View Full Version : Vaidisova's Big Wins

With so much hype surrounding Nicole Vaidisova to win big titles. Looking at her career activity, she has had some noteable wins, but what startled me was her number of top ten victories. I only know of two. The first came over sixth ranked Myskina at Charleston. Myskina was in a terrible slump and Nicole was possibly the favorite to beat her in that match. At that time, the majority of the top 50 probably could have beat Myskina. The other was over ninth ranked Nadia Petrova in the Bangkok final. We all know about Nadia in finals. What I am wondering is, is Nicole expected to just come out of nowhere and beat a handful of top players and win Wimbledon? Keep in mind, she has wins over Sprem, Schiavone, Jankovic, etc. but it is hard to see her winning something big yet. What are your thoughts on this?

wait and see. i noticed a lot of people are quick to jump to conclusions both positive and negative. for the time being i think vaidisova is a bit overrated for the reasons you gave, but she is still young, so who knows.

people develop at different rates.

what she has done so far if she just stays at the level shes at for the next few years, wins a couple of small wta events, is..she will give herself the platform to one day make the big leap in to winning tier 1 and slams. it takes confidence to win slams and winning many smaller titles (hopefully) will give her alot to take in to the bigger events when shes older..

I really dislike her on court attitude and demeanour, but I have to say she's doing a great job and doing extremely well so far when you take into account her age and tournament restrictions. She's on course for a top 10 career.

She beat Sharapova in WTT, and Dechy who at the time was close to Top 10. Most players dont have these kinds of wins when they are not even 17. Shes done pretty well. Also most players dont have 5 titles before they turn 17

To be honest most of the young girls coming up don't really have that much talent. With the Vets still hangging around it's going to be really hard for them to do anything. Yes they may beat one or two of them in early rds but it's hard to beat 4 or 5 of them. So I think as long as the Vets are still around they won't be doing to much of anything.

Dechy was never top 10 material, ever. And the win over Sharapova was right after she won Wimbledon. She wasn't exactly on fire at that point.

That's an understatement. She wouldn't give a damn about some WTT match after winning Wimbledon.

I think she is overrated but she is still young only 17 in April.

Let her prove you were wrong.

Actually, Vaidisova develops faster than Maria in all respects. Wins more tournaments, has more wins over top 10, is higher rated at the same age. However, to keep up with 17 y.o. Maria in rankings (forget a GS win - that's not gonna happen for her this year) she'll have to crack top 10 after Wimbledon and be in top 5 by the end of the year. I don't see her in top 5, let alone to win a GS this year.

It's easy to see her potential if you watch her terribly terribly horrible play against Mauresmo at AO.

nati is definitely top 10 material!she just needs to believe more in herself!but i have the feeling, after commenting on your other post, you are one of these"i desperately look for something negative in anything"posters, which is quite sad. ;)

and for nici:IMO,many underestimate her, because of her age.but i am firmly sure, she will go all the way over the next years.she has a brain.

and i have no worry either with the commercial sorrow.because the young girls nowadays already grow up that way,so they get used to it very early.so i think, she will handle the pressure quite well.

come on,nici-baby!!  :bounce:
