She will have won both Tier I's of this year. Isn't that amazing? :worship:

from being the most talented player to never win a tier 1 at the start of 2006, back to back tier 1's is incredible. :rocker2:

this bitch is crazy, i'm so glad i've been a true blue fan through the years.

For someone who has taken years to have finally won her first tier 1 title, it is amazing. If Elena wins the title tomorrow it will be a huge accomplishment for her. It will also be great for her fans who have waited many years to see her win a big title. Stop being so negative about things.

I don't mind her winning Wimbledon/US Open but just not French. :)

Both of Tier I's came up soft.
If Elena plays like she did in the Tokyo final, she'll win this also.

Amazing is how she can lose or struggle playing girls from about #100 in the ranks and then she beats Hingis 62 60, Justine in 3 sets... oh we can count and count
Best of luck to her tonight! Udachi! :yeah:

GL, the draws were soft, but Elena has not had a soft draw...

Mirza, Na Li, Ivanovic, JHH and now Maria... it could be a potential Slam draw IMO.

Our girl is a fighter, I hope she can really do herself and Russian tennis proud.

I have to agree... being a fan through her drop into the 20s and then back up after Amelia Island has been crazy. She kept my interest going while Martina Hingis was out :)

if she wins this, it will be her biggest win ever. winning over an in form ivanovic, henin, and sharapova back to back to back.
her draw is something you'd see in a slam.

That plays in her favor too..

Exactly ;)

Elena is much tougher than anyone Maria has faced yet.

The courts are suited to Elena's game. Elena can move faster than Martina and hit it harder. Elena's recovery, mentally and physically is the ?

Elena needs to be fresh in her mind so that she can execute her game and drag Maria all over court.

It will be intense, no doubt :)

Elena has lost some huge all Russian finals.
RG, USO, and KC in 2004.
And I don't think these 2 like each other.

Those three were true all-Russian finals.. I don't think that Lena's perception of Maria are any similar to what she feels about Nastya or Lena L. or Sveta.. This match will be no problem.. in that sense..

But after what was said in 2004, I think whoever wins will enjoy this title.
Look for a big reaction at the end.

I think she's used up too much mental energy here in IW to win.

I was so impressed with Dementieva's fight against JHH. Even when she was down a double break in the 2nd, you always got the sense with her, she wasn't giving up. And in the end she pulled it out. Her movement was amazing yesterday. Win or lose today, it's been a great tournament for her, but I'd love to see her win today!

I think they both dont really like each other which will make for a good match, kinda like serena v capriati cause u can kinda tell they dont like each other. I dont think Lena likes the fact that Maria won a slam b4 her aswell and their last match in Zurich was prety intense with good rallies, i have a feeling there will be a couple of stare down today aswell and some grunt wars too. It will be pretty ironic if lena wins cause she will have the only tier 1s this year and she's never won a tier 1 prior to this year and also going from losing 1st round of the Australian to this situation were we are even talkin bout this is pretty amazing and if she wins tonite i think she is definatley gonna win a slam. Come on, i know what im talkin bout i predicted she would beat henin

Elena is so unpredictable with her form but if she wins the first two Tier 1s of the year we'll have to start considering her for grand slams

A'noon All,

"Yelena: I can’t wait to play Maria again. We never seem to end up playing each other. I've been working on my serve - and it is getting better and better. If we were to play in this tourney - I would beat her with my groundies, and her serve is not all that anymore.

Ana: Maria is overhype. She has good game - but not ze' best.

Maria: Hi ladies. Did I hear my name?

Ana: I don't know - can you understand Russian?

Maria: Very well thank you - and I can spell it too - so try spellling this. (Maria starts speaking in Russian) Translation: You are only as good as your last win ova any given opponent - and I've beaten you two the last time we've played.

(Other players start coming into the locker room and someone yells - "Yes - catfight")

Yelena: Get real girl. That was in 2004. We are now in 2006.

Maria: (LsOL) and says - ladies do we realllllllllllllllllllly want to give an account on who won what? Because, I have won my share and made the semis in three slams last year and one this year. How about you two?

Nicole Pratt: Ladies - could you please speak in English.

Maria: No - they want to see if I have Russian heart and I want to prove it. I can give just as good as I get in my native tongue. I love mother Russia and have a Russian heart. Finally here and now, I can prove it."

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^

LOL - something must have told me - and my mind didn't fool me as it pertains to Elena having the hots to play Maria again. After all - it has been almost two years since they last played.

If Elena can serve better than usual - she has a chance. Maria will pounce on any short serves whether they be first or second. That is one of her strengths - and she knows it, and she has always attempted to change the direction of the ball. She is pretty good at that.

But......................IMO - Elena is geared up to play Maria because of her head to head record losses against her - and because of that Russian thing - if indeed there is one. Plus - Elena is one of the purest fighters on the tour. Her win on yesterday - reminds me of Serena coming back to beat Kim when 5-2 down in the second in OZ 03.

Elena has to ensure she has no mental nor physical breakdown against Maria, and that she shows up w/her wheels on. Maria usually shows up w/both wheels greased and aligned - so she'll be ready. Yet - Elena is a better mover - and if she moves Maria around enough - then she has a great chance. And a duh!

Funny fact about Lena:
She said some time ago (last year) she doesn't like to play in USA etc and we all know she loves Russia and Moscow blah blah blah ;)
Still her best results came from USA ( US Open Final and 2x semis, Miami, now IW) kinda surprising ;)

If the match go to three sets Maria will not be able to keep Elena rhytm 'cos Lena has showed that when she is on three sets matches(almost all the time) she still has a lot of energies an in maria's case when she is on a third set she just look tired so she will not be able to hold on

GO LENA :bounce:
