and jelena jankovic in the semi's if jelz makes it :(

When I look on the draw, I see her playing against Momo in the semis, but first of all she must beat Kuznetsova in the second round. Let's make smaller steps. According to the tough Draw, a quaterfinal would be a great result.

I see her beating Kuznetsova and making it to the quarterfinals, maybe even the semi finals. Go Makiri!

Maria and Nastya lost 6-2, 6-2. Not a good two weeks in doubles. :(

I agree. Definately not a good 2 weeks in doubles. Probably because it just isn't a good fit. I don't see Maria & Anastassia ever mounting to anything as a doubles team. We need Maria & Gisela to play in the same tourney more often.

Makiri is playing at the Moment vs T. Li. A difficult task for her, the chinese players are not that easy. The score is 1.1 right now with T. Li serving. Good Luck Masha!

Sorry for writing so much, but I need to tell you the result from Makiri of today's match. She easily defeated Ting Li in straight sets with 6.2, 6.4. She made 18 points more than her opponent, wich is great! Congrats Masha. Next up could be Kuznetsova, what a match!

Well done on a solid start to the tournament Maria now she will have to raise her level straight away because Svets will probably await.

Looks like Makiri will have her hands full as Svetlana put a hurt on Zheng, giving up a single game. :scared: A Makiri win over Svetlana who is in fine form would be amazing! So let's hope for the best! Wish I could follow the match along with some of you, but I'll be waking up when this match is over.

:sport: :sport: :sport: Go Little Masha! :sport: :sport: :sport:

Solid win to get things started. Maria can beat Svetlana. It isn't going to be easy but it is very attainable. In fact, I think she's gonna pull it off. Good luck Masha!!

Sveta will be tough but Makiri has been very good lately and has a very good chance to beat her I think.

Well, Maria is playing at the moment vs Kuznetsova. She has lost the first set 4.6. Kuznetsova is serving at the moment.
Good Luck Makiri!

.....The match is over and Maria has lost in straight sets with 4.6, 6.7, but it was a tough fight and Maria did a good job. The tourney is now over for her, cause as we all know she lost early in doubles as well.
Nevertheless, it has been not a great week for Makiri, but it was definetly a good one!

Tough loss for Maria. Still, she's getting there. Pretty soon, she'll be winning these close matches against the top players. 5 of her 6 losses this year have been to seeded players, the exception is her loss to Martina Hingis at the Toray Pan Pacific Open. So, Maria now is beating the players she should beat. This wasn't always the case. So that is a positive step. First step taken. Now it is time for her to break thorugh and take that next step. The next step is the one that will get her into the Top 10.

Just followed the entire match on the Wednesday OOP thread.

What an excruciating loss for Maria, but at the same time, it's great to see how competitive she is against the top players. She's young and will learn a lot from these types of matches. I usually worry that she would get blown out, but she hung in there tough adn forced Sveta to fight.

In addition to blowing a 4-0 and 5-3 lead in the second set, she was up a break 3-2 in the first and also had at least three BPs at 4-4. I look forward to the day she wins these matches. She should not be discouraged by this performance.

Anyone know if she was committing UEs or DFs in the key moments? Or did Sveta really step it up on the big points?

Although she lost im really Happy with her progress last year against the power players she was getting wiped of the court, this year she really is holding her own with them and really pushing them to the limit. Well done on another good tournament Maria
