Amelie can't catch up until after Indian Wells, because of her loss to Kuznetsova

Even if she wins Doha next week, she has SF points to defend and can't overtake Kim if I'm not mistaking

Even though Momo deserves that first spot, I'm kinda glad Kim can hold onto that #1 spot a little longer :p

You are actually mistaking...
Amélie has now 3435pts / Kim 3566.
Amélie will lose 33pts this week (minus 88pts from Doha SF last year -which took place one week earlier- plus 55pts of Dubai QF)
That makes 3402pts for next week.
If she wins Doha, she'll get 195pts and have 3597 - which will be above Kim!

SF pts for Doha came off this week as Doha was played week of February 21 last year

How much will Kim lose after Indian Wells... and how far behind her will Lindsay be if she wins.

Don't agree with you on that. Amélie is the best at the moment, but Kim really has the advantage if you look at the titles won (quality and quantity) over the last 52 weeks

Kim - 9
GS - Us Open (and SF, 4TH, 4TH)
Tier I - Miami
Tier I - Indian Wells
Tier I - Toronto
Tier II - Los Angeles
Tier II - Stanford
Tier II - Eastbourne
Tier II - Luxembourg
Tier III - Hasselt

Amélie - 6
GS - Aus Open (and SF, 3RD, QF)
CHA - Los Angeles
Tier I - Rome
Tier II - Antwerp
Tier II - Paris
Tier II - Philadelphia

considering Kim's gotten to more Grand Slam finals than Momo and won two YECs - all at a younger age than Momo, to boot - she definitely deserves to hold onto the #1 spot a bit.

Far as I'm concerned, if Kim has the points, Kim deserves the ranking - but the other stuff (how many YEC, how old at her first slam win) is irrelevant. If your criteria for "deserving" #1 is anything other than what they've done in the last year - like how many majors/Slams they hold, etc. - both Kim and Amelie drop down the list pretty quickly.

I don't know what makes me feel older: having said that so many times I feel like a broken record - or realizing I'm one of a very few here who know what a "broken record" really is

Is Amelie's little break before Doha enough? I hope so. I'd love to see her win Doha, and to see her drop to her knees realising she has won back the world number one title. That would certainly make up for that incident we no longer want to speak of.

Come on Amelie. Rest up, and storm to the Throne - in THUNDEROUS FASHION!!

Yeah, how do you describe a new era bore:
