Congrats! Glad to know she's still around :)

Also she pushed Venus 6-3 2-6 6-0 at the Australian Open 01.

Wasn't that the match where she almost knocked Venus' head off after smacking a ball out of frustration? :tape:

I can't remember if that happened or not..

Yeah switz I think it was injury but she might have got married...on wtatour.com they now call her 'Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez' but maybe that's just her full name.

Maria José Martínez Sánchez is her full name ;)

Yeah, she almost hit Venus's head

Also, she had been playing shitty 2002 and 2003 seasons, and starting 2004, she decided to stop for a while. She's always been a little mental-case, but also she's got the quality to get to the top 100 or even higher, only if her forehand worked... :tape: (which seems to start running now)

Last year she decided to come back, she played two tournament without much success, but then she won the third she played at Vigo 10K (played on hardcourts) and has started to play competitively again. In not much more than three months, she went from being unranked to be in the top 380, which is quite a success. With just one more tournament in doubles, she almost finished top 100 in doubles.

Hope that her tennis career can last a bit more in the elite ;).
----
Some quick facts:

-She won the Orange Bowl 99 over Pitu Salerni 6-4 6-1.
-She was runner up at the Aus Open Jrs 00 and semifinalist at RG Jrs 00, where she won the doubles title with Anabel Medina.
-She's won four wta doubles titles with Anabel Medina (Acapulco, Porto, Bol and Basel 01)
-She's got wins over Schnyder, Schett, Testud, Medina, Jankovic, Kirilenko, Grande...

Only player (with MJ Fernandez) to win Orange Bowl U16 & U18 back-to-back.
Still being a junior player she played her first WTA Quarterfinal, qualified for Roland Garros MD and was close to enter the Top 100.

Sadly, retired at only 19
