View Full Version : This whole 'reputation' feature is DUMB!

Well i was away from this board for a few years and then come back and it has this reputation feature.

What a stupid development!

Last time i checked this was a public forum. For people to disagree with something you have posted but are too gutless to actually post it in the thread and give you a bad rep with some stupid one sided comment - ridiculous!

If you feel so strongly about your view, post it in the thread and we can discuss/argue about it - how a forum should operate!

If this must remain, at least incorporate a reply feature to the reputation comment cause quite frankly there are a few people on this board i would have liked to respond to but couldn't be bothered finding one of their posts or sending them a private message to do so because once again this is a public forum to express opinions and debate issues with input from various sources!

I like the idea of giving out good reps. Bad reps just cause drama. Granted drama can be fun esp when I'm not involved. Plus I don't bad rep people no matter how stupid their post is (Unless they bad rep me first  )

How does it create drama?

You are the only one who knows about it so all it causes me is frustration... but then i get over it really quickly!

You're right, something about the good reps is positive, knowing people agree with certain views can be good but again, people could just reply with messages of support.

So how do we get rid of it?

i guess because some people take bad reps too seriously and they confront the poster in a thread

you can hide your repuation level from other posters, but i don't think you can actually turn off the feature.

I kind of like reps..whether they are green or red. I don't care what color they are as long as the person leaves an interesting comment.

Well i haven't seen too much of that but at least if this takes place in a thread it's there for all to see.

I actually think the Administrators should disable the feature across the whole site.

Well if it must stay, i think we should at least give out Awards for 'posters who bad rep for the most stupid reasons'.

I could dish out some nominees from my rep list! ;)

The reputation feature isn't too different to someone making a comment in a thread. It's just private. Maybe it's pathetic that people send bad reps for whatever reason, but at the end of the day it doesn't actually psychologically damage anyone does it? I hope not...

I couldn't really care less if i get bad reps as long as someone has a valid point but some posters around here really have nothing better to do or dish them out for the most stupid reasons and quite frankly i think they should publicly post their opinions for all to see the dumbness!

I honestly don't care for bad reps. The ones I got so far where because I said the true about some players, like when Jelena Dokic did 5 no-shows in a row and I made a comment on how unprofessional that was, and of course, I got badrepped by a Dokic fan.

Anyway, just don't care for them. Ignore them, that's it. Who cares about it? This is not real life!

How can you find out reputation ranks of others, and find out where you are placed? I don't see the point of having a number of points, and not knowing what it means.

You can order the Members List by Repuation. (Under the Quick Links menu in the navigation)

I agree - Good rep is a great feature unlike bad rep. It's just ridiculous how someone would give me bad rep just for saying something about being not impressed by Hantuchova, or supporting Davenport in a match vs their favorite! Or just because someone is unable to share my point of view... Yeah, good reason to give a bad rep! Basically I'm cool with this, except I am wondering how it can affect my online self. Can people be banned because of getting too many "bad reps"?

Last time i checked this was a public forum. For people to disagree with something you have posted but are too gutless to actually post it in the thread and give you a bad rep with some stupid one sided comment - ridiculous!I thought that when I first saw the feature as well. It must have been around a year before I even looked at people's comments. But then I looked and discovered that people write really nice things! And even in the few cases where they write negative things, often it's better that a mindless negative comment comes in as a bad rep, where it can be ignored, rather than be part of a thread where it can ruin a whole discussion.
If you feel so strongly about your view, post it in the thread and we can discuss/argue about it - how a forum should operate!Forums ultimately work as their users want them to work.

If this must remain, at least incorporate a reply feature to the reputation comment cause quite frankly there are a few people on this board i would have liked to respond to but couldn't be bothered finding one of their posts or sending them a private message to do so because once again this is a public forum to express opinions and debate issues with input from various sources!Still, the private message system IS there, so you have the means to respond to reps if you like.

If reps to affect what you post, then you're either learning something, which is good, or you weren't that committed to the opinion you expressed. and certainly, as nice as 'I liked what you wrote' is to read, it doesn't ADD to a discussion. So the feature has it's place.

This was also my initial reaction when I discovered this feature, especially when the cowards misuse it. I do understand your outrage with such people who don't take part in the discussion and their only means of communication is a red dot without an explaination. My way of dealing with such people is to "blast" :fiery: them privately or publicly and they will leave you alone.

For the most part, the "good" comments far outweigh the "bad" therefore I've learn to accept it. Now I do enjoy reading the kind comments even from posters who's fav I don't care for.
