Good to hear Kim is resting - but that's a certain goodbye to no.1 isn't it?

wise decision to listen to her body, the best of luck for Miami, Kimmie :bounce:

she has broken her leg, both her wrists, torn her ACL beyond oblivion, and has lost her vision, but she will play in Miami.

i can't understand Kim. when her ankle was injured, she took 2 weeks off then came back and lost in front of her home crowd. right now she decided not to defend her points because she want to rest?

Kim why didn't you just take a full rest before this? don't you really want to be #1? WTF? :fiery: :banghead:

As a non Belgian Kim fan, I can understand your point of view. ;)

I guess that her decision to play last week relied purely on the fact that it was Antwerp. If IW and Antwerp were reversed in the timeline of tournaments (ie IW in Feb and Antwerp in March) I bet you a gazillion quid she would have missed IW and played Antwerp. :p

She is out because she reinjured her ankle
From http://www.eurosport.com/tennis/wta-indian-wells/2006/sport_sto838739.shtml

World number one Kim Clijsters pulls out of Indian Wells due to a recurring ankle injury. The defending champion reinjured the right ankle that forced her out of the Australian Open in January.
“I am very disappointed to have to withdraw from Indian Wells,” said Clijsters. “I reaggravated the right ankle that I injured in Australia this past week, and now require some time off to get back to 100%. Indian Wells has always been one of my favorite tournaments, and I am very much looking forward to playing there next year.”

Top seeds at Indian Wells include former World No. 1 Lindsay Davenport,Justine Henin-Hardenne; and Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova.

Too bad Kim isn't playing; I was hoping to see her on TV.

BW, don't they mean 2004 Wimbledon champion? Venus is the current Wimbledon champion.

you need a "reason" to pull out, not just rest, so i'm sure kim just said this to make it a "valid" reason, this decision doesn't bother me as long as she wins a major this year...

That's a smart move by Kim. If she was lacking in any way with her health, it would be impossible for her to defend all of the points she acquired last spring anyway.... Hope she returns fully fit in Miami.

If she is withdrawing from the tournament more than two weeks in advance, it sounds rather serious..

Too bad Kim isn't playing; I was hoping to see her on TV.

Me too. But her health is more important, I guess we knew she wasn't at 100% in Antwerp and only played because it's Belgium's most important event.

Rest well and come back firing in Miami, Kim!

BW, don't they mean 2004 Wimbledon champion? Venus is the current Wimbledon champion.

Yes, but perhaps they didn't know Sharapova got to #1 last year and that's why they highlighted her Wimbledon win, but it still should've been "2004 Wimbledon champion".
