very like Yuri hairy arms aside.. behaviour wise i mean.

I agree. First of all I don't dislike Masha so it's not because of her that I think it's childish.

And if a player I really did like said it I would be embarassed for her.

I know most of these ladies don't get a great education, but hope they can get mentally mature somehow, anyway.

from espn.com:

Thanks for posting this! :) :yeah: I saw it yesterday and cracked up at Sharapova's feistiness. Good for her for standing up to that heckler! :worship:

You need to seriously stop bringing up your precious in every post. Unlike your ideas of Ana, firstly she's not #1, secondly she's not likely to win any slams soon, thirdly you are actually a one of those fans who gives people like Ana a bad name and fourthly, stop being such a stupid retard.

Take this advice immediately or else you'll be banned, again or you'll get trouble in real life due to your stupidity.

The comment is just fine, I don't find it funny, funny but it's good thinking and at least Maria actually proved her point :)

Firstly, I bring my 'precious' in every post because she is the sole reason why I've joined this dump. Secondly, Maria isnt #1, and the one hit wonder is not likely to win a slam any time soon either - JuJu owns her on Clay, Venus/Serena on grass and the Russians on hardcourt best she can do is win one or two tier one's and that's about it. Thirdly, how I support Ana is my business, but yeah you have a point the only reason why I first stopped liking Maria is because of arrogant fans such as yourself. And listen to this - and everyone else who is threatening to bann me. I DONT GIVE A SHIT. Ok so stop with this feeble crap of "take my advice or I'll ban you balh blah balh... duhh ... I used to watch brief sport news stories just to see a tiny snippet of Maria, I even used to tape them and watch them over and over. omg how sad does that sound - and i was constantly on her site - you know the pink one that has a pic of her holding the Wimbledon trophy, I'm not sure if it still exists, and when she played Ai Sugiyama in QF'S and Davemport in the SF I was literally clinging to a cross, I was wearing at the time just so divinal intervention could help her somehow win the second set and then fight it out in the third, and i loved her grunt at that time, she was really awsome. Somewher along the way she just lost that girly innocent charm and became this Truck and she lost a really loving fan. But its not like I hate her - I just dont cheer for her n e more. My mum on the other hand is a MAD Sharapova fan really, this is off topic but we were watching the PLO final last wknd and i was bitching about Sharapova - and mum got really agro she was like "get out ... why are you being so mean - look at her pony tail and her earings she's so cute... what's your problem" then she said "why arent you like her" what a retard seriously.......

I'm 48 yrs old, not a Sharapova fan, and I liked the way Maria handled herself with the heckler. What's an objective way to judge whether her handling of the situation was good or bad? The obvious answer is in the result. Maria came out on top in every possible way. She won the point, the match and even won the heckler over. Well done.
I feel sorry for people who are so bothered by a player's success that they look for any little thing to criticize. Isn't it healthier and more mature to accept and respect each and every player's accomplishments? They all bring something that can be appreciated to the sport.

Oh well, I guess it was bound to happen eventually. I'll settle for agreeing 99% of the time if you will. :wavey:
My last paragraph wasn't directed an anyone in particular, nor was it limited to this thread. It seems that Sharapova and Serena Williams draw constant fire regardless of what they say or do. Maria or Serena could rescue a young child from a burning building and somebody on this board would shout, "Shameless publicity hound!". It gets pretty petty sometimes.

I read your last paragraph to say that the only reason people don't like this comment is because we don't like the player, we are petty, etc. That is not the reason everybody writing here doesn't like this comment. It is becasue we think it is childish, and would not like any player including a player we like to behave in such a way. By writing your last paragraph you ignore this point and paint a brush saying we don't like Maria, when we clearly presented other reasons.

I was talking about a pattern, and this thread seems to include posts that fit the pattern. I'm not just talking about Sharapova either, the same goes for Serena. If Serena gets photographed going into a grocery store, the result is a flurry of posts: "She should spend more time practicing and less shopping." "Look how fat she is!" "Hey Serena, stay out of the grocery store!" Then someone will post, "Don't get me wrong, I'm cracking on Serena's weight out of genuine concern. I really like Serena, even though she's a fat, lazy, publicity whore. No, really, I do like her. I just want to see her make better decisions."
I read Sharapova's comments and couldn't find anything objectionable. Then, I read people's objections and still don't get it. It seems a bit disingenious to me: "No, really, it has nothing to do with the fact that it's Sharapova (that skinny, one slam winning, bad skin having, no-talent bitch). I'd be livid if any player referred to herself as a truck or made a reference to her back-side." I can see somebody thinking the truck comment is sort of stupid, but what's the big deal? Maybe I'm wrong, but I thing 90% of the posters attacking Maria's remarks wouldn't think twice about the same "behavior" if it was a different player.
Oh well, I'm sure I've been rubbed the wrong way by something a player did or said when others didn't get it and thought I was nuts. Maybe we can agree to disagree on this one? I'm sorry if I offended you. Seriously.
