Masha just said during her ESPN post game interview that she would prefer to have another opportunity to avenge her recent losses to Justine.

She don't want that. Not if she wants to actually WIN the title.

I really respect that, because as a competitor I feel you should always WANT (to play against) the best. We all should agree that Justine is at this time stronger than LenaD, so I like that Masha wants to see where she currently stands against the best competition available.

So true! Maria said she really enjoys a challenge and since she's my fave I'm glad she feels that way.

That's a great attitude from Masha!
Ju and her always have great matches... Ju hasn't reached the finals yet so keep our fingers crossed ;)

The way Henin served last night Maria has a great chance to beat her (as does Elena!)

I agree :D
Players should be eager to get the opportunity to play great players. Not try (or wish) to avoid them.

No she won't. Maria loves playing the game and she loves improving and trying to beat the best. For her a loss is not so much a disappointment but a challenge to do better the next time.

You probably don't understand that concept.:wavey:

yeah i think its great for maria to say, and if she plays as well as today she has a great shot of beating either justine or dementieva. but her serve will have to improve but i think thats possible as i think the wind was affecting both players serve.

She don't want that. Not if she wants to actually WIN the title.

Funny how some people (especially non-fans of both players) are bent on seeing an ever-lasting pattern based on 4 or 5 matches. For Pete's sake, Justine is my ultimate fave and like most of her fans out here I never have that cocky attitude about her.
There are several players I respect enough to think they can beat Ju on any event and Maria and Elena are two of them.

That's always an attitude that you have to admire in a competitor. Federer on men's side has the same attitude (although in his case a desire to find a challenge is very easy to understand).

Yeah...I'm sure Maria would relish the challenge of playing Justine again, she wants to beat the best.

yeah well its great to see a justine fan being not so cocky and arrogant, and i have no doubt that justine will show respect for any player whoever she plays, and she will not underestimate maria going into this final, and hopfully masha can win, once she doesnt get any bad line calls!

she can lose easy, but she can also have her "good day" ;)

My point was also that - as a rule - cocky and arrogant statements against Masha are not made by Justine fans on this board.

Not quite true, if you check up on posts further to the Dubai final many diehard Ju fans spoke up for Maria, her game and her personality.
(Ok, off to watch the match, it's about to begin I think)

yeah its going to be a great final, and i agree that especially maria(and justine) regularilt get attacked on gm by haters, but when you look at that they are both the 2 best in the world at the moment i think, so really its just jealousy, i hate to admit it but justine is a brilliant player and is the queen of clay, and maria is also a great player and almost queen of grass, and has a great future, and i think its unfair that both players and fans are objected to so much jealousy and hate! i also believe that the whole aussie open final thing was unfair on justine, so she retired so what she was dieing of the pain, and didnt want to worsen her sick and injury prone body, amelie should be grateful she didnt have to meet a fit justine like maria did!
anyhow im looking forward to a great final be it between justine or elena to play maria i dont care cause i think masha will win!
and remember...
lets go masha!!!
LETS GO!!!

I like Maria's attitude :yeah: she goes for it. Just after she lost against Justine in Dubai she said that she already looked forward to their next meeting so she could avenge her loss. that's the mind you want to have if you wanna become the greatest.

It would be better for her to play dementieva and win then play justine and loose. If she wins then she will get much more respect for winning a big title, if she looses everyone will say she still cant win a big title since wimbeldon

Mar 17th, 2006, 09:52 PM
like serena, maria cant win either.

with the haters that is.
previously, when she said she was glad to be in the top 4-5 and consistently making semis, they said that it was a poor attitude. now when she says that she's eager to play against one of the best players around, they dont even want to give her a chance at proving herself. i think this is a great attitude from maria and it's a huge step in self-improvement.

that being said, GO justine!or lena!
