Since when has Sonia O'Sullivan been Australian!? Looks like she is competing for Australia in the Commonwealth Games. Fair enough, I guess....BUT she also wants to compete for Ireland in the European Championships!

Should this be allowed??

Well, that's new to me
I think she should only be allowed to run for 1 country. Its only fair in my opinion

Maybe she can represent two countries at the World Championships :cuckoo:

I agree, in other sports there are limits to this.

 what a weird ruling. imo if you have represented one country you should stick with them and not swap between the two when it suits you.

Well she's definitely not Australian but I guess if the opportunity is there to take part in two major events this year she can't be blamed for taking it. I guess if there's a "real" Australian with a qualifying time who has been left out of the squad to make room for her then it would be hard to swallow for that athlete.

it doesn't bother me that athletes change countries after they get married or whatever, it's the fact that Sonia is going to run for Australia in the Commonwealth Games and then later in the year switch back to Ireland for the European Championships that doesn't seen right or very fair to the athletes who have committed themselves to Australia or Ireland. pick one and stick with them Sonia! :p

yeah that's what I think. It's crazy to be able to switch countries when you feel like it...

Doesn't matter what our Sonia does. She has legendry status here in Ireland so we understand if she wants to represent Australia.

it's Sonia's legendary status in Ireland that makes this decision seem so weird. to me, Sonia is synonymous with doing laps of honour of the track after a great race draped in the Irish flag. is she going to drape herself in the colours of Australia if she's successful at the Commonwealth Games? and then go back to the Tricolour at the European Championships? she's got some brass neck on her if she does imo ;)

I'd be highly surprised if Sonina doing laps of honour with any flag gets to be an issue at either games.
